Meeting Our Heroes

They come  into our lives on a weekly basis. We watch every game, every play, every move they make. We check to see if they are going to be interviewed on any local or national television show. We search the web for articles and new pictures we haven't seen. They are plastered all over our walls with pictures and posters. We wear T-shirts, caps, jackets any thing we can find that has a star on it and is blue and silver. I even dress my teddy bears in Cowboy clothes. So with the Cowboys being in our lives 24/7 they are a part of our family. They are heroes to us! But how many of us have had the opportunity to meet them in person?

One of the biggest Cowboy fans on myspace, Stargazzing, had the opportunity to meet the great Randy White. She posted pictures and I could feel how nervous she was! So that made me remember the opportunities that I have had in my life to meet my three heroes. Two are Dallas Cowboys and one is just a cowboy!

In the 80's I had the biggest crush on the Dallas Cowboy Quarterback at the time #11 Danny White. I thought he could walk on water. I never missed a game. I was lucky enough to attend a game in 1983. Which was amazing! But, there was more to come for me during the offseason, I found out that Danny was singing at a big club in Tulsa. I was so excited. I had already bought his album (yes album) and listened to it every day. I lacked two months of being 21, the legal age to be able to enter a night club. But my amazing Dad was friends with the manager of the club and before I knew it I was sitting with my Dad, Mom, and my future husband in the second row of tables in front of the stage. The manager and her husband joined us and we were having a great time. I had my camera in hand ready for the show then  someone grabs my arm and says, "Come with me." I look up and see a security guard. Oh crap! I thought I was busted for not being 21. He leads me to a door, as it opens, who do I see sitting on a couch waiting to take the stage but, Danny! He smiled and said, "Hi, I hear you are a fan." All I could do is shake my head. I couldn't speak, I started shaking. I had a shirt made that read "I love Danny" on the front. Someone pointed that out to him and he smiled and winked at me. I thought I was going to faint! He signed my shirt and gave me  a big hug and thanked me for the support. When I got back to table everyone was laughing and I still couldn't speak. All I could think was I didn't have my camera with me, lol!

My second hero is just a cowboy, Garth Brooks. I have had the pleasure of meeting quite a few times. I was a member of his fan club. After concerts we got the opportunity to go backstage and have a meet and greet. Our first one was on his bus. Which was pretty cool. Garth has a way of making every fan feel like a friend. He is a fantastic person and he truly cares about each and every one of us. With him I wasn't nervous at all because he makes you feel like you are talking to a friend.

I didn't think I could possibly be able to meet my third hero one of the best fullbacks the NFL has ever had, Moose! I knew I wasn't going to be able to go to Dallas and he doesn't sing that I know of, so there was no way I was going to meet him. Then one day on the radio I hear that the Cowboys would be playing in a basketball game for charity in Tulsa. Wow that will be fun I thought so I bought tickets not knowing who would be there.  The day of the game it was all over the radio that "Moose" was playing in the game! I couldn't believe it! I was standing in line before the game to get a autograph and I had to pinch myself. I had cut from the newspaper a picture of his first touchdown so I took it for him to sign, he looked at it and smiled and said he hadn't seen that picture before. He was really sweet. As the game went on you could see he liked to kid around and had a cute personality.

So I feel like I have been so lucky. I have had three heroes and I was fortunate enough to meet each. Sometimes you hear about fans being let down by stars and athletes. They blow off the fans, are rude and just won't take the time to interact. I have to say I was worried that I had each of these men up on a pedestal and they might just let me down but, these three men were everything I imagined and more.

After seeing Stargazzing pictures I started wondering who lonestarstruck readers have been able to meet. Were you pleased with the meeting or maybe let down? Let's hear about your experience with your heroes.

A Star worthy of THE Star!

Hey! Are you ready for Sunday? It's the one day out of the year that a commercial during the game won't send me running from the room! LOL!

There are a ton of rumors floating around. My friends help keep me up to date on the latest developments. (Thanks, you guys!!) Today, I was hit with a 'forward' that blew my mind! A petition to keep M. Barber.

Did you just say, "WHAT!?!" I did!!

Barber is a Star and there is only One Star I want to see him wearing!

http://www.petitiononline.com:80/keepmb3/

I can't seem to find anything about this online any where else. I hope it is someone's idea of a joke but when it comes to Barber, I'm not willing to take that chance! It was three days ago that we heard '5 year contract' and 'Barber...' in the same sentence! I say, let Miami have Carpenter and J.Jones! They are the players Parcells wanted from the start!

Maybe we can get some answers to some of these rumors soon. It's enough to drive fans like you and me into a frenzy. I don't know about you but I can't afford any more blonde hair... HEY, That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!!

I hope you all have fun on Sunday. Our team won't be there but we now officially hold a NEW record! The team with the most players voted to the Pro Bowl! That's pretty cool! I am standing by what I said two weeks ago! We have every reason to be proud of our favorite team and optimistic about their future!

Ya'll have a Super Hump Day!

Barber? Jones? McFadden? Who’s Going? Who’s Staying? Who’s Coming?

Originally, I had planned to write this blog on why I think we should go ahead and trade Julius Jones and keep Marion Barber. I have thought for the most of the season that Barber is the future in the Cowboys backfield. While Jones is a good back and can certainly be the lead man in another offense, I think he has seen the writing on the wall in Dallas, and realizes that he is going to be relegated to a supporting role for Barber. Because of this, I think Jones slacked off this season. When he gets the chance to carry the ball, he spends his time dancing around the backfield, waiting for a hole to open up. Barber, on the other hand, tends to make a hole if one isn’t readily available.

My reasoning here is, that Julius Jones, while a talented and hard worker, has lost heart, due to his realization that Barber is now perceived as the premier back. Julius knows that he can be the top back in many other offensive schemes, just not here with the Cowboys. Therefore, I was going to argue that we should get a contract on Barber and lock him in long term and let Jones go with our best wishes since I don’t think we can keep both.

Then - from stage left, enters Darren McFadden of Arkansas. The rumors are flying that Jerry Jones wants McFadden and wants him badly. Miami, of course, would have the first shot at McFadden (or anyone) due to having the first round draft pick this coming year. As we all know, we have already had a mass exodus of coaches from Dallas to Miami to join the Big Tuna. In thinking about this, it seems that Jerry Jones has been very cooperative in this process, and has allowed these guys to leave without much effort to keep them. In addition, it is also rumored that Miami wants Barber.  Could there be a deal in the works to let assistant coaches go without a whimper, while also tossing Barber into the mix at some point in order for the Cowboys to get their hands on that first round draft pick?

To be honest, I have no idea. All I know are the rumors I hear on the sports shows and the other blogs and fan sites I read. I love Barber and don’t want to see him go. However, I loved Herschel Walker and thought his trade was one of the most stupid things I had ever seen - at the time it happened. Of course, I realized later, that “The Trade” as it would come to be known, was a brilliant coup on the part of Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson to lay the foundation for a dynasty, while Minnesota ended up feeling like they had bought a huge “lemon” from the shadiest used car dealer in town. Ultimately, the final results of “The Trade” brought some now familiar names to the Boys - Emmitt Smith, Russell Maryland, Kevin Smith, Darren Woodson, and Clayton Holmes.  For Minnesota, the results brought - relative obscurity.

My thoughts here are this, I know Jerry Jones is a smart business man. He knows how to cut a deal, and has proven that time and again in the past. I admit that I have thought him crazy at times in the past and then later, I was proven wrong when the impact of these deals have been brought to light. Jones obviously has some neurons and synapses firing in his head that don’t work so well in my noggin. But please, let’s not make the mistake Minnesota did - thinking they were one back away from a championship, they sold their soul (and their supporting cast) to get him.

