Romo speaks at Today's OTA

ESPN.com was able to get Tony Romo to speak for the first time today since the season ending loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. He was asked about his current wide receivers and the release of Terrell Owens.

About the release of TO Romo said,

“That’s not up to any of us players to decide. That’s why we’re players. The organization and management decides those things. We’re all at risk every offseason, depending upon everything. You always want to go out there and try to have all the guys you play with every year. That just doesn’t happen. We have to go with the guys we have here now, go forward and keep improving.”

Asked whether he has contacted TO since his release, Romo said he wanted to keep that private, but did say.

“You miss seeing the guy every day.”

Also asked if thought his current receivers could make up for TO’s production.

“It’s going to figure itself out. Either you’re going to be able to or not. He’s a great player and it’s always difficult to replace someone who’s had the success and been that dominant player he’s been over the years. But guys have to step up and pick up the slack. Guys are working hard, I know that. Whether they’re going to do it, we’re going to find out this year. But I definitely have confidence in the young guys to step up and perform.”

One reporter asked Romo if things were more relaxed without TO.

“No. It’s the National Football League,” Romo said with a hint of frustration. “If you’re relaxed, then you’re probably at the end of your career and you don’t care either way. So relaxed is a bad word. If you’re not hungry, then you’re in the wrong place to make a living and to play and compete.”

ESPN.com also reported that Sam Hurd was the best receiver on the field Tuesday as he made some great catches. Roy Williams also made some nice catches as defenders were hanging all over him

On the NFLN tonight it was discussed about whether as a teammate of Tony Romo’s would it bother you if Romo attempted to qualify for the US Open. Warren Sapp was totaly against Romo playing golf because he wants his QB to be just a QB all the time. Darren Horton on the other hand said he would have no problem with Romo playing golf because everyone needs their own time especially in the off-season.

Wow, they really flooded him with T.O. questions. Why can’t they ask him about things Cowboy fans really care about?

As for the U.S. Open, it’s always something with Romo. Vacationing in Mexico the day befoe the biggest game of the season, partying it up with the hollywood elite, and now this. We gave him one of the biggest contracts in the NFL and I never read anything about how he’s working hard to improve his game. Considering the commitment we made in him, shouldn’t he make a commitment to us aside from just showing up for team meetings and gamedays?

Sorry, but I’m just tired of always hearing everything but what I want to hear from Romo every off season. And when the season ends badly, I better not hear him say “we gave it our best, all we can do now is try again next season”.

Memo to Romo: It’s next season!

  2. Maybe all you hear about Romo and golf is because it’s all they report. Just because they don’t report anything about Romo working on his game doesn’t mean it’s not happening. Remember after the season ended there was news floating around that Romo and RW was playing catch together? That coverage lasted what, 4 seconds? No one wants to hear anything good about a Cowboy, let us not forget how ESPN and seemingly every other news outlet treats the Cowboys!

  3. WELL WELL QUESTIONS ABOUT T.O MAN WE WERE STUPID TO GIVE HIM UP THERE ALWAYS HAS TO BE A SCAPEGOAT AND T.O WAS THE MAN. IVE BEEN A COWBOYS FAN SINCE THE 60S AND HAVE BEEN THREW IT ALL WHAT WE NEED TO CONSIDER IS HOW ARE YOUNG RECIEVERS WILL STEP UP THERE GAME AND THE DEFENSE AFTER GETTING ARE ASS HANDED TO US BY PHILLY. THERE ARE ALOT OF QUESTIONS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL COME ON KEITH BROOKINGS INSTEAD OF RAY YEA THAT MAKES SINCE AND ROY WILLIAMS A NUMBER ONE YOUVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME. WE NEEDED TO KEEP T.O I DONT GIVE A SHIT HOW MUCH HE WANTED THE BALL THE MAN PRODUCED. AND ROMO HE IS THE MAN A FREE AGENT TO THE LEADER OF THE TEAM GIVE HIM SOME TIME HE WILL WIN THE SUPER BOWL.

  4. Just because you type in “Caps Lock” doesn’t make you right lol =P

wow max. i couldnt disagree with you any more. sheesh.

Joe youre an idiot if you think Romo playing Golf makes him “not committed” to the team. You don’t think NFL players don’t play golf almost everyday when they can. NFL players have to have a life just like you and I. They are football players not scientist, coming up with a cure for cancer. If they don’t make it to the playoffs again, it wasn’t because he’s someones boyfriend or that he spends time relaxing when he can.

I have a feeling this is Romo’s last chance in ’09. He has to take control and lead this team. No more excuses especially now that what’s his name is gone. Last year can not be blamed on him alone. He was injured and when he came back he still was not right. Then he hurt his back in the Giants game. Not to mention that WR concern. I agree with Kelly. Romo was all about football at one point. He also seemed to always have fun when playing. He is different now. Pressue?, Hollywood scene? Only Romo knows. He has to lead and do better this season. We all know he can. Just look at ’07 when he was healthy. And I do not blame him for the playoff loss to the Giants. I blame that on 12 stupid penalties and…Hmmmm Crayton!!! Go Boys!!! Romomania!!!

Since when cant a player in his off time do whatever he wants? I could see if he took up speed boat racing or rugby..but its Golf…freaking golf people. GOLF!!!

  9. Riggs

Its how it always been with the Cowboys, good news is ignored and bad news gets publicized..why? B/c that sells, who wants to hear good things these days. Sites like ESPN and FanNation.com know how to get ratings, and its by degrading the Cowboys at every shot.

all i can say is phuck espn thoes rude mean jerks
    GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO COWBOYS

  11. Kelly Horn

First off Mike, Joe is not an idiot. And playing golf to relax is one thing, but playing for competition and to ‘qualify’ is another.

I remember when all Romo would do was eat, sleep, breath football. I love him, dont get me wrong. I just hope he’s taking this serious. He’s not going to get many more chances like this.

The reality is – all we know is what is reported. We will know who means business when they take the field.

With that said… GO ROMO! GO COWBOYS!
