ESPN.com was able to get Tony Romo to speak for the first time today since the season ending loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. He was asked about his current wide receivers and the release of Terrell Owens.
About the release of TO Romo said,
“That’s not up to any of us players to decide. That’s why we’re players. The organization and management decides those things. We’re all at risk every offseason, depending upon everything. You always want to go out there and try to have all the guys you play with every year. That just doesn’t happen. We have to go with the guys we have here now, go forward and keep improving.”
Asked whether he has contacted TO since his release, Romo said he wanted to keep that private, but did say.
“You miss seeing the guy every day.”
Also asked if thought his current receivers could make up for TO’s production.
“It’s going to figure itself out. Either you’re going to be able to or not. He’s a great player and it’s always difficult to replace someone who’s had the success and been that dominant player he’s been over the years. But guys have to step up and pick up the slack. Guys are working hard, I know that. Whether they’re going to do it, we’re going to find out this year. But I definitely have confidence in the young guys to step up and perform.”
One reporter asked Romo if things were more relaxed without TO.
“No. It’s the National Football League,” Romo said with a hint of frustration. “If you’re relaxed, then you’re probably at the end of your career and you don’t care either way. So relaxed is a bad word. If you’re not hungry, then you’re in the wrong place to make a living and to play and compete.”
ESPN.com also reported that Sam Hurd was the best receiver on the field Tuesday as he made some great catches. Roy Williams also made some nice catches as defenders were hanging all over him
On the NFLN tonight it was discussed about whether as a teammate of Tony Romo’s would it bother you if Romo attempted to qualify for the US Open. Warren Sapp was totaly against Romo playing golf because he wants his QB to be just a QB all the time. Darren Horton on the other hand said he would have no problem with Romo playing golf because everyone needs their own time especially in the off-season.
