Dallas Signs New Kicker, Plus Injury News

It is being reported by ESPN that the Cowboys have signed Shaun Suisham to be their new kicker. Suisham kicked in six games for the Cowboys in 2005-06. His most recent kicking job was with the Redskins this season. With the Redskins Suisham was 18 out of 21 on field goals, but his three misses were in games the Redskins could have won. One was against the Saints a few weeks back which caused his release and two were against the Cowboys when Dallas pulled off the victory with a last minute touchdown and won 7-6.

Now Suisham gets to return to FedEx field this Sunday night to go against the Redskins. It is not yet known what will happen to Nick Folk. I’ve heard reports that the Cowboys may put Folk on IR because of his off-season hip surgery. The Cowboys may know something that others do not concerning the hip and would rather not release him knowing how automatic he once was at still a very young age. In recent weeks the Cowboys have replaced holder Matt McBriar for Tony Romo in hope that it would help. In the Saints game we all must have felt a little better when Folk kicked a 44 yard field goal in the second quarter. But then in the fourth quarter Folk missed a 24 yard field goal that would have sealed the game.

Injury Update

Looks like offensive tackle Marc Colombo could be making his return this season. If the Cowboys earn a spot in the playoffs Colombo could make it make back for a Wildcard game.

Colombo is trying to come back from a fractured fibula and torn ligaments in his left ankle suffered against the Packers. Colombo also said that it wouldn’t be pain that stops him from returning, but it would be strength. He has been working out and rehabbing since his surgery. If he regains his strength it looks like he will try to play again. If Colombo can’t come back, then Doug Free will continue to be the starter. Free has done a very nice job as the starter the last five games.

  1. Insane! I mean they needed to do something… but I’m going to try and think positive. 2nd times a charm?

thats the dumbest thing dallas could ever do !!!!!!!! and u wonder why we suck!!! bad moves look at roy williams “THUMP” vanderwreck “THUMP” julius no jones “THUMP” theres many more we better get past the wild card if we do make it there!!!!! and besides so if nick folk can’t kick a rock on a hill of gravel doesnt mean we give up on him that fast!!!!!!

I like Folk and did not want the team to give up on him, but what choice did they have??? He was hurting the team. And Phillips said today that they have tried everything to get him out of his slump in the past weeks. The Boys are fighting for a playoff spot. They needed to make a move.

true true but Suisham out of all undrafted talent u pick a kicker that played for a team that we going against this sunday are u serious i love my boys but we been doing some crackhead moves lately !!!!!!!who knows he might do the redskins a favor u never know!!!! it has happened before !!!!

Suisham was 18/21 this season. What kicker should they have signed? Did you see Folks kicks during pregame warmups Saturday night? They weren’t even close. Why does it matter who he played for before signing with the Boys?

          • C-Moore

Exactly. They’ll probably dump him at the end of the year anyway.

should hAve signed jason elam or a veteran kicker

      • Rob V.

Come on. Elam was only 12 of 19 this year on FGs. Suisham is a veteran kicker

ummmmm, hello, did y’all read the article? Nick may be put in IR for a hip surgery he had. so maybe, all those missed FG attempts had something to do with his hip. I think J.Jones made a HUUUUGGGEEE mistake by signing suisham. He isn’t that much better than Folk. At least, Folks troubles may be because of the whole hip thing, but what is suisham excuse? I hope he doesn’t screw up on Sunday?

What’s done is done. Negativity won’t help anything. All we can do is hope for the best!

So many people are saying that they are fed up with Folk and that the Cowboys should not have signed Suisham, but no one is saying what the Cowboys should have done. It’s the end of the season. There are no kickers out there. They had no choice! Phillips said they have tried everything with Folk this season to correct it. They are in a playoff fight and need someone with confidence. Suisham is 18/21 this season. Yes, I know his three misses were big misses, but he is still playing much better than Folk. Even Folk himself said he understood why he was released. Maybe it is his hip, but maybe he going down the same road as Vanderjagt a few years ago.
I read the story about Folk going on IR, but it couldn’t happen because he was never listed on the injury report all season. The NFL would have investigated it. Suisham is the Cowboys kicker. Can we see how he does before he is judged? He did pretty well the last time he was with the Cowboys.

Most fans are great at pointing out problems and nit picking, but so few actually offer any viable solution or alternative.

i think the cowboys need to worry more about scoring touchdowns in the red zone send witten on some redzone td routes and stop hoping to get a fg i know since columbo got hurt witten has to block more but man they be at the 4 and 6 yard line and got barber in the back field they should be scoring touchdowns
