The Sunday Spot by Fredooch

Hey Cowboy fans, it’s me Fredooch bringing you your update for the week and my personal feelings when it comes to all things Dallas Cowboys. First of all let me say I couldn’t of be prouder to be on this staff than if I were a staff member on DallasCowboys.com. We have a great bunch of writers and staffers here and all I can say, and I can’t say it enough, thanks Kelly for making me part of this thing here on LoneStarStruck.com. Its both and honor and a pleasure.

Ok now onto the Dallas Cowboys Rumor mill:

*Rumors out of Miami and Detroit have all three franchises talking trade come draft day. Rumor out of Miami has it that Bill Parcells still thinks the world of OLB Bobby Carpenter (believe it or not) and that Carpenter will be shipped out to Miami come draft day for a 3rd rounder. Rumor out of Detroit has WR Roy Williams coming to Dallas for DT Marcus Spears and the 28th pick of the NFL Draft.

  • According to sources close to Dallas WR Terry Glenn, he will bypass having microfracture surgery on his injured knee to play one final year in the NFL. He hopes it’s with Dallas. If he is cut or released, he will retire.
  • Julius Jones, according to some sources wants to be a feature back in the NFL and has his eyes on either the Atlanta Falcons or Carolina Panthers.
  • The Dallas Cowboys are actively trying to lock-up RB Marion Barber III and DE Chris Canty to 5 year deals and both will be signed in the next couple of weeks. Expect Canty to sign a deal similar to the one Jay Ratliff signed during the season, maybe a little more expensive.
  • Jerry Jones is still EXTREMELY DISSAPOINTED about the loss to New York. Sources say that Jerry Jones wasn’t even able to watch the NFC Championship game this past week. EXPECT Jerry to sign a BIG-TIME free-agent this off-season on the defensive side of the ball. I say it’s going to be CB Marcus Trufant or CB Ashante Samuel. If it happens, remember where you heard it first. Everybody said that the Cowboys would never sign Deion Sanders because he was too expensive. Well guess what? Jerry got creative, which I believe he is the best in the business at, and signed Deion.

Now for my Dallas Cowboys ranting. I was a little disturbed last week by something DT Marcus Spears said after the Cowboys loss to the Giants in the post-game interview. I don’t know if any of you caught that interview but Spears basically said in a nut shell that some players on the Cowboys side didn’t give 100 %, including him, which is why they lost. Now, I know what you’re saying. He was just being hard on himself. NO! When Spears said this, he said it so nonchalantly. Like oh well, we lost, get over it!

The Giants wanted it more than we did. I don’t know if this attitude is the reason the Cowboys are actively “shopping” Spears but considering all things, I do hope we get rid of this guy if this is his way of thinking. It’s easy for me to sit here and criticize a guy but when your making more money than Police Officers and Fire Fighters make in 10 years, you bet your two cents you’re going to get criticized, especially by me.

If God had granted me the athletic ability of a Marcus Spears or a Roy Williams, yes our Roy Williams, and I was making millions of dollars a year to play a child’s game, then I would give everything I had on every play and leave everything on the field. If we lost, then I could go to sleep at night knowing fully well that I left everything on that field that Sunday afternoon. And when I retired, the only thing I would want to be remembered for by my peers is that every time they faced me, they feared me and knew they always got 200% from me.

I remembered I once was watching this NFL films program on Hall Of Fame lineman from either the Steelers or 49ers of the 70’s or 80’s I don’t recall and they asked him who the best player they ever faced across from them was. I remember this guy saying, and don’t quote me word for word here, “Oh man, that’s easy. It’s without a doubt Randy White. That guy was a Beast. He had this clock that would never stop ticking and whenever I faced him I was physically and emotionally drained. You always got 100 % from that guy. They called him the Manster. He literally was half man and half monster.” Of course Randy White was an All-Pro and Hall of Famer and a 1st Round Pick.

My point is that if everyone on this team gave everything they had two weeks ago, we would be talking Cowboys vs. Patriots Superbowl. But it wasn’t meant to be. I am not saying that Marcus Spears is a horrible player but he has not lived up to the billing of being a 1st round draft pick. Bobby Carpenter hasn’t either but at least Spears has been given the opportunity. So I will leave it at that Cowboy fans.  Well that’s all for now kiddies and remember, see you next Sunday. Same Cowboys time! Same Cowboys place! Same Cowboys channel!

  1. The TRUTH

Hmm…who exactly are you sources for this rumor mill junk you post!? Anybody can read a blog site & post rumors…good internet skills dope!!

