Only one game into the NFL season, and already I must refer to Sunday’s game against the Giants as a must-win game. That’s not to say that all will be lost should the Cowboys fail to deliver, but only that this could be a signature moment that could define the rest of the season. A moment to send a clear and convincing message to the rest of the NFC East, that the Cowboys are a force to be reckoned with.
There has been a big buildup to tonight’s game, and NBC was smart to key in on this early season matchup in their Sunday Night Football schedule. This game will have major significance for the team lucky enough to come out on top. If the Cowboys want to make a statement, there’s no better time to do it than against your chief division rival and on the same day you christen your new stadium.
Luckily, the Cowboys head into this game nearly 100% healthy and with no significant injuries, unlike the Giants who are already hobbled with injuries to several key players, chief among them off season acquisition and former Cowboy, Chris Canty who will not play.
Tony Romo has looked sharp so far, but he has failed many times before in a big spot.
Memo to Tony Romo: It’s time for you to step up and win a big game. Tonight’s game has all the earmarks of a big game. You will be in the national spotlight and all eyes will be watching your every move. If you were going to choose a moment to silence your critics and shine, now is the time to do it.
It’s going to be a great battle, and I can hardly wait to tune in and take in all the drama.
