Cowboys Injury Update after Week 1

The Cowboys offense showed off some big plays in Sundays Week 1 win over Tampa Bay. They escaped the heat and humidity of Florida and they also seemed to have escaped some injuries to key players on offense and defense.

Tony Romo

Tony Romo suffered a right ankle injury late in the third quarter Sunday. He could be seen limping from time to time in the fourth quarter. MRI results today showed no structural damage to the ankle. Romo should be fine for next Sunday’s division match-up against the Giants.

Felix Jones

Felix Jones only had six carries against Tampa Bay due to a thigh bruise he suffered in the first half. Jones was not limping today, but it’s unknown whether he will practice on Wednesday. Miles Austin replaced Jones on Kickoff returns and Tashard Choice played on some 3rd downs. Let’s all hope he is ready for next weeks game.

“He didn’t play quite as much as we thought he was going to,” Phillips said of Jones, who didn’t appear to be limping Monday. “I believe (Marion) Barber had 30 plays, Felix had 15 and Choice had seven. That’s about how it went.”

Gerald Sensabaugh

Gerald Sensabaugh suffered a rib injury in the 3rd quarter with a hit to Bucs receiver Mark Clayton. X-rays on Sensabaugh’s ribs were negative. He said he is feeling fine today and will be ready to go.

“I just had some sharp pain,” Sensabaugh said. “Initially the breath was knocked out of me; I had some sharp pain in my back. I knew it wasn’t that serious. That’s why I tried to get up.”

DeMarcus Ware

DeMarcus Ware left the game in the first quarter after a hit to the head. He returned a few plays later, but said that it took awhile to get his straight after returning. He said he is feeling fine and will be ready to go against the Giants.

Wade Phillips takes the blame

The Bucs gained 176 yards rushing on the Dallas defense on Sunday. That won’t get it done in the tough NFC East with backs like Brian Westbrook, Clinton Portis and Brandon Jacobs. Wade Phillips who now runs the defense said they were trying many different things in the first half to try and confuse the Bucs offensive line. Phillips decided to go back to basics in the second half where they played better.

“We wanted to be aggressive and I thought we’d make a play in the backfield, which we almost did a couple of times,” Phillips said. “But, the longer runs they hit on us were we just didn’t hit the right gaps and just basically gave it to them… I blame it on myself first. We didn’t do it enough in the run game practices I think.”