  2. Fredooch

Thats the beauty of it TRUTH. Sources can be a variety of things. Some can be found through good internet skills and others by word of mouth. It’s not like I work for OK Magazine and am posting rumors about a Jessica/Romo break-up. If you want to give your two cents, your right, anyone can post junk. Just go to the DallasNews.com Cowboys blog. The writers there went over the NFC/AFC Championship games and that on a Dallas Cowboys blog. Those writers get paid and have no idea what to write about that they rant on things not even relating to the Cowboys on a Cowboys blog. This is a site for fans by fans. If you dont like it, then you got about a million other Cowboys blogs and websites to go complain about. And by the way, a writer never reveals his sources. Peace!

  3. Jeff Danes

I love your segments fredooch!Dont worry about the bashers. Hell! You write better stuff than those guys on the .com’s.

  4. JOHNNY

I HAD THE HONOR OF MEETING JERRY BEFORE THE NY GAME, LIKE HIM I WAS THINKING OF THE FUTURE AND ASKED HIM DIRECTLY WHAT THE PLANS WERE FOR THE OFF-SEASON THE 1 WORD HE SAID WAS ” Trufant” HE KNOWS WE NEED ANOTHER SHUT DOWN CB. WE WILL SEE A STAR ON HIM, IF NOT IT’S BECUASE OF SALARY CAP ISSUES.
    ON TO ROY WILLIAMS.
WE ALL PRAISED HIM WHEN HE FIRST CAME TO DALLAS, THE HARD HITS, BIG PLAYS BECUASE WHEN HE WAS DRAFTED HE DIDN’T HAVE TO PLAY PASS COVERAGE HE WAS MEANT TO PLAY THE LINE THANKS TO WOODSON, BUT SINCE WOODSONS RETIREMENT WILLIAMS HAS BEEN ASKED TO PLAY MORE PASS COVERAGE NOT HIS STRONG SUITE EVEN IN COLLEGE, SO WHY ARE WE SURPRISED THAT IT’S NOT HIS BEST IN THE PRO’S? I AGREE HE NEEDS TO WRAP UP ON TACKLES INSTEAD OF TRYING TO GO FOR THE “HIGH LIGHT REELS” WITH BIG HITS THEN AGAIN A FEW MORE PLAYERS ON THE TEAM SHOULD DO THE SAME THE SCORE BEFORE HALF TIME BY THE GIANTS COULD OF BEEN STOPPED IF THE DEFENSE WOULD OF TACKELED.

  5. The TRUTH

“Fredooch” you consider your-self a writer, LOL!!! First get sentence stucture & punctuation correct and wite a book, then your a writer. Your just some dude eatin’ doritoes and typing on a keyboard, PEACE!

  6. I’ll take Roy Williams for Marcus Spears anyday of the week, especially since we have Jason Hatcher behind him and he seemed to make more plays in his limited role than Spears did in his full-time roll

  7. DALCOWFAN

I’m with you TRUTH, but it is written on a 4th grade level so my son can understand it. I like DEREK S. idea too!!!

  8. Fredooch

Ok I will “wite” a book like you stated, and eat some “doritoes” instead of doritos. Thanks for the nice commentary. I will also keep writing at a 4rth grade level so all your sons and daughters can keep reading and stay entertained. God knows the public school system needs it. And in all fairness here,if you don’t like what I write then don’t read it. Simple enough isn’t it?

  9. Jamestown Plano

Fredooch don’t let those morons get to you. Thats some good stuff. I hope we get Samuel. He is a beast. It’s easy to attack people when your hiding behind a keyboard Truth. Your probably some 40 year old virgin who still lives with mommy at home. Isn’t it time for her sponge bath?

  10. Craig

I did catch that Marcus Spears interview in the post game show and Im with you on that, fredooch. It seemed odd the way Spears justified the loss and I too began to question his drive. Great article by the way. Take some advice fredooch, don’t let those two guys get to you. It’s plain to see that they have nothing better to do but attack you. Just ignore them because the more you respond to what they say, the more they are going to not stop. It’s sad that there are people out there with nothing better to do. Get a life TRUTH.