Again, I love Barber and think he may be the toughest back out there. McFadden is, without a doubt, extremely talented, yet unproven in the NFL. Barber has already proven himself with the Cowboys. Aren’t there other possible ways of getting McFadden without giving up Barber? Is all this just unfounded rumor with no basis in reality? Many have said so. They say there’s no way Jones will let Barber go. It’s a given that Jerry Jones will sign him. I thought so too, but why hasn’t he done so yet? What’s the hold up? As a restricted free agent, my understanding is that you simply have to tender him an offer to lock him in, but this, as of yet, hasn’t happened.

For the most part, in this blog, I am just thinking out loud. I certainly don’t pretend to be an expert - just a devoted fan trying to figure out what’s going on. What do you, the readers think? Please feel free to share your thoughts with me. Is all this a possibility? Am I nuts? Hit me back. Let me know what you think.

Lucky Number 13

It was announced today that Greg Ellis will join the dozen other Cowboys in Hawaii for the Pro Bowl next month. Ellis will replace the Bears linebacker Lance Briggs on the roster.

It was thought by many that Greg Ellis was snubbed when he was not selected for the Pro Bowl this year. He had a career year and was also named the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year.

This is Ellis' first Pro Bowl selection in 10 years. Congrats!

Campo Most Likely Headed Back to Dallas

As the Super Bowl approaches the rumors are flying around Valley Ranch, but nothing will be announced until after Sunday's NFL finale. Amongst the trade rumors and draft suggestions, there is really only one rumor that is likely to become reality, the return on Dave Campo.

Former head coach Dave Campo visited Valley Ranch yesterday. He could become the next secondary coach, replacing Todd Bowles who departed for Miami. Campo has been coaching in Jacksonville for the last three years.

To refresh your memories, Dave Campo started out with the Cowboys in 1989 when Jerry Jones took over the team. Campo took on many positions over the years such as defensive assistant, secondary coach and defensive coordinator. As defensive coordinator from 95-99, his defense finished within the top 10 overall in the NFL in four of those five years.

He was promoted head coach after Chan Gailey was fired in 2000. As head coach Campo went 15-33. Yes that's right, three straight seasons ending at 5-11. Those were tough times for the Cowboys when salary caps and injuries really damaged the team. At the end of 2002 Campo was released and Bill Parcells took over.

Dave Campo is ready to return to Dallas and most likely it's going to happen. We just have to wait a few more days for the announcement.

**UPDATE** Albert Breer of The Dallas Morning News reports that the Cowboys have hired Dave Campo to be their new secondary coach.

Is This The End For Superman?

While Jerry Jones is busy trying to fill out his coaching staff for next season and getting ready for the NFL Draft, there is something lurking in the midst. For many years he has been the face of the Dallas Cowboys franchise and hailed as Superman, but even Superman came to an unexpected and tragic end against his comic book foe, Doomsday.

Is our own Superman heading for the same tragic ending as the man of steel?

He who was once so highly favored by Cowboys fans everywhere, has now become the target of the fan's scorn and criticism. And while I believe much of this is unwarranted and unjustified, the natives are certainly getting restless, whenever the name Roy Williams is uttered.

This past week, much of the discussions on Cowboys blogs everywhere has been centered around the financial burden that Roy Williams' contract now has on the team.

Roy Williams is scheduled to count $6.667 million against the cap in 2008 and about the same in 2009. Even if they were to cut him (something that has not been ruled out), he would still count for millions against the cap because most of the contract was paid as a signing bonus. Ouch!

Trading him is out of the question, because no team would be willing to take on a contract like that... at least not in this world, but in Metropolis anything is possible.

Despite the realization that Jerry Jones may have stuck the team with a bad contractual obligation, you can't blame Williams for taking the best deal he could get. Wouldn't we do the same thing in his place?

The fact of the matter is that Roy Williams is stuck with us, and we are stuck with him. So why not make the best of the situation?

Greg Ellis won this season's Comeback Player of the Year Award at the ripe old age of 32. Who is to say that the 27-year old Roy Williams can't do the same thing next season?

Shouldn't we cut him some slack after all of the years of loyalty, hard work and excitement he has provided to our team?

The city of Metropolis would never turn their back on their Superman. Why can't the great city of Dallas do the same?

I know it's easy to love a player when he's riding high, and sour on him when the going gets tough. What I'm suggesting is that we give Roy Williams the opportunity to fight through this slump with the support of all Cowboys fans.

There is no telling how much we can achieve when we are all united and aspiring for the same goal. Let us not become his kryptonite.

The Sunday Spot by Fredooch

Hey Cowboy fans, it’s me Fredooch bringing you your update for the week and my personal feelings when it comes to all things Dallas Cowboys. First of all let me say I couldn’t of be prouder to be on this staff than if I were a staff member on DallasCowboys.com. We have a great bunch of writers and staffers here and all I can say, and I can’t say it enough, thanks Kelly for making me part of this thing here on LoneStarStruck.com. Its both and honor and a pleasure.

Ok now onto the Dallas Cowboys Rumor mill:

*Rumors out of Miami and Detroit have all three franchises talking trade come draft day. Rumor out of Miami has it that Bill Parcells still thinks the world of OLB Bobby Carpenter (believe it or not) and that Carpenter will be shipped out to Miami come draft day for a 3rd rounder. Rumor out of Detroit has WR Roy Williams coming to Dallas for DT Marcus Spears and the 28th pick of the NFL Draft.

  • According to sources close to Dallas WR Terry Glenn, he will bypass having microfracture surgery on his injured knee to play one final year in the NFL. He hopes it’s with Dallas. If he is cut or released, he will retire.
  • Julius Jones, according to some sources wants to be a feature back in the NFL and has his eyes on either the Atlanta Falcons or Carolina Panthers.
  • The Dallas Cowboys are actively trying to lock-up RB Marion Barber III and DE Chris Canty to 5 year deals and both will be signed in the next couple of weeks. Expect Canty to sign a deal similar to the one Jay Ratliff signed during the season, maybe a little more expensive.
  • Jerry Jones is still EXTREMELY DISSAPOINTED about the loss to New York. Sources say that Jerry Jones wasn’t even able to watch the NFC Championship game this past week. EXPECT Jerry to sign a BIG-TIME free-agent this off-season on the defensive side of the ball. I say it’s going to be CB Marcus Trufant or CB Ashante Samuel. If it happens, remember where you heard it first. Everybody said that the Cowboys would never sign Deion Sanders because he was too expensive. Well guess what? Jerry got creative, which I believe he is the best in the business at, and signed Deion.

Now for my Dallas Cowboys ranting. I was a little disturbed last week by something DT Marcus Spears said after the Cowboys loss to the Giants in the post-game interview. I don’t know if any of you caught that interview but Spears basically said in a nut shell that some players on the Cowboys side didn’t give 100 %, including him, which is why they lost. Now, I know what you’re saying. He was just being hard on himself. NO! When Spears said this, he said it so nonchalantly. Like oh well, we lost, get over it!

The Giants wanted it more than we did. I don’t know if this attitude is the reason the Cowboys are actively “shopping” Spears but considering all things, I do hope we get rid of this guy if this is his way of thinking. It’s easy for me to sit here and criticize a guy but when your making more money than Police Officers and Fire Fighters make in 10 years, you bet your two cents you're going to get criticized, especially by me.

If God had granted me the athletic ability of a Marcus Spears or a Roy Williams, yes our Roy Williams, and I was making millions of dollars a year to play a child’s game, then I would give everything I had on every play and leave everything on the field. If we lost, then I could go to sleep at night knowing fully well that I left everything on that field that Sunday afternoon. And when I retired, the only thing I would want to be remembered for by my peers is that every time they faced me, they feared me and knew they always got 200% from me.

