I was out with a few friends talking sports like we do. The subject matter mind you was about basketball with the Lakers vs. Celtics going on. One of my friends outta the blue yells out, “I hate Romo man! He playing golf, what kinda of QB play golf?” All six of us stood there staring at my “assuming” highly inebriated friend. I said, “Tony is good. Why is you talking about this man? (Yes I speak using incorrect grammar, sue me!)” He points at the TV screen showing Romo hitting a golf ball. “He need to be practicing on his throwing, he ain’t no Quincy Carter.”
Yes, let me repeat that. Tony Romo ain’t no Quincy Carter. Then my friend goes on a 4 minute tirade on how Romo is killing the Cowboys and how great Carter was and that Jerry Jones didn’t want him there being a black quarterback. Now other then me there is only one other Cowboys fan, the others are, get this, JOINING IN! I mean damn, what did I miss? I know for every 20 Cowboy fans you get 2 who are complete idiots who think they are better GM then Jerry, but damn. Stevie Wonder blindfolded closing his eyes locked in a pitch black room can see the crap that oozed off of Quincy.
Now that’s not to say I wasn’t a fan of Quincy. As a matter of fact, he wasn’t half bad. His rookie season wasn’t A+ but he had room to grow in which he ended up losing to Chad Hutchinson. You remember the pitcher with a heart of gold. Yea, well all this happen when him and Jerry got in a argument on the bench. When Parcells got here he did well, I mean really well for a guy who got sacked 37 and fumbled 10 times. The next year Jones and Parcells got rid of him for Drew Henson (Another damn pitcher!) Vinny “I need to retire” Testaverde and Tony Romo…AHHHHHHH! Irony! Horrible, Horrible Irony! He basically left due to a failed drug test. Well this is America. The greatest country in the world, everyone is allowed to have a second chance. So he went to the Jets. Sadly I have no joke for that.
During the 2004 playoffs unfortunately Quincy had a drug relapse and was found to have bipolar disorder. Well damn, that’s messed up. You got to feel for the guy. So he went to Canada and played for Montreal. Only to be released. Really? Carter said “This is a joke…an insult!”. I’m with you on that Quincy. It’s the CFL where do they get off? In response to that epic and truthful statement, Montreal said “Carter has a serious marijuana problem.” Wait Q, WHERE DO YOU GET OFF!? Let me put it to you this way. Ricky Williams played in the CFL two years and was lighting up like hell, but Quincy not even playing a game did it more then Ricky. That is some s***! I mean wow!
From that time until now he bounced from the AFL to the af2 to semi-pro football. During this time he was in and out of jail and court. Quincy Carter seems to be one of those guy who stuck inside a vortex of bad decisions. A part of me feels bad for him as a man. But as a person who loves football and who would kill to have a tenth of his skill, I could careless about him.
Oddly enough, back to the subject. I called my drunk friend an idiot and cussed him out for it. He said I was right and he took it back. Good. But then he says Troy Hambrick was underrated. Yeah, it was a long night.
