Cowboys Interested In Darren Sharper

As reported by ProFootballTalk.com, the Cowboys have expressed interest in Darren Sharper the free agent safety who played for the Saints in 2009. Sharper is visiting Jacksonville today and could be headed to Dallas next.

I believe this would be a big signing for the Cowboys as well as their defense since they released Ken Hamlin a few weeks ago. Sharper can be that one big free agent signing like Keith Brooking was last season. He will upgrade the secondary and be another leader for the young guys on the team.

In other news as reported by ESPN.com, the Cowboys have resigned free agent guard Montrae Holland to a two year contract. This adds some much needed depth to the offensive line of the Cowboys.

Reported by NFL.com, undrafted tight end Scott Sicko from New Hampshire has signed with the Cowboys. Sicko is 6-foot-4 and 251 pounds and in 2009 he had 57 receptions for 725 yards and nine touchdowns. He earned first-team All-America honors in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA).

I prefer Sharper over Atogwe at this point. Sharper has a foot injury and gave up big chunks of yards last year, but also had 9 interceptions. Atogwe had reconstructive shoulder surgery and has a sports hernia. That’s not good. Doubt he passes a physical by his June 1st deadline in which he would become an unrestricted free-agent. Jerry has to weigh the cost to sign Sharper at a contract above what Jax and Saints would pay vs. the amount of better play he’d get over starting Alan Ball. Looking forward to seeing the results. I have a feeling, if Jerry viewed Sharper a huge upgrade over Ball, he wouldnt be visiting Jax. I dunno. Just my 2 cents for what its worth.

  2. I would love to see the Cowboys sign Sharper because he always seemed like a very team oriented guy, not to mention a talented safety.

He takes risks, and sometimes gets burned because of it, but that’s exactly the kind of aggressive player we could use. He’d be a nice balance with some of our somewhat conservative type players. If he is healthy, he could very well be a nice veteran addition. I wouldn’t give him more than one year guaranteed though.

    News regarding Atogwe:

According to Brian Stull of ESPN 101 St. Louis, the Rams’ Wednesday trade for S Kevin Payne does not impact their intentions regarding unsigned restricted free agent FS O.J. Atogwe.
Stull expects the Rams to increase Atogwe’s tender to 110 percent of his 2009 base salary, or $7.674 million, before the July 1 deadline, and Atogwe to sign that one-year offer. Ideally, Atogwe will return at free safety with Payne pushing James Butler on the strong side. Butler deserves competition after biting on too many play-action fakes last season.

I know all of you watched the saints last year and what Sharper did for them. I say SIGN HIM NOW!!!! look at what he did for the saints. He raised their defense enough to WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP. Without him they would have never won last year. I think the Saints screwed up not re-signing him and if we get the chance. SIGN HIM NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Darren Sharper is a perfect fit in Dallas… Akwasi is the future at the position if he stays healthy IMO but having Sharper for 1 or 2 yr’s while we groom him & instantly making the team better is a great idea… I don’t like Atogwe from the Rams bc he is still fairly young & would hurt the production of both Akwasi & M.Hamlin… What do you guys think?

  7. Michael Smith

Darren Sharper would be a perfect fit for a young defense. But Dallas also needs to sign a left tacle or trade for one. A young guy like Jared Gaither is a young linemen that they need. They should trade Martellus Benette for Gaither.

I agree about Gaither & or Marcus McNeil from San Diego Michael but to be honest I really like Marty B lol as weird as that sounds…I really feel like we haven’t tapped into hardly any of his potential just yet… Maybe we could package Patrick Crayton, Bobby Carpenter, & a pick from next yr maybe a 3rd rounder or a 3rd & 5th since the draft isn’t deep?