  11. Cowboy

For the most part, it is my understanding that articles appearing on this website are written by fans and not by professional writers, if this holds true, then why are we busting their balls? Not everyone majored in English, for that matter even graduated from college, nor have they written a book. The writer uses the word “rumor” numerous times which means “a piece of purportedly true information that circulates without substantiating evidence. The information content of rumors can range from simple gossip to advanced propaganda techniques.” Nowhere in the article does the writer state, “Bill Parcels said, or Matt Millen, President and CEO of the Detroit Lions was quoted as saying, blah, blah, blah.” Just leave them boys alone and let them sing their song…(quote Hank Williams, Jr.)
As for Randy White, he was a great player that left it on the field, but so did other players such as Charlie Waters, Cliff Harris, Too Tall Jones, Billy Jo Dupree, the list of caliber players the Cowboys have had throughout their history could go on forever. Today players want lucrative contracts and the big payoff but are not willing to lay it on the line anymore, evident by Patrick Crayton in the playoffs.

  12. I think what makes blogs great is that they are a viable alternative to mainstream media which usually relies on sensationalism to sell their stories or they take a little truth and wrap it inside a bunch of nonsense. As one of the original writers on this site I agree with Cowboy. Nobody on this site that I know of claims to be a journalist. We are Cowboys fans who enjoy sharing our opinions. Sometimes you may agree and sometimes you may disagree, but the beauty of blogging is the debate and conversation it stirs among other Cowboys fans. Lone Star Struck neither edits it’s writers or it’s commenters. A truly rare quality among any website or forum these days. Rather than spending time being critical of the bloggers writing skills, lets instead debate the topic or the message he delivers. GO COWBOYS!

  13. Tiffany

First let me respond to what really matters here, your article:
I am dissappointed that Spears would say this in the manner he did. I hate to think that any Dallas Cowboy didn’t “want” to win that game.
As for your Randy White comments, I am still flying high from meeting him and having a couple of minutes to talk to him yesterday. He’s just a good old boy that referred to himself as “no big deal” when my friend and I were giggly over him yesterday. He was a monster on the field. An absolute and complete monster. Yet a gentle giant off the field, as he still remains.
As for your bashing from TRUTH or anyone else that bashes you. May I share with you what I have learned:
This is an open and public site which leaves it open for any idiot who has had a bad day or who’s not getting any at home, or who’s momma neglected him, or whatever his problem is, to take his aggressions out on a perfect stranger. Its always disheartening for me to see one Cowboys Fan attack another. It’s unfortunate when a non-Cowboys fan comes to a Cowboys site to attack Cowboys fans. These are unhappy people that do not have the ability or the nerve to go out in real life and take their anger out on the people that have caused them pain so they sit behind a computer screen and attack innocent strangers. It’s rampid on the internet and those of us here at Lonestarstruck.com must rise above these kind of attacks. Most of all we must stand up for our peers and co-writers here ALWAYS.
I applaud anyone that writes at Lonestarstruck.com for their passion as a fan.
No one ever said any of us are professional writers. We’re fan bloggers. We aren’t being paid to do this and therefore that makes it even more special because we do it out of love for our team.
My suggestion is that we all remember why we’re here and don’t get caught up in someone else’s hatred that isn’t really even at Fredooch. God only knows what’s really eating at this guy and Fredooch is just a Cowboy loving fan and blogger that shouldn’t have his day or his passion ruined by having to defend his blog.
Say what you have to say and move on. This site is way above this kind of b.s.

  14. Shelby

I, for one, LOVE Fredooch Blogs!
While I respect any opinion, there is a way to say what’s on your mind. Bashing is completely unnecessary.
    Now – FOR MY OPINION:
If I wanted to read some professional that was above minor mistakes, I would go to another site. Those sites and writers are a dime-a-dozen. Unlike those writers, we are not here to get rich nor do we have ‘editors’ to make our words fancy.
What makes this site special is the bloggers do it for the love of the Team & their Fellow Fan. It is not about money or to meeting a deadline – but because we WANT TO and ENJOY IT.
    FREDOOCH,
    Blog on, my friend!!
I’m a big fan of your blogs!

  15. David Brown

Hey Fred, another good article! I do want to also thank Kelly for this great website. You have great graphics for one, but the site is awesome. I love that there is a place to go to voice your opinion on all things Cowboys, but let’s get to the real reason I’m responding to this article. For the past week I have heard Marcus Spears name being thrown around in trade rumors. People are questioning his play and lack of commitment. Just because he mentioned that some of the team did not give 100% including him does not mean he is a BAD player! I have heard many different players and coaches say a lot of things after a big loss. It was a heat of the moment conversation with him and the media. Do you really KNOW what the D-line does in the 3-4 defenses? Like taking on the line of attack (gap assignments) so the Linebackers can make the tackles and pressure the QB. The Ends are there to STOP the run first, pressure second. Not a glorified position on the defense, but did Marcus Spears do his job? Well let’s see the stats. http://www.nfl.com/teams/statistics?team=DAL
If you look player by player and look at there season stats to me it looks like Marcus Spears held his own when it can to DE numbers. As you can see the DE had smaller numbers to free up the LBs which had larger numbers in SACKS and TACKLES. Let’s lay off Marcus Spears and give the guys another year to develop. I mean the guy is only going into his 4th year here. The Cowboys are the 3rd youngest team in the League. Look for bigger and better things from this front seven next season.

