Are You a True Fan?

First of all, I want to wish all my fellow Cowboys fans Happy Holidays! I hope you all get everything you wish for and more.

I’m going to tell you all what I consider to be a true fan. Some of you may agree, and some may not. This is just my opinion. To me, a true fan is someone who still loves their team even if they are 1-15….or 16-0. No matter how many senseless mistakes they make that cause them to lose a game, a true fan will love them regardless. It’s like your own children, no matter how much they screw up, you’ll love them no matter what. Well, that’s how I am with the Dallas Cowboys. Yes, I’d much rather see them win every game but that is next to impossible. Even the Patriots couldn’t do that a few years ago.

Any team can win at any time and our Cowboys proved they got the skill and heart to win last week against the previously unbeaten New Orleans Saints. Can they do it again? Sure they can! Will they? I think that remains to be seen. They need to win both of their remaining games in order to solidify a playoff spot. I don’t see much opposition coming their way from the Redskins but the Eagles are another story. I’m praying Denver can beat Philly today and Dallas beats Washington tonight. That will put our Boys back in a tie for 1st place in the NFC East. And we all know that the game next week will be a battle for sure. Gonna keep my fingers crossed!

Now, I’m going to address the situation with Nick Folk. I caught some flack a few weeks ago when I said that Dallas needed to let him go. Was it a smart decision? I think so. The poor guy just hasn’t been the same since his off season hip surgery. I was sad to see this happen to someone so young (26 years old) and who had made the Pro Bowl in his rookie season! Folk helped the Cowboys to alot of wins over the last couple years and yet he also cost them some games.

I’m rather nervous about whether or not Suisham will be able to step up to the plate but what’s done is done and there isn’t much we can do to change it now. I honestly don’t think the Cowboys will keep him unless he has a stellar performance during the next 2 games and possibly in the playoffs. And yes, I still think Jerry Jones should fire Wade Phillips. He just doesn’t seem to click well with the team. I’ve even heard talk about how Jason Garrett would make a better head coach than Phillips although I don’t necessarily agree. If Phillips remains in Dallas for another season, I’ll be truly surprised. You never know what Jerry Jones will do.

All very true, but a true fan also has the right to speak up when he/she believes their team is playing like crap. I’ve heard way too many times when the Boys are not playing well and I say something. All I hear is “you’re not a true fan”. Why? Because I’m speaking the truth?
You believed it was best for Folk to go. A few weeks back I didn’t want to give up on him. After the Saints game I knew it was time for a change. I still believe Folk can get back to where he was and I hope he resigns with the Cowboys in the off-season.
A true fan? Someone who supports their team, but also tells it like it is and never sugar coats things.

I totally agree with you. I’m a true die hard fan but I am not afraid to call the Boys out when I think they’re screwing up. I do tend to be on the optimistic side instead of pessimistic. I feel as though by remaining positive, it helps the team….as silly as that sounds.

The mind is a powerful thing Michelle. There are times that I believe the way I’m sitting or what I’m wearing will have an effect on how the Boys are playing. I also believe that when others are talking trash and I’m not that the Boys have a better chance of winning. Go figure!!! I guess all the practicing, studying and working out has nothing to do with it. LOL

It is truely blogs like this one where the first thing the writer talks about is how “TRUE BLUE” a fan is or tells me the reader the definition of what a “Real” cowboys fan is and is about that turns me off about this website.
As a fan, I buy, watch, think Cowboys almost 24/7 and it is the fans who by this really owns the team, because with out us what would a team be? Ask Jacksonville who may be looking to vacate the area because they simply don’t have the fans every game bringing in the revenue that is needed to survive. It is this that allows me the fan to be disgruntled, mad, and angry at a team when they lose games and gives me the right to speak my opinion about a team that I love so much. It is the love of the team that allows me to talk shit about them even when deep inside I am just blowing off steam. If I didn’t get that mad and frustrated about their play, it would mean I simply didn’t care that much, not that I am not a true fan of theirs. Hell, I was the first to admit I didn’t think they had a shot to win last week, but that is how we grow to love these teams year and year out when we find the desire and heart that these teams have when they pull off a win and express to the rest of the league and networks that they will not go down without a fight.
So please, as a website of fans for the fans, stop with the “True Blue” talk about how fans should be because not only one way is correct. If you have the love and passion for them and root them on as your team and have your way about doing it, it doesn’t mean you are more of a fan then the rest of us. Whether you wear their gear everyday or not, have every memoribilia about them or not, or whether you praise them, curse them or cry after they lose, if you say you are a fan of the Dallas Cowboys then here’s to you my brother and sister!

It seems to me that Michele made it clear in her first few words that this is what being a Cowboys fan means to her. She didn’t present it as a litmus test to test your degree of fandom.

I actually agree with you in that every fan is different. Some are too pessimistic, others too optimistic, and some in between. It doesn’t make one particular group of fans more supportive of the team than other Cowboys fans.

Being a fan is a personal bond one human being has with the team they follow. It’s as personal as the personal relationships you have with friends and acquaintances. And like those types of relationships, being a fan can have it’s ups and downs. But the love and support is always there regardless.

As a multi author site, no one blogger on this site speaks for the rest of us. It is unique in that regard. So please remember that the next time you disagree with a particular post.

Smoke, I totally agree with you and what you said. Each and every fan is different on how they show their support and it doesn’t make them any less of a fan. I apologize if that’s what you misunderstood from what I said. Even though I try to remain positive in my thinking, there are times when I get angry with the team and want to smack them upside the head lol. I never said that my way was how fans “should be”….I was just saying that’s how I am.

    What is a true fan??

No one way is correct, but I feel a true fan exemplifies someone or something that stands by a team no matter what, regardless of sport/activity. Someone who may not always agree with decisions made, but you support said decisions. Through the trials and tribulations of a long season, you’re there to support them, every game, in anyway possible…

Me personally, specifically for the Cowboys… I don’t have to wear their equipment everyday, But I do have to visit to read every story, see every news conference, listen to Talkin’ Cowboys. I have to know all the activity happening with this organization at all times, that’s just how I am…. Matter of fact, the next time I’ve got some extra cash laying around, I plan on getting the Star tattooed on my arm… That’s how dedicated I am to this team….

As far as Suisham, I too believe he is not going to be resigned, He’s just there til we’re eliminated… All depends on how he performs this final game and into the postseason, I guess. Wade Phillips will be the coach next year, especially if he wins a playoff game or two, or three or four. 😉

He’s done phenomenal in three seasons as coach. Now that Romo is maturing and is not making hardly any mistakes, I see no reason why Jerry should make the move. That’s just how I feel, though. You never really truly know what JJ is thinking.

Being a “true” fan or not a “true” fan is based upon opinion.

I will always be a Cowboys fan, and that to me is a “true” fan, but again, that’s my opinion of what I call a “true” fan. I will never call someone out saying they aren’t a “true” fan, regardless of what they say or do.
