Joe D Interviews Thomas “Hollywood” Henderson

Today I thought I would surprise all of you with a special phone interview I conducted with former Dallas Cowboy, Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson.

Hollywood Henderson was nice enough to grant my request for an interview last week and on Wednesday we were finally able to get together and have a nice chat about a wide variety of topics including; His early years, his service to his community, his work with children, the state of today’s game, and of course the 2007 Cowboys.

Hollywood Henderson is a generous man who has led a remarkable life and it is so interesting to see how this inspiring figure evolves from a troubled young man into a role model for people of all ages. It was a pleasure hearing him tell his uplifting story and I would recommend that each of you by a copy of his newest book entitled, "In Control, The Rebirth of an NFL Legend". The book is available at and is the much anticipated follow-up to his first book "Out of Control: Confessions of an NFL Casualty". An autographed copy is also available here.

You can also visit Hollywood Henderson at his website and see all the wonderful things he is currently working on.

The interview is about 14 minutes long, and I included a photo collage which I think compliments the audio very well.

This is only the first of a series of interviews I will be conducting with several notable players and coaches as The Cowboys Nation and Lone Star Struck help to make the offseason more enjoyable for Cowboys fans.

A text transcript of the video is in development and as soon as we get it back from production, you can view the full version of it at

Enjoy the interview!

Great interview Joe. Brings back some great memories from when I was a kid and watched the Doomsday Defense tear up the opposition.
I am also glad to hear that Hollywood agrees with me about the Giants. LOL.

  3. Tiffany
    Tiffany says:

    This was incredible.
He’s a good guy, he has given back so much. Awesome times were just remembered from childhood listening to him and thinking of that team he played on.
Harvey Martin was a friend of mine and he loved Hollywood so much it made him cry. I got to meet him twice and he is the gentleman that many of these old players are not.
Good guys from an awesome era.
Joe it was so great to hear your voice. I know everyone is going to love that aspect of this as well. I bet many are surprised not to hear a Texas twang! Love those New York Cowboys fans baby! Especially you.
    A million kudos to Joe!
    Well well done.

  4. Cowboy
    Cowboy says:

Proclaiming himself as “Hollywood,” the flamboyant Thomas Henderson could have gone down in NFL history as one of the greatest linebackers to have ever played the game, however because of his addiction and use of cocaine on and off the field (he actually injected himself on the sidelines while playing in the Super Bowl) he will be remembered, if anyone does, as just a player who once played for the Dallas Cowboys. Henderson was a gifted athletic, but became a disruptive force on the team, this was probably due to his use drugs, plus having had numerous run-ins with Coach Tom Landry didn’t help his cause either; finally in 1979 right before the Thanksgiving Day game Coach Landry had had enough of Henderson and fired him. In 1980 he went on to play for the Houston Oilers and the San Francisco 49ers, but by this time Henderson was too strung out on drugs to even be half the player he once was.

  5. Joe D - The Cowboys Nation
Joe D - The Cowboys Nation says:

Cowboy you could have read all of that in his first book in which he confesses and then turned his life around. He is now a pillar in his own community and has helped thousands of children to achieve their goals and dreams while teaching them to live drug free lives. For some reason God always chooses the least likely people to become the shining examples of the power of faith and the ability of the human spirit.
