Folk Gets the Boot and Suisham Gets the Nod

Shaun SuishamAs reported by several local sources, Nick Folk has been cut by the Dallas Cowboys. Shaun Suisham has been signed. You might remember him from a few years back. Redskins recently cut Suisham after he missed a 23-yarder.

Its good the Cowboys made a move, I just wish there were more options out there. Let’s hope Suisham makes the most of it his second time around.

Many fans were calling for Folk’s head after his miss last Saturday night after he missed a routine 24 yard field goal. Folk has made only 18 out of 28 field goals this season.

Suisham had made 18 of 21 FG attempts before being cut by Washington two weeks ago.

Ironically, Suisham will get to return to FedEx Field Sunday when the Cowboys travel to Washington.

Our own Joe D. predicted there would be open tryouts on Monday, great call!

Hat tip to TD and Nate the Cowboy Ninja for promptly shooting me the news.

Maybe a pissed off Suisham will pay off against the Redskins. But seriously, was this the best we could do?

He was probably the best out there at this time of the season. I’m not planning on many FGs from him, just extra points.

It may come back to bite us for releasing him. We all know how good he was not long ago. Someone will pick him up.

Hes done as a Cowboy and Im perfectly happy with it. He did well but its time to move on, to close to the end of the season for him to STILL be missing those goal posts.

    GO COWBOYS!

Hey!!! Folk didn’t miss the goal posts. He hit it dead on. LOL

I can’t help but wonder if the hip surgery Nick Folk had during the off-season had something to do with his inability to kick as well as he used to. I was sad to see him go but we needed to do what was best for the team.

    • I agree with Michelle G. about the hip surgery Nick Folk had making him kick poorly this season. :( I believe that it definitely had something to do with it! How can you go from being such an A+ kicker last season, and then come back this season to kick so poorly? It’s the hip surgery, but they did need to cut Nick F. for sure! If he would have stayed, then we would have surely lost one of the two next games, due to him missing a crucial field goal at the last minute of the game! So hopefully Suisham can win!!! :)

Hope everyone is happy with this change. I’m not. We cut Suisam for a reason…then again my favorite kicker was cut before..what I would give to have the young Billy the Kid Cundiff back…the young one..not the one we cut…

    • Rob V.

Ok, let’s be clear about Suisham’s first stop with Dallas back in ’05. He was signed by Parcells after Jose Cortez was cut. He was resigned at the start of ’06 because newly signed Vanderjagt was still rehabbing his off season injury. When Vanderjagt came back we released Suisham. Not knowing how bad Vanderjagt would be in ’06 of course. When Parcells finally gave up on Vanderjagt we then signed Gramatica to finish the season because Suisham was not available. If you remember Romo’s botched hold in the playoff game vs Seattle then you must remember that it was Gramatica who was the kicker.
So for everyone knocking Suisham and saying he wasn’t that great with the Cowboys or there was a reason we released him. Let’s do a little homework and not judge this guy.

I still don’t think it was the best choice….options were limited though. I’d still rather have young Billy the Kid.

LOl! I was just kidding during the Chat on Saturday! We really signed him? Too funny.

Well we go him…I think we’ll be ok. I wanted Folk gone so badly but now I feel like a idiot. Oh well, lets welcome our returning kicker.

I’m glad Folk was cut, it didn’t take a rocket scientist to know that he sucked. However, not so sure this ex skin is the one that the Boys need. Oh well, GO COWBOYS!!!