I remembered I once was watching this NFL films program on Hall Of Fame lineman from either the Steelers or 49ers of the 70’s or 80’s I don’t recall and they asked him who the best player they ever faced across from them was. I remember this guy saying, and don’t quote me word for word here, “Oh man, that’s easy. It’s without a doubt Randy White. That guy was a Beast. He had this clock that would never stop ticking and whenever I faced him I was physically and emotionally drained. You always got 100 % from that guy. They called him the Manster. He literally was half man and half monster.” Of course Randy White was an All-Pro and Hall of Famer and a 1st Round Pick.

My point is that if everyone on this team gave everything they had two weeks ago, we would be talking Cowboys vs. Patriots Superbowl. But it wasn’t meant to be. I am not saying that Marcus Spears is a horrible player but he has not lived up to the billing of being a 1st round draft pick. Bobby Carpenter hasn’t either but at least Spears has been given the opportunity. So I will leave it at that Cowboy fans.  Well that’s all for now kiddies and remember, see you next Sunday. Same Cowboys time! Same Cowboys place! Same Cowboys channel!

YEAR END STATS

Now that our team’s season is over, I took some time to reflect on how they compared with the rest of the league. This is what I found.

League Leaders - Offense

3. Tony Romo DAL 4211

Receiving Yards

5. Terrell Owens DAL 1355
* He missed the last week and a half with that injury

Rushing Yards

18. Marion Barber DAL 975

37. Julius Jones DAL 588

* Wasn’t he our starter? Are we keeping him next season?

Kicking Average

26. Nicholas Folk DAL 62.6
*It’s only 8 yds shorter than the leader.

Field Goals

12. Nicholas Folk DAL K 26/31
Punting yards

22. Mat McBriar DAL 2,424

Touchdowns

4. Terrell Owens DAL 15
*Honorable mention

7. Marion Barber DAL 12

***********************

League Leaders - Defense

Sacks

3. DeMarcus Ware DAL 14.0

Interceptions

5. Anthony Henry DAL 6

Tackles

35. Bradie James DAL 101
*HELP!

Overall, the Cowboys did very well, with the obvious exception of tackles. [Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t that what the defense is supposed to do?]

And the stats prove what we knew all year - Romo, Owens and Barber are our studs.

Joe D Interviews Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson

Today I thought I would surprise all of you with a special phone interview I conducted with former Dallas Cowboy, Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson.

Hollywood Henderson was nice enough to grant my request for an interview last week and on Wednesday we were finally able to get together and have a nice chat about a wide variety of topics including; His early years, his service to his community, his work with children, the state of today's game, and of course the 2007 Cowboys.

Hollywood Henderson is a generous man who has led a remarkable life and it is so interesting to see how this inspiring figure evolves from a troubled young man into a role model for people of all ages. It was a pleasure hearing him tell his uplifting story and I would recommend that each of you by a copy of his newest book entitled, "In Control, The Rebirth of an NFL Legend". The book is available at amazon.com and is the much anticipated follow-up to his first book "Out of Control: Confessions of an NFL Casualty". An autographed copy is also available here.

You can also visit Hollywood Henderson at his website and see all the wonderful things he is currently working on.

The interview is about 14 minutes long, and I included a photo collage which I think compliments the audio very well.

This is only the first of a series of interviews I will be conducting with several notable players and coaches as The Cowboys Nation and Lone Star Struck help to make the offseason more enjoyable for Cowboys fans.

A text transcript of the video is in development and as soon as we get it back from production, you can view the full version of it at myspace.com/TheCowboysNation.

Enjoy the interview!

Why I am Rooting for the Giants in Superbowl XLII

Yes, I know this is a Cowboys fan site and yes, I know many of my Cowboy friends could care less about who comes out on top in this year’s Superbowl. However, I have decided to throw my support behind the Giants, and here’s why:

First of all, New England is a great team - I will give them that. Are they the greatest team of all time?  I’m not ready to place that accolade upon their head. They do have the greatest regular season record of all time (Remember the Dolphins season in 1972 was only 14 games long).  Are they invincible? I definitely don’t believe that. I have seen them struggle from time to time this season and I think that even the mighty Patriots have their weaknesses that can be exploited.

My biggest problem with the Patriots, is that while I think they are a great team, I cringe every time I hear an analyst on ESPN or some other sports show, gushing with orgasmic delight when they talk about this team. Yes, they’re good, but c’mon people… Here‘s a towel. Clean yourself off and let‘s try to be objective. They are not a machine and they are not without their faults.

The Giants, on the other hand, are a team many feel don’t deserve to be in the Superbowl. They didn’t play consistently throughout the season and couldn’t even win their division. However, they have done what it takes down the stretch and have put together an impressive record on the road.  Maybe they don’t deserve it, but it’s hard to argue with the fact that they’re still there while the players of 30 other teams are home enjoying chips, dip, and a cold one on the couch.

I have argued for years that the NFC East is consistently the best division in football. I realize that there are years when they don’t produce threatening teams like they have in other years, but on a year in, year out basis, the NFC East usually fields some pretty tough teams. Which means that for the Cowboys to win the East is an impressive achievement in and of itself.

My argument here is, if the Giants win the Superbowl, it buttresses the Cowboy claim to a great season (although I don‘t think we need any other validation). We beat the Giants twice during the regular season, and took the division title. Yes, we lost to the Giants in the post-season when it counted most, but the team to knock us out was one of our own. Three out of four NFC East teams made the playoffs, and I think that’s impressive. For an NFC East team to win the Superbowl, just shows that the young NFC East Champion Cowboys are a team to be reckoned with next year.

I didn’t write this blog to convince you to root for the Giants. I am just trying to explain my reasoning. I really don’t care who you root for in the Superbowl, just as long as you continue to support the Cowboys with your heart and soul.

What I would like to convince you of is this:  Don’t be like the Cowboy-haters out there. You know, those people who can’t bear to give us credit when credit is due. The Cowboys are a polarizing team - it seems you either love them or hate them. There isn’t much ground in between. The haters always want to find fault, downplay our achievements, and come up with reasons as to why we aren’t the team our record shows.  Let us not be that way, Cowboy fans.  We should rise above the pettiness and hate for the accomplishments of other teams. Whichever team wins this Superbowl should be deserving of our congratulatory kudos.  We’re above the bitterness, snide comments, and hate-filled talk.  We’re Cowboys. Our day will come….

Super Bowl = Super Commericals!

Cowboy Fans may not be as quick to admit they will watch the upcoming Super Bowl. I, for one, won't miss it! Not because I want to see either of the teams with the win but because I want to see the COMMERCIALS!!

Over the years, the Super Bowl has brought us some of the most creative and interesting commercials. I make a point to vote for my favorites online and watch the news to see who earned the Number 1 spot as a favorite.

I found a list of the Top 10 Super Bowl commercials ever at MSNBC at MSN. Check it out! http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16691199/

#10 Budweiser 1995 - 3 croaking frogs
#9 Xerox 'Monks' 1997
#8 Tabasco 'Mosquito' 1998
#7 Electronic Data Systems 'Herding Cats' 2000
#6 McDonalds "The Showdown' 1993
#5 Monster.com 'When I Grow Up' 1999
#4 Reebok 'Terry Tate, Office Linebacker' 2003
#3 E*Trade "Monkey' 2000
#2 Coke 'Mean Joe Green'
#1 Apple Computers 1984

The interesting thing is, Apple spent a cool $1-million on their add in 1984. It ran one time. If I had to pick one of these as my favorite, it would be #2. I absolutely LOVE that commercial!

