Cowboys Rumblings and Grumblings

It’s been pretty quiet this week as far as Cowboys news goes, but here’s a few things that might interest some of you.

To begin, the Oakland Raiders have released ex-Cowboy Greg Ellis after a dismal injury-plagued season. one-year stint on the West Coast. he still has some money coming to him from the guaranteed $10 million dollars he received from the Raiders. It looks like it might be the end of the road for Ellis who is still battling an arthritic knee.

Martellus Bennett continues to voice displeasure over his role with the Cowboys. In an interview which you could watch here courtesy of the DMN, he said,

“I think I could be one of the all-time greats. Probably the system has to change for me to produce. You’ve got to fit into the system. It’s not just all on the player. It’s different things that have to be done to put me in a position to make those plays.”

This isn’t the first time he has expressed his angst with his role on the team and his future with the organization.

Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones, is not the least bit concerned with the team’s lack of movement in this years free agent market.

“We’re pleased with what we have in place with the Cowboys. But if you look at our past several years, we’ve never jumped right out there in free agency, and really, I don’t ever look at what other teams are doing. I look at what we’re about, and we have some places that we can improve our team in free agency just as we will in the draft, but there’s no angst about getting anxious here. We’re just watching it unfold.”

I really don’t see the Cowboys as major players in free agency this offseason. As a whole the roster is solid and only needs some shoring up depth wise and at the offensive line which they can easily do via the draft.

  • i think the more we wait, the more marty b opens his mouth and his trade value continues to plummit. we should take what we can for him and move on. drop deon anderson too, while were at it. he’ll probably end up suspended anyway. then draft an athletic blocking tight end like the kid from pitt, dorin dickerson. he could make up for both roster spots and we could use the extra somewhere else, especially if buehler cant do both kicking duties this year.

    • Yep, I agree with you Nate. I wrote as much about 3 weeks ago and unfortunately his value will take a hit as along as he makes comments like this and gives the Cowboys less and less leverage.

  • I agree nate. Let’s see if we can get something for Bennett. Not because of what he said, but because it will give him a chance to be a starter and give us something back.

  • I think Marty B just needs to grow up. I don’t think he’s done with us quite yet, but if he doesn’t produce something soon, by the middle of the season, he could be shipped out.

  • Marty B could trim down and take Roy Williams place
    as the #2 receiver

  • That’s why we have Kevin Ogletree. He’s going to take Roys spot.

    • Rob V is another Kevin Ogletree reminds me of another
Kevin Williams. We need another big physical receiver
like Micheal Irvin and Martellus has both the size and power
to match up with those corners and safeties. Whenever you
get a chance compare the two Kevins and tell me
what you think. Now what Martellus bring to the receiving corp
as a receiver instead of a tight end is the going across the middle
and block down field on the run plays. Ogletree don’t have
      the size to do that.

  • No one can compare the two because Olgetree has not been given the opportunity yet. I would compare Kevin Williams to Crayton. I like what I see from Olgetree. He has that fire in his eyes. Not to mention that Romo has no problem going in his direction. That says a lot right there. I really hope he is given a fair shot this preseason.

    • I just viewed Bennett and Ogletree stats and I would rather
see the Cowboys put Bennett in Williams place. We’re talking
about a 6’6 235lb. receiver who can catch and be physical.
I can promise you he would be a better fit at the position
      receiver spot

      • i agree i think it would b good for marty b to lose 10 to 15 make em a lil faster ,, and he would bring alot of phisicle presence to the run game and over the middle. tall target too .but i do hope ogletree gets a chance im not sold on williams and thought back then dallas made a big mistake. you dont get rid of a producing wr unless hes on downside of game. dallas paid too much .

    • The one thing that needs to be address is at quarter back.
Romo need someone that can actually feel threatened about
his job. Now both Ogeltree and Bennett both are 2nd year
players and I wish the Cowboys would consider putting
as the position receiver and bench Williams unless they
trade him first. now as far as draft the Cowboys should
go after rookies and not free agents for those position.
Now the biggest question should be about Flozell Adams
