Lets Count Our Blessings – All Three Of Them

1224cowivr.jpegAfter reading all the blogs around the web, the newspaper articles and watching sports news shows, all I have heard is what the Dallas Cowboys are missing.  I know that is important. Believe me, I have thought about that also, but friends, what about the great things the Cowboys do have!
The Dallas Cowboys have the most talented running backs in the NFL! Marion Barber, goes with out saying, is one of the best (and one of the strongest) backs  when you get him in short yardage situations or in the red zone. He had 885 yards during the 2008 season with 238 carries and 7 touchdowns.
Felix Jones, ok everyone knows I am his #1 fan, but that aside, he showed what he could do in the short time he did play last year.  He is so exciting to watch because you never know when he is going to break a long one.  Felix only played 5 games because of injury, but he had a amazing 266 yards with only 30 carries, which is a average of 8.9 every time he touched the ball.
Then we have Tashard Choice… Wow, look at what he did when he filled in last season! He played in 10 games and had a average of 5.1 yards a carry.
I can’t wait to see how the coaches decide to play them.
We know they will all step on the field in some type of roles, because their is no way those boys from Georgia, Oklahoma and Minnesota will stay on the sidelines.
How would you like to see  the coaches play all this talent?
Come on LSS readers, this is your chance to be a coach… Tell us, how you would play these three talented running backs…   Would you use any of them on special teams?
I am not sure about their contracts, but this could be the only season we can have all three, so I hope we take full advantage of it.

great job raina! i would personally use choice as my starter, felix as my change of pace and kick returner and barber on every third series, third down, goalline and closer. keep em fresh.

    Nice article Raina.
The question last year was whether or not Barber could carry the load for an entire season considering his punishing style. I’m still a huge supporter of Barber as the starter even though last season didn’t help his cause for those riding the fence.
Felix is a phenom and a talent that you cannot ignore. He’s essential on kick returns and will make a strong case in camp to be the starting RB. Felix gets around the edge and he is GONE! Incredible burst and a great receiving back.
I like Choice a ton. His running style, in my opinion, is the most like Emmitt Smith’s. He has incredible vision and seems always know where he is on the field and where he needs to get for the first. I can’t say enough about this kid.
Bottom line. Barber and Jones as a two-headed running attack. Jones as the KR. Choice as a situational back and third down option. Barber has to be your goal line guy and finisher in the 4th.

As much as I like all of our runningbacks… It goes to show you how good our offensive line actually is, atleast in run blocking…

Exactly my feelings Raina! Thanks for posting such a positive piece.
I think we need to make the most of these 3 talented backs. Use them all! If Jason can gather a game plan to maximize their production our running game will be unstoppable, no doubt about it.
I like Nates plan actually, and it uses all three in their dominate roles.
P.S. Remember ’07 when Barber was the closer, thats when we fell in love with him!

  5. James
    James says:

I would use them exactly how NY used Earth Wind and Fire.
Very situational we could be near impossible to stop if the coaching staff uses these 3 the right way.The sky is the limit

    Joe D. says:

Jones may have spent a total of 22 months in Arkansas, but he spent 22 years in Oklahoma and that’s where he still calls home.
Raina is from Oklahoma and she tells it like it is!!!