Early release discussions about the upcoming commercials indicate that this is the year of commercials for the ULTIMATE FANS!! They plan to keep it light and fun. We have a while to go to find out for ourselves. As Feb. 3rd gets closer, more details will be released along with links where we can vote for our favorites! I will bring you the latest details on this next week! Be sure to stay tuned!!

Cowboy Fans may not be interested in the outcome of this game but we can certainly look forward to being entertained by advertisers everywhere!

I'll blog at ya next week! 'Til then - Have a good one!

Boys Have Alot to Hang Their Hats On

As I enjoyed my Monday off thanks to one of the most influential figures in American history, I watched highlights of every game the Cowboys played this year in an attempt to help my still heavy heart.  As it turns out, reflecting on our successful season was just what the doctor ordered.  Here's a list of players who I thought had surprisingly successful years.

Greg Ellis

I'll put up with a little off-season belly-aching from Greg anytime as long as he buckles up and goes to work like he did this year.  Seriously, hats off to this guy for his monstrous play this year.  When the complaining started in the summer, everybody including me thought it was time for Greg to hang up his spurs.  But you kind of got the feeling that Greg had a giant chip on his shoulder after his first game back against the Rams.  You could commonly spot Ellis in the backfield racking up sacks and stripping the quarterback.  He was a great compliment to Demarcus Ware and I see no reason why he should not be back next year flustering quarterbacks with his counterpart.

Ken Hamlin

The Cowboys could not have asked for anything more than what they got from Ken Hamlin this year.  They signed the guy to a one-year deal in the off-season, hoping his play would do justice for a bigger contract next year.  It's safe to say Dallas found a baller in Hamlin.  He constantly made interceptions at key times in games and was the leader in the secondary when it came to getting everyone lined up in the proper formation.  I'd venture to say that Hamlin had a bigger presence in the secondary this year than Roy Williams.  Expect Hamlin to receive a fat pay raise from Mr. Jones and stay in Dallas for awhile.

Patrick Crayton

We all held our breath in the summer and hoped that Terry Glenn would be ready at some point this season.  But when week 1 rolled around, it appeared that Terry Glenn would be resting his moneymakers a little longer than initially expected.  No problem.  Insert Patrick Crayton.  After seeing Crayton perform at a high level the first few weeks of the season, it was obvious that he was no longer a pup from Northwestern Oklahoma State.  The offense ran like a well-oiled machine and never missed a beat with Crayton lined up opposite Terrell Owens.  Now, we can still sit in our favorite Sunday armchair and daydream about what could have been with Owens, Crayton, and Glenn on the field at the same time, but it seems as though Dallas has found a franchise wide receiver in Patrick Crayton.

Trade Rumors Swirling Around Valley Ranch

From Dallas Morning News:

Rumor has it that the Cowboys are shopping former first-round picks DE Marcus Spears and LB Bobby Carpenter at the Senior Bowl.

Carpenter simply isn't a fit in a 3-4 defense, which makes Bill Parcells' decision to pick him pretty puzzling. Carpenter couldn't get on the field in any of the Cowboys' defensive packages this season but was a solid special teams player. He wasn't considered a reach when the Cowboys drafted him 19th overall two years ago, so some 4-3 teams might be interested.

Spears isn't a bad player, but he hasn't lived up to his first-round billing. To use a Tuna term, he's J.A.G. If the Cowboys get rid of Spears, Jay Ratliff could take his job, with Jason Ferguson and Tank Johnson forming a good NT tandem.

Time to give Jerry some advice: What would you want for Spears or Carpenter? I'm not sure the return for either would be more than a second-day pick, so try to be realistic.

In my opinion the Cowboys must keep Marion Barber, Chris Canty, Ken Hamlin and Tony Curtis. I believe all of those players will help the future of this team. Some might add Flozell in with those names, but he just has too many penalties, and we all know when it comes down to it, penalties can make or break a game. Free agency signing period begins February 29th.

Cowboys fans have fallen in love with Marion Barber. With his rough style that earned him 10 touchdowns and 975 yards as the back-up running back to Julius Jones, its clear why they love him.

Chris Canty started to shine this year. The 25-year old defensive end had 3.5 sacks and 43 tackles. He is a restricted free agent, but is expected to sign a deal similiar to Jay Ratliff's 5 year-20 million.

Ken Hamlin, who signed a one year deal last year, has had a successful year. He had 5 interceptions, 62 tackles (45 solo) and will start in the Pro Bowl next month. That's more than enough reasons why the Cowboys should give him a contract.

Tony Curtis, the third string tight end, showed great potential earning 3 touchdowns from only 3 receptions in 2007. He also looked really good in pre-season. Being an exclusive rights free agent, he really has no say in the matter, but I'm sure he will be a Cowboy in 2008.

Defense Decision in Dallas

The Dallas Cowboys have big decisions to make today. Three defense assistant coaches could leave Dallas after today. Todd Bowles, the secondary coach; Kacy Rogers, the defensive line coach; and Paul Pasqualoni, the linebackers coach become free agents.

The three assistants did not accept the contract offered on January 13th, when the Cowboys season ended. All are close with former Cowboys coach Bill Parcells and former Cowboys assisant coach Tony Sparano, who are now running the show in Florida.

If the men choose to leave, the Cowboys will being interviewing to fill the spots this week. They do not expect any of the other coaching positions to change.

The Dream

Hello Cowboy fans, I want to say happy MLK day to everyone. I don’t care what color or creed, he fought for us all to be treated equally. He was a great man that went through so much in trying to achieve his goals for all of us. But it takes each and everyone of us to continue to work towards his goal, to be “color blind”.

Now as Cowboy fans we will also have to endure hardship this offseason. The media and newspapers will continue to question, criticize and put a negative cloud over everything that happens in Cowboy nation. From everything that happened during the season such as Romo’s trip and T.O’s  defending his quarterback, to them trying to decide on which player to blame for the second half of the Giants game. They wont stop there! Through trades, the combine, and the draft, they will be there with all of the negative thoughts and comments. Martin Luther King did not begin his dream through negative thoughts and actions, but rather very positive, seeing all his countrymen as one.  As Cowboy fans we must base our actions with the same idea as Mr. King. We stand united as Cowboy fans, the best fans in the world, for the best team in the world!

To be a true fan you stand behind your team through the good and the bad. Some would have you think this is a bad time, but I think not. This is a wonderful time to be a Cowboy fan. We have an awesome team that will only continue to be better. Jerry Jones finally has his quarterback so there is nothing he wont do to make this team better.

So I have a dream! A dream for a ring!

Rumors, Tidbits And Cowboys Draft Central

What’s up guys? Just want to give my 2 cents on some rumors and tidbits and even a little bit of reflection for the Boys. First, let me tackle this whole Pac man Jones wanting to be a Cowboy thing. This reminds me very much of how I felt when rumors first surfaced about Jerry Jones wanting Owens when he was released from Philadelphia.  At first I was very against this knowing how much T.O. had disrespected the star plus all the negative baggage he brought. Aside from that alleged suicide attempt last year, T.O. has been the ultimate teammate since he became a Cowboy. Romo even stated himself after last year’s loss to Seattle that T.O. would call him everyday after that loss to check up on him. I’m sure T.O. has kept in touch with Romo as well after the loss to the Giants last week as well and if that teary eyed T.O. defending Romo after the Giants game didn’t make you feel anything, then there’s something wrong with you. T.O. never had the off the field issues, like run ins with the law, but he was a cancer in the locker room. Looks like T.O. grew up and matured in Dallas. Then there’s the Tank Johnson signing this season. Tank did have the off the field issues plus he has even stated himself that most of his friends growing up were murdered. Tank has been the model citizen in Dallas. All I heard before the Tank signing was how wrong and detrimental to the team this would be. Now, all I hear was how god a signing this was for the Cowboys after the Ferguson injury in Week 1 against the Giants.

