Remembering Crazy Ray This Weekend

Ever since I could ever remember, Wilford Jones also known as "Crazy Ray", had graced the stands at the Cowboys games. The first time I remember seeing him, was the first time I ever saw the Cowboys and the Redskins playing each other at the Cotton Bowl (for those of you not old enough to remember or know, where the Cowboys first played).

Through the years I became accustomed to seeing him at just about every game, but sadly enough, Crazy Ray past away this year. I think that it would only be fitting that a moment of silence be held in Ray’s memory before the start of the game and that the game be played in his honor.  I will be making the same suggestion to folk on DC.com. To me, it is something so minimal, to someone that made the game so memorable to me and so many others.

God Bless Crazy Ray.

I totally agree with you. I’m not a longtime Cowboys fan like yourself, but I do appreciate the history and traditions of the team. Crazy Ray is an icon, and as such he deserves the recognition once a year for the lifetime of enthusiasm and support for the Cowboys.

  3. I saw him at the games my entire life and it’s still so strange for him not to be there. He is a part of Texas Stadium and he’s sorely missed by all.
I love your suggestion and hope it is realized.

I GREW UP IN DALLAS. MY PARENTS HAD A HAMBURGER PLACE AT FAIR PARK BACK WHEN IT USED TO BE OPEN IN THE SUMMER AND THE COWBOYS PLAYED AT THE COTTON BOWL. MY FATHER WAS FRIENDS WITH MANY PLAYERS FROM BACK IN THE DAY.. I REMEMBER THE FIRST TIME I SAW TOO TALL JONES STANDING NEXT TO MY DAD…IT WAS LIKE A DREAM..
AND CRAZY RAY.. WELL, HE USED TO PUT ME ON HIS SHOULDER AND SPIN ME AROUND EVERYTIIME I SAW HIM..I REMEMBER TO THIS DAY,WHAT I FELT WHEN HE WAS IN MY PRESENCE. PRIDE AND BELIEF IN SOMETHING..SOMETHING BIGGER THAN OURSELVES.. OUR DALLAS COWBOYS.. THAT MAN CARRIED THAT PRIDE WITH HIM EVERYWHERE HE WENT AND HE SPREAD IT AROUND TO ALL WHO WANTED TO RECEIVE IT….. THANK YOU CRAZY RAY FOR ALL THE MEMORIES, FOR SHOWING ME WHAT A TRUE FAN IS,, AND FOR HELPING ME BECOME ONE.
    R.I.P. MY OLD FRIEND.
