Wide receiver Sam Hurd has probably never been in the spotlight very much, and his injury that caused him to miss the entire season in ’08 didn’t help matters much, but nothing can stop him from simply being awesome. Hurd and a few of his teammates are in Brownsville, TX today for a youth football camp. While there Hurd participated in a Q & A session with the local newspaper.
Hurd has always been a team player on and off the field. He knows his role and strives to do his best when he’s called upon to play.
Q: Do you see your role expanding on the team this season?
A: I’m going to work as hard as I can and come out there and give everything I’ve got. Hopefully, I’ll move up in my role. My main goal is to become a starter, but if I don’t, I’ll play my role and do whatever I have to do on special teams to help us win. It’s all about making the team better. As long as we get better as a unit, that’s the most important thing.
Now, that’s the kind of attitude a winning team needs from all of it’s players.
Of, course the interview had to include a question about Terrell Owens departure. This had to be the best answer from any player or member of the Cowboys organization to date.
Q: Will the Cowboys miss Terrell Owens?
A: Yes, the team will miss him, but it’s not as if we need him to make our offense or our team go. We will miss him because he is our friend, and he has done so much for the team. It’s hard to replace his stats and the things that he’s done because he’s an amazing player and an amazing human being. Besides all the media attention that he got and all the things that were said, he’s a great human being, and he was a brother to me and the rest of the receiver corps. He helped train us mentally about all the things that will happen in life, so you’re going to miss someone like that.
Hurd has always had a way with words.
Let’s wish Sam Hurd a healthy and productive season. He has some pretty amazing moves and hopefully he can get back into the groove of things. While Roy Williams and Miles Austin are getting more attention from the media, Sam Hurd just might surprise everyone!