Now on to Pac man. Do I think the Cowboys should take a risk on a guy who loves the night life and fast women? Yes and this is why. Two words: Calvin Hill. This guy has made model citizens of both Terrell Owens and Tank Johnson. He is what most people call, Jerry Jones watch dog. This guy has done some amazing things considering the circumstances. Plus, if Pac man Jones would sign for the near minimum or some incentive laden deal, then I would be all for it. If he messed up again we could cut him and it wouldn’t affect the salary cap if at all. This is the only way I would be all for it. The guy can play football people. If you saw him play last year you know he was Tennessee’s Bob Sanders and that’s saying a lot. Plus he can return kicks. But in all likeyhood this isn’t going to happen unless the Titans release him which I believe they won’t.

Another grumbling out there is that Detroit’s Roy Williams would love nothing else but to become a Dallas Cowboy as well after his contract runs out after next season. Can you imagine T.O., T.G, Crayton and Williams in a four receiver set? DAMN!! Anyways, this isn’t going to happen people. I think Detroit will lock him up long term and I don’t think Terry Glenn will be back in Dallas next season. Another wide receivers name that has been popping up in the NFL rumor mill is Denver’s Javon Walker coming to Dallas in a draft day deal for either a 3rd or 4rth round pick. Don’t dismiss this rumor. I think this, out of all the rumors out there to be a GREAT possibility. Denver wants to get this guy out of Denver and the Cowboys have been rumored to be the team of Walker’s choice. So if it happens, remember where you heard it first.

Onto some Cowboy tidbits. I believe Dallas will sign one huge free agent this off-season. I honestly believe Dallas will sign either Marcus Trufant from Seattle or Ashante Samuel from New England and this is why. Jerry Jones is a very pissed off man as we speak. He believed, as many of us did, that this team had a great chance to compete for a championship this year. Jerry Jones stated last Monday that he has never felt as low as he did following the loss to the Giants in his 19 years as Cowboys owner. I believe Jerry to become a very imaginative and free spender this off-season and have Dallas in a prime position to be declared the early favorite come July to be Superbowl 43 Champions. Think of it guys, you think Jerry Jones hasn’t thought of the idea of opening up in 2009 at the new stadium as SuperBowl champions? If we know Jerry, don’t be surprised come March when the free-agent signing period begins.

Onto to the NFL Draft. Two words: Darren McFadden. Although this isn’t a really forgone conclusion to believe this, I believe Jerry likes, or should I say, LOVES this guy so much that this might happen. I’m going to keep this short but don’t be surprised to hear that Dallas is desperately trying to trade up in this year’s draft to get this guy. Plus having Bill Parcell’s running the war room in Miami might helps more than hurt us in trying to accomplish this. Just don’t be surprised if it happens and I for one would love to see him and Barber in a two back set. Well that’s all for now kiddies and remember, see you next Sunday. Same Cowboys time! Same Cowboys place! Same Cowboys channel!            Fredooch!

Let’s Start Cleaning House Now

Ok the Boys had their season end early again. Tony Romo has not won a playoff game and neither has Coach Phillips and I think I know why. After watching the last four games, There is no doubt in my mind that some players should be cut and sent on there merry way. I think Roy Williams, Julius Jones and most of all Andre Gurode.

I think that since the NFL put in the “Roy Williams Rule" (horse collar tackling) Roy Williams has become one of the worst safeties in pro football and he did not look like he was trying to learn to tackle.

Julius Jones is a different story, he has heart and drive but towards the end of the season he looked like he just did not care, but he will be a good asset on the trading block. This leaves us with Andre Gurode. I believe whole-heartedly that because of his performance during the Giants game was a major contribution in the Cowboys loss. This was truly something, you could see, not only was the team getting penalized for false starts you could see the frustration in Romo’s face when the ball wasn’t getting snapped to him.

So Jerry come draft day we need a center that can snap the ball, a safety who can tackle and if you could beef up that offensive line a little more.

Cowboys and Theology

You know, when you are a True Blue, Die Hard Cowboy Fan, most of the people around you just don’t seem to get it.  Those folks may support their own team, or they may even be a nominal supporter of the Cowboys, but they think your love for the team is so fanatical that it borders on being some type of mental disorder.

I have been a Cowboy fan for 35 years.  I picked the Boys as my team when I was around 5 years old.  Admittedly, I didn’t know much about football at the time but something about the Cowboys grabbed my attention.  This is made all the more interesting by the fact that no one in my family really cared about football.  I got into watching the Cowboys, and being an only child, I got my way on Sundays and was able to turn the dial to the Cowboys game.

So, I really don’t know why I became a Cowboy fan here in my home state so far away.  We didn’t have the Panthers then.  The only way I can explain my love for the Cowboys is by good old Calvinistic theology.  I think I was predestined to be a Cowboy fan.  You know - many are called, but few are chosen.  I guess I am blessed to be one of the elect.  If you’re not one of the chosen, you just won’t get it.

It was so exciting to watch them play and win.  It was devastating to see them lose. I can’t tell you how many times I cried over a Cowboy loss as a small child.  My father would look at me, shake his head, and remind me that it was only a game, but to me it seemed like so much more than that.

Over the years, as the family watched one Dallas game after another, I began to notice my father getting into it more and more. He was pretty calm during Superbowl XII when we beat the Broncos.  He was reserved during Superbowl XIII when we lost a close one to the Steelers. Me? I cried of course. But as the years went on, his interest in each game seemed to grow until in 1992, we watched Superbowl XXVII together. The Boys were awesome as they destroyed the Bills that day.  The outcome was really never in doubt. I was tearing the house down in excitement. There were great moments during that game when I looked over at my dad and, I swear to you, I could see a tear or two gleaming in his eyes. I knew at that point - he gets it.

My dad saw the Cowboys repeat in 1993 as the Cowboys once again beat the Bills in Superbowl XXVIII.  In May of 1994, he left us due to a heart attack.  I still miss watching the games with him.

I think it was D.D. Lewis who first said that they left a hole in the roof of Texas Stadium so God could look down and watch His team play football.  That statement by Lewis puts a thought in my head.  I know you never met my dad but see if you can picture this scene with me…….

It’s a Sunday afternoon, and my dad’s up there in heaven looking down through that hole in Texas Stadium. He’s got a comfortable chair, he’s wearing a jersey with number 81 on it, and there’s a bowl of fresh buttered popcorn beside him. To the other side of the popcorn, there’s another person watching the game as well - but you can’t make out who it is just yet.  The Cowboys are doing well this day and they just score another touchdown.  A vaguely familiar voice says to my dad, “I’m glad we had our popcorn ready.”  Dad smiles and turns his head toward the unknown man with the familiar voice.  For the first time I catch a glimpse of Dad’s companion.  He’s wearing a smartly tailored suit with a fedora on his head to top off the look.

As dad faces his friend he says, “You know Tom, I think they’re about to do it again.”

Now, if you’re not a die hard fan, you might think that’s a crazy idea I have. It’s ok if you don’t get it.  It’s a Cowboy thing.  Only the elect will understand.  The Cowboy fans who are among the chosen, agree with D.D. Lewis - there is football in heaven, and the heavenly fans are all decked out in blue and silver - with one exception.  There’s always that one guy watching the game in his smartly tailored suit and fedora.  Most of the time he looks quite stoic, but every now and then, if you look close, you will see just the slightest grin….

They're Gathering For A Good Old-Fashioned Pig Roast

Even though the Cowboys' body is still warm from last weekends loss to the Giants that killed any hopes for a sixth Super Bowl ring, local writers are already lining up with their pitchforks and getting ready to poke and prod at the Cowboys every chance they get.