  16. Tiffany

Nice comments David. I appreciate the input and the information provided.

  17. Fredooch

Whats up Dave!! Anyways, I will tend to disagree with you. When you compare Spears stats with other 3-4 DE’s in the league, he doesn’t measure up Dave. The guy is a 1st Rounder Dave. Jay Ratliff had almost the exact same stats as Spears did this year and thats coming from our Nose Tackle. Your NT is the run stuffer and gap filler. As a 1st round pick, Spears shouldn’t need 4 years to develop. Guys you draft in the 3rd to 7th round maybe need 4 years to develop but teams that choose players in the 1st round don’t expect players to develop 4-5 years down the road. Thats not the kind of investment a team makes in a 1st rounder. Most 1st round picks sign 5 year deals with a team. So what your telling me Dave is that you would pay a guy you draft in the 1st round 30 million dollars only to see if this guy develops in 4 years? I dont know about you but if Dallas loved Spear’s so much and saw the same potential you see in him then why are they actively shopping the guy? Answer me that Dave.

  18. David Brown

Fredooch! O.k. First of all Marcus Spears is not a BUST! Bobby Carpenter I can understand playing Special Teams, but Spears NO. The guy is a STARTER, yeah a STARTER on the defense. If he did such a bad job why not have Jason Hatcher or Stephen Bowen starting at DE? Yeah Jay Ratliff had the same numbers, but back to football 101. All 3 DL have the same responsibilities. They both have 2 gaps to fill. And I quote from football 101, “3-4 DEs tend to weigh around 290-310, and many are former 4-3 DT/DE “tweeners”. They must be able to play the run well. The 3-4 DE is responsible for the B and C gaps in the running game and lines up in the 5-technique position, so he is head-up on the OT. It’s tough for a 3-4 DE to pick up as many sacks as a 4-3 DE, because a 3-4 DE doesn’t have the freedom to go willy nilly upfield. He has to protect the LBs in order for the 3-4 to work.” So what exactly is it that Spears is doing wrong out there? REALLY!! And who are the sources of the trade rumors? Are the credible? Laters buddie!!

  19. Tiffany

see look at David and Fredooch. They can debate in a friendly manner. I am so proud!!

  20. Fredooch

No Dave, the only reason you like Spears so much is because of his LSU ties. Spears is a BUST, plain and simple. Your NT and DE in a 3-4 defense do not have the same responsibilities. If Mr. Spear’s abilities were in the 1st round draft pick level he would of have 70 tackles this year and around 10 sacks. At least Carpenter doesnt play like you stated but at least Carpenter showed something in last year’s playoff loss to Seattle. If you remember that game, Carpenter started for one of our injured OLB’s and he was all over the field that day. And yes, I do believe Carpenter is a 1st round bust as well. A 1st round draft pick shouldnt just be a special teams contributor. Spears hasn’t lived up to his billing as a 1st round pick, plain and simple and like I told you, if Dallas had this monster as a DE then why are they shopping him around so much? You still havent answered me that. And as far as sources go, you’d be surprised who the main source is, it’s an old friend dave. Remember your Texas Rangers handbook?

  21. Raina

Ok It is good to see people debate with class. This person “truth” has me afraid to submit a article now lol. I love lonestar because we don’t have to be perfect like writers that get paid. We are FANS. We don’t claim to professional writers but we do try our best to give fans interesting and up to date information.

  23. David Brown

Fred! I knew you would bring up the LSU ties thing. You know we could have a pissing contest over this all week. Apparently you do not know what the DE in the 3-4 does. I spelled it out for you twice already. The numbers that you are throwing up are for OLB in this defense. Oh well you have your thoughts and I have mine. And again do you REALLY know that they are SHOPPING him? A lot is thrown around after a season is over. Hey if he does leave. Well let the next guy step up, but as long as he has a STAR on his helmet I’m not going to BASH him as a player. Expessly when in my mind he has played pretty darn good. STARTER Fred, must have been doing something right Huh!!
