2010 Draft Schedule Changed

It has been reported on ProFootballTalk.com that the 2010 NFL Draft will go Prime-time. I’m not sure that I like this idea. Maybe it’s because I don’t like change that much and too much has changed in the NFL since I became a fan.

The NFL Draft will be spread out over three days. The first round will start on Thursday night, April 22 at 7:30pm est. Rounds two and three will be on Friday night, April 23 at 6:30pm est. Then the draft will finish up on Saturday, April 24 starting at 10:00am est.

“We continue to look for ways to make the draft more accessible to more fans,” said Commissioner Roger Goodell.  “Moving the first round to prime time on Thursday night will make the first round of the draft available to fans on what is typically the most-watched night of television.”

Sounds like it’s not about making the draft more accessible to fans, but getting better ratings on the most watched night of television. But that is just my opinion of course.

The Cowboys Top 50 players

DallasCowboys.com has completed their rankings of the Top 50 players of all time. It all came down to Emmitt Smith or Roger Staubach. Who would get the top spot? Emmitt Smith who was key to the three Super Bowl Championships in the 90′s, a warrior for the team from 1990 to 2002, a class act through and through? Or Roger Staubach who was the face of the team in the 70′s, leading them to four Super Bowls and two wins? Well, it was Staubach who was selected the top player in Cowboys history. I don’t have an issue with that selection. Staubach changed the way the QB position was played and was key to the Cowboys success in his short 10 year career. Staubach will officially be listed in the site tomorrow. Unless of course DallasCowboys.com throws a curve at all us fans and makes Staubach and Tom Landry co-winners of the top spot which would be fitting. If that does happen then you heard it here first.

My two issues with the Top 50 are that Terrell Owens and La’Roi Glover were ranked. I would have left them off the list and added Dennis Thurman who played with the Cowboys from 1978-85 and recorded 36 INT’s and 4 TDs. I also would have added Robert Newhouse who played for the Cowboys from 1972-83 and rushed for 4,784 yards and scored 31 TDs. Let’s not forget his famous TD pass to Golden Richards in Super Bowl XII.

The list can be seen below.

I watched the entire draft this year, as we had a draft chat during the entirety. Three days might be better, that was exhausting. But if anything it should be a weekend thing. Fri, Sat, Sun. Oh well. Goodell just loves making these decisions doesn’t he?

As for the top 50, what a great problem to have huh? – Having so many greats you cant fit them on the list. I agree about your suggestion though, something didn’t seem right. But nevertheless, Staubach is the man! GO COWBOYS!

I don’t like Goddell, too many changes. I agree with Kelly, Fri. Sat. Sun. sounds much better. Oh well, what can we do.

Emmitt should top the list no question. He is one of the toughest players to ever play the gain. 95% of football players will never amount to what he did.

This is just to get the NFL ratings down. as everyone know the NFL Pro Bowl beat the NBA All-Star game this year in ratings by millions and now ESPN is trying to get the first day of the NFL Draft to thursday so the NFL Draft doesn’t beat out a Game in the NBA Finals for ratings like it did this year.