I don't think I was able to find one article in todays papers that had anything positive to say about our beloved franchise, a franchise that puts food on most of those writers tables.

Newy Scrugs was perhaps the most critical and maybe even the most volatile as well. It seems the whole point of his article in the Star-Telegram was to drive a wedge in between head coach Wade Phillips and newly promoted assistant coach Jason Garrett. Here is what he said...

Who else runs their pro football club like this? Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones is off his rocker to make Jason Garrett the highest paid assistant coach in NFL history. It's like letting your mistress stay in the guest room. Jerry is in love with Jason Garrett, even though he's married to Wade Phillips.

Wade walked into this with his eyes wide open because Garrett was hired by the Cowboys before he was. It's Super Bowl or bust for the head coach. Win big or lose your job after '08. We all see what this looks like. Wade is just keeping the seat warm for the golden red-headed child.

You don't see any championship club in the NFL that is operating like this. Look no further to why Jones' team hasn't won a playoff game in 11 seasons.

Some brutal criticism of the Cowboys overall, and a very cheap shot at Jerry Jones! I guess we should all be prepared for a long off season loaded with plenty of criticism and no shortage of haters. The funny part is while they are good at pointing out problems, they offer no solutions of their own.

I guess I should get used to it by now, as it happens every single year. Luckily, I've never been one to put much stock in what these writers have to say. They write about the Cowboys for the money, I write about the Cowboys because I love the team.

I still believe!

Rome Wasn't Built in a Day

Well if you’re anything like me, you’re still walking into walls and stumbling around like one of Jack Nicholson’s friends in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, after that loss on Sunday. I gotta tell you though, I am more upset over football season ending than anything.
Honestly, for me, it’s more of a feeling of “What the heck is it that I do when football season is over”, because I never can remember life without football until a couple of months into the annual adjustment period. By the time I realize that I have adjusted, The Dallas Mavericks season will be in full swing and I will be excited again. There is no comparison between football and basketball, but I truly do love The Mavericks and have stuck by them from day 1. There’s a story behind that and a reason why I am a die hard Mavs fan, but I will spare you the details, for today at least.
Back to football and the Cowboys……I really am not broken hearted over The Cowboys season. I’m just not. When the season is going, no matter if it’s The Cowboys or my son’s baseball team, I will only allow myself positive thoughts and I only exude positivity. But if you want to know the truth, The Cowboys amazed me with every win. I believe this team we have right now is going to be another dynasty, but they are young and the coaches are new to the team and to each other, and it wasn’t time yet. We had more “W’s” in the win column than we actually deserved. We had some quirky wins that just weren’t strong enough to hold us until the end. Many teams improved over the season. The Cowboys improved and then flatlined midway through. I am proud that they made it as far as they did with the problems they had.
I am a natural born cheerleader in the spirit department. I sucked at gymnastics, so I never was one. Instead they asked me to start a pep squad because all my friends were cheerleaders and I was always yelling at them and the team and every one in the stands noticed me (imagine that huh?).  My point is, that I can remember being down 30 points midway through the 4th quarter (our team always sucked) and getting my squad and the cheerleaders to do these ridiculous cheers and keep the faith, when I knew in my sensible mind we were toast.
This Dallas Cowboys team is made of greatness, greatness that needs time to build. As the saying goes “Rome wasn’t built in a day”.
Romo is the leader, Owens has found his home and is leading with him. Garrett is going to be a mainstay and the real coach regardless of his title. Great things are coming. Maybe even as soon as this coming season. I am counting on that because I can see it. All I have to do is look back to 1990 and remember how horrible we looked in the record books, but still see the magic that was building between those teammates and with that man that I will love for the rest of my life, Jimmy Johnson.
So no folks, I am not sad or broken hearted. I am convinced and confident in my instincts, that these Dallas Cowboys are “Back in Town” and will make us all happy for many seasons to come. I feel it, I know it.
GO COWBOYS!!!!!
FAN 4 LIFE

STILL BLEEDING SILVER AND BLUE

I don’t need to tell you how horrible I feel. After a great first half, our Cowboys went to sleep. I don’t know what happened. What I do know is that our great season ended with a flop.

I’m not going to blame Romo for going to Mexico. Maybe the man needed to unwind. I wish I could have gone. I am going to have to side with T.O. on this one. They lost as a team.

Speaking of T.O. - for all you people that hate him and say he is a bad teammate and a locker room killer, his press conference should shut you up! I didn’t watch it as it took place. I was too upset to listen to what everybody was going to say. But when the news came on and I saw him crying, I watched. Listening to him defend Romo brought tears to my eyes. Everyone’s big complaint has been that he dumps on his quarterbacks. Yes, he went after Garcia and McNabb but I saw a grown man, a strong man, brought to tears in defense of his teammate. Listened to him protect him. Watched him stand up for him. And I was proud of him. Proud to be his fan.

So our season is over and we have to wait until next year. And I will watch the Cowboys fight for the Super Bowl again...with my popcorn.

Still bleeding silver and blue…

Superstitious

I think all fans have certain things that they do before a game. One of my friends decorate their living room with Chief memorabilia they have collected over the years. They wear their jerseys, pants and caps. They do that every game.

I did the same thing in the 80's and 90's. I was admitted to the hospital a week before the first 90's Super bowl. When I found out I had to stay there during the Super bowl I was frantic. I had a pair of lucky socks that I had worn all season. I just knew we would lose without the help of my socks. So I ask my husband to please bring them to the hospital and he did so that made me feel better. Later that evening my friends show up with a lot of my memorabilia to decorate my hospital room. It looked great. I had other patients, nurses and doctors come in to see the room. And my lucky socks worked we won. I wore those darn socks every game for the next 5 years until they were completely worn out but I couldn't throw them away so I hid them in the back of my sock drawer.

So Saturday night before the Giants game I was looking for something and ala there were my lucky socks, full of holes but, wearable.  So I figure a little more luck can't hurt right so I put them on, walk into the living room and my husband responds, "OMG! I can't believe you are going to wear those!" laughing. I know it had to look a little silly but, we needed the luck I thought. In the first half I told everybody see they are working! At the end of the game I jerked the damn things off and I think somehow over the years the luck vanished.

What I want to know is if I am the only fan that has something they consider to be lucky for game day. Do you do the same thing every game? Come on I admitted it so you can too!

Jason Garrett Will Remain in Dallas

ESPN is reporting that Offensive Coordinator and former Dallas Cowboys player Jason Garrett will be staying in Dallas. He has turned down the Atlanta and Baltimore head coaching jobs.

Owner Jerry Jones met with Garrett last night and it is believed that Jason Garrett will receive a substantial raise along with the promise that he will supercede Wade Phillips as head coach in the next couple of years.

This is great news for the Dallas Cowboys and fans alike. Garrett, once Troy Aikman's backup QB, led the offense to a record-breaking season.

Despite the rumors, I never thought Garrett would leave. He was hired before head coach was filled last offseason, and it was pretty apparent that he would eventually take over the team. His loyalty to the team and Jerry Jones has basically insured this now.

Thank You Kelly For Star Struck!!!!

" In the beginning God created the Heaven and the Earth. .............................On the 7th day God created the Dallas Cowboys and on the 8th, God created Kelly and LoneStarStruck.com for all Dallas Cowboy fans on Earth."

Ok maybe I am taking this way out of line and we all know Kelly isn't over 2,000 years old,Laughing , but I just wanted to give a big THANK YOU to Kelly here with this article. It takes a really great person and FAN or FAN-atic to do what she does. She started this here website for the enjoyment of Dallas Cowboy fans everywhere, free of charge. Running a website of this magnitude isn't easy folks. It's alot of arduous work to do what she does, plus she makes the BEST graphics out there for Dallas Cowboy fans everywhere. I have seen her Graphics all over Myspace with those distinguishing S*S logos attached to them.

I am just amazed how Kelly has time to do all of this considering Kelly has a full-time job and is a single mom just trying to make ends meet. I just wish the Dallas Cowboys organization , (You listening Jerry Jones!!!) knew how much work, effort and dedication you truly put in and day out Kelly for the Dallas Cowboys and thier fans and would somehow awknowledge you in someway because you really deserve that at the very least. You have never asked for anything from us in return and again, and I know I speak for the rest of the StarStruck Writers and Staffers that we just want to say Thank You Kelly. You truly are and epitomize in every word of the sense what a TRUE Dallas Cowboys fan is and should be. I just hope I am still on the staff when this thing not only goes nationally but on a global scale as well cause it's gonna happen. Smile So again Kelly, and I know I can't say it enough, THANK YOU!!!!!  FREDOOCH

My Cowboys

After Sunday’s game to the Giants all I could do was sit there and cry. I wasn’t crying because they lost. I was crying because I already knew what was coming. The media would have a field day with bashing the Cowboys and Tony Romo once again. They would blame Jessica Simpson and the weekend getaway to Mexico for the loss instead of blaming the team as a whole.

Marion Barber did an awesome of job of moving the ball around to allow T.O to score the first touchdown, but we cannot forget the catch that Crayton failed to catch that would have earned the Cowboys a touchdown. Needless to say my tears were shed for the disrespect that the Cowboys will continue to endure after this disheartening loss. Once again those Cowboy haters will do nothing but talk about how Romo has been hyped up by many as being one of the best quarterbacks around the league, but he has not yet won a playoff game as his record stands at 0-2.

I moved to Michigan 7 years ago but my heart will always be in Texas and with the Dallas Cowboys. After all, I was born and raised in that beautiful state that everyone calls “the friendly state” and everything is bigger in Texas, including the fans. Ya know ya can’t mess with Cowboys fans, like ya can’t mess with Texas. After moving to Michigan, many thought that my team would change and pretty soon I would be cheering for the Detroit Lions, but that has not been the case. I have been made fun of, laughed at, and even mocked for supporting my team. Never before in my life had I come across so many Dallas Cowboys haters.

In Texas all you saw were Dallas Cowboys fans, but this wasn’t the only reason I grew up loving the Cowboys. It was because they stood for something and they were not afraid to show it. A good example is Bill Bates who joined the Dallas Cowboys as a undrafted free agent and spent his 15 NFL Pro-football career there. He was a one-time Pro Bowler in 1984 as a special teams player, a spot that was basically created for him and he was also elected All-Pro that season. While with the Cowboys, he played in Super Bowls XXVIII and XXX. Who can forget that he was injured when the Cowboys played in Super Bowl XXVII. His autobiography entitled Shoot for the Star is a very inspiring and motivating story that proves that anything is possible. He had one dream and one dream only…to play for the Dallas Cowboys. He could have chosen any other team, but he chose the Cowboys. I recommend this book to all of you. Once you start reading it you won’t want to put it down.

Needless to say, I’ve been a Cowboy fan for as long as I can remember and I will continue to be, win or lose. When you are a true fan, you stick behind your team no matter what. All the negative and disrespectful comments I hear only fuel my fire for the Cowboys even more. Are we forgetting what an incredible season they had? Apparently so, because all everyone talks about is the Cowboys losses but not their wins. I am waiting patiently for the day that the Cowboys are ready to head to the Super bowl and win. I believe things happen for a reason and I do think that the Cowboys could have made their way to the Super bowl, but they were just not ready. In due time though they will be and then only then will they regain the respect they so truly deserve. After all aren’t they the only team worthy to be called “America’s Team?”

When I saw T.O. crying in his interview I cried right along with him. He proved that a grown man can cry to stand up for what he believes in, “his team.” He not only defended Tony Romo but he also defended the team. T.O. I think you’ve found your team. No other team has had this type of impact on it’s players. There’s just something about being a Dallas Cowboy.

Many ask what can be credited to the transformation of T.O? One simple answer…he is now a Dallas Cowboy. You take everything that comes with it…the love, the hate, the pride, but most of all the fans. We are the reason that the Cowboys are who they are. No other team has fans like the Dallas Cowboys. We are an elite group of people and I am so proud to be a part of it. For all those who are not Cowboys fans, it’s a shame that they cannot experince and will never have the priviledge of being a part of such an awesome group. We are all over the world supporting our team and this makes us all a part of such a wonderful family. Even though some of us will never meet, we know what lies deep in each others hearts…..Dallas Cowboys!!!

After all the crying was done I took a few moments to look back at the accomplishments that the Cowboys had this season. I was able to witness the victory over the Lions in Detroit that proved to me that they were capable of winning a game when it came down to the last seconds and play of the game. It was a close call but the Cowboys were victorious in the end. Now why couldn’t they do that Sunday against the Giants so they could advance for the rematch against the Packers?

My heart goes out to all those Cowboys fans who felt this tremendous loss. This will only make us stronger because when you are a Cowboys fan you don’t stray away from your team just because they lost. You feel their loss and it affects you emotionally also, but you pick yourself up and continue on to the next challenge. We have plenty to be thankful for and I can say that the Boys will be back next season ready to play football once again. As for me I will be where I’ve always been…cheering for my Dallas Cowboys, loud and proud. Go Cowboys!!!!!

What An Awesome Year!

I would like to start out by welcoming the newest LoneStarStruck Bloggers!! You guys are great! I look forward to reading more from you! I love seeing all these great personalities coming together in such a positive way!

As a Fan, I am proud of my favorite team. Sure, I would have liked to see them win on Sunday. I was at the stadium in the stands. The walk to my car after the game was the worst! But after I made it to the car, I realized what an awesome season I had been privilaged to witness and participate in. I LOVE ME SOME DALLAS COWBOYS and one game won't change that! I wouldn't trade my experience for love nor money.

If you would like to see my pictures from Sunday, click here! I put them in a slideshow and I hope you enjoy watching it! You can see the "White-Out" and other things I saw at the game. The one thing I didn't get a picture of was the Fox4 camera in my face! I turned around and THERE IT WAS! Whoa!! I'm a fan of Fox4 so it totally threw me off to see them standing there! LOL!

I had a fantastic time this season. I was one of only six people in Texas to be honored with the title "Ultimate Football Fan" for 2007. I proudly tote my Dr. Pepper, Wendy's and Dallas Cowboy prizes around all the time! I beat my husband in a very important fantasy game and I had ONE outstanding week predicting the games. Yes... just one but it was enough for me to tease my hubby about it for a week! HA!! I also beat a co-worker at the last minute to take the Fantasy Super Bowl win! HURRAY!!

Also, during the 2007 season, I was privilaged to join up with LoneStarStruck as part of their staff! What an honor that has been! Big thanks for welcoming me with open arms. I have enjoyed meeting all you wonderful Fans! You guys totally ROCK!!!

To the Dallas Cowboys: THANK YOU for an awesome season! I can hardly wait to see you Pre-Season '08!! If you would like to stop by sometime, FEEL FREE!! hehe! We'll throw some steaks on the grill and toss around the skin!! Hey, you can't blame a girl for tryin', right?

To the Fans: YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME!! You stuck to the game plan Sunday and did an outstanding job supporting your team with noise at all the right times! I was so excited to be a part of that!

HOW 'BOUT THEM COWBOYS!?

January 15, 2008

Proud to be a Dallas Cowboy

Terrell Owens, Dallas Cowboy.  San Francisco 49er.  Philadelphia Eagle.

DALLAS COWBOY.

On March 18, 2006, When it was announced that wide receiver Terrell Owens had been signed to the Dallas Cowboys for a 3 year, $25 million dollar contract, I was floored with many feelings.  Mostly fear.  This is the man who (arguably) single handedly destroyed two NFL franchises, degraded his quarterback in both cases, and left on bad terms both times. I was so afraid, that this was a bull in a china shop, a time bomb that had been passed off to the team I hold so sacred and dear to my heart, only left to detonate at any moment destroying my beloved Dallas Cowboys. I knew the media hype already LOVED us so much, this could only make it better. I tried to imagine the media circus we were facing. Needless to say I was not happy that this man, the man who cared only about himself, whose ego was bigger than his paycheck, would be joining my team.

That man was not present this Sunday. The genuine tears in his eyes spoke to my heart. Over the years, Terrell Owens has established himself as "flash", a greedy individual whose only concern was winning and big contracts.  He carried so much baggage with him from town to town, that it became more difficult each time to take his word.  Nearly two years later, I feel proud to call Terrell Owens a Dallas Cowboy.  None of us were in the locker room at any point this season, or last, so we can't possibly fathom, but the transformation T.O. has undergone is utterly amazing.

I truly believe that when Terrell gave his statement at the end of Sunday's game, words have never flown more freely from his heart.  As he spoke, it was clear that he stood not for himself, not for a winning season.  He stood for the Dallas Cowboys.  At the beginning of the season T.O. said something to Tony Romo that I never thought I would hear from such a man.  "I am because you are. You are because I am." The Terrell Owens that stood before us and cried for the sake of his teammate and friend on Sunday, is not the T.O. who made waves in Philly. He is not the same T.O. who rubbed Jeff Garcia the wrong way. The product of environment?  Maybe. A new outlook on life? Possible.  But the way I see it, with as much talent and heart as that man garners, I am PROUD to call Terrell Owens a Dallas Cowboy.

Moving on to Skip Bayless. I'm not sure how many of you caught his enlightening and insightful interview Monday, but man oh man what a commentator.  It is very clear every time Skip talks that he has a genuine distaste for America's team. For him to say the words, "Dallas Cowboys" looks as if it almost makes him cringe each time. Look, I get it, you don't like the Cowboys. But give it a rest! We know you don't like the Cowboys, and that's ok...more people to add to the list of thanks when we finally do hoist the Lombardi Trophy!

According to Skip, Terrell Owens was anything but genuine in his post game remarks, and his 'acting' skills were laughable. This is further proof that once you establish a history, or 'Track Record' rather, it is difficult, if not impossible to get away from ever. What hope does the rest of the world have, if change is impossible? All I wanted to do in this part of the article is everything I could to debunk Skip Bayless. Skip is a joke, and in order to be a good commentator, you have to climb off your high horse jealous track of the greatest team in the nation and get over it.

I am a Dallas Cowboys fan.  I love the Dallas Cowboys, and as long as I live I will forever defend my coaches, my owner and my teammates. And Terrell Owens is on the top of that list.

I Am Won Over

Anyone that knows me knows that I didn't want the Cowboys to pick up TO. I was one of those fans that could not forgive him for the star incident! I just could not let it go. Even when he made touchdowns at the first of the season I had mixed feeling about it.

As the season progressed I saw him becoming a Cowboy. I saw him being a leader on the sidelines. He and Romo have this connection that is amazing! But hard headed me still could not let it go, I still saw a little of that Eagle green on him.  Game by game we saw him making touchdowns with class, giving the ball to fans you can't get better than that.

The green started to fade just a little, but after Sunday's heartbreaking loss the man with class, Mr. Terrell Owens, won me over completely! When I watched his interview I cried right along with him as he defended his QB. The emotion he showed made me see him as all Cowboy and the green was gone. I can't believe I am writing this and I am so happy that all those bad feelings are gone. So I guess this is another good thing that came with the loss.

Cowboy Fans stay true because we had a great season and we have so much to look forward to next season!

We Lost As a Team

Cowboys fans across the world have to be amazed at the way Terrell Owens showed his emotions for the team he loves.  I have to admit, when he was first picked up by Jerry and the Boys, I second guessed that decision.  After not only last night, but the past two seasons, he has showed he's found his TEAM!  Terrell Owens was born to be a Dallas Cowboy, he wants to be a champion, he strives for the best at all times, and he respects his teamates and coaches.... ya I said Terrell Owens not T.O.

Last night that's who I witnessed stand up for his teamate, his Quarterback, who he knows is going to be the scapegoat for the bad ending to our season.  I cried with him, with no hesitation, and for the first time was able to say 100% that I am a BIG Terrell Owens fan and I'm proud to have him bear the Star on his helmet.

His actions not only brought the team closer, but fans as well. Terrell Owens we love you and keep doing what your doing. Cowboys, thank you for the year of great memories. Fans we have a lot to look forward to in the years to come so hold on tight for the ride. Front-runners will be lost in the wind and the TRUE BLUE nation will stand together.

How to find Perspective in Total Darkness

Hey LoneStarStruckers,

This is Fred or Fredooch or whatever you want to call me. I am devastated as I am sure most of us are. Our Dallas Cowboys lost to the hated NY Giants. I will give respect where respect is due. Congrats Giants. You beat us fair and square. I am not going to sit here and make excuses for the way the Boys played. We had 60 minutes of football to prove we were the better team and we failed. So again my congrats.

Earlier I made some references to needing a change due to the fact that a 13-3 team shouldn't lose in a divisional round. Even though I still believe that, I now can't wait for the first preseason game next season. These next few months will be hard to swallow but we will be okay. The sad thing is that I never would of imagined this being a team that would be scratching their heads thinking that they couldn't believe they lost to the Giants after beating them twice this past season. But enough of the Giants and enough of this season. Its over and there's nothing you and I can do about it.

So how does one find perspective in total darkness? Well for one, it was a great and fun season. There were highlights this season that will be replayed 20 years from now. Like when Romo had that bad snap against the Rams and turned a 35 yard loss into a 6 yard first down for example. Or when Nick Folk hit that 52 yard field goal against Buffalo on that Monday Night game back in October. There were many memorable plays this season so thanks Dallas Cowboys.

Thank you Tony Romo for giving us fans one of the greatest seasons any Dallas Cowboy QB has ever had. Thank you Marion Barber for giving us everything you had every time you touched that ball. Thank you Jason Witten for catching all those clutch 3rd down catches and becoming the All-Pro TE we all knew you already were. Thank You Terrell Owens for being the game changer and TEAMMATE you have been since you became a Dallas Cowboy. That post-game interview last night where T.O. cried defending his QB made me order a T.O. jersey from the Dallas Cowboys online Pro Shop.

Thank you Dallas O-Line for blocking and protecting all season long and deservedly so, having three Pro Bowlers on that line. Thank you Dallas D-Line for all of your big plays this season. Thank you Demarcus Ware for becoming the pass rushing beast you have become. Thank you Greg Ellis for becoming the professional and pass rusher we knew you always were. Thank you Dallas corners & safeties for all those big plays and clutch interceptions. Thank you Dallas LB's for all those run stuffs and QB Sacks.

Thank you Nick Folk for finally giving us some consistency on field goals and that clutch kick against Buffalo. Thank you Matt McBriar for another great season pinning opponents on the other side of the 50. Thank you Wade Phillips and the rest of the coaching staff for those 13 wonderful game plans. So Thank You all Dallas Cowboys listed and unlisted here for a great season but an awful end.

So its roughly 7 months 'til the start of training camp. Its gonna be a long and arduous wait. I have been a Dallas Cowboy Fan-atic since birth so bear with me if I am taking this loss a little too personal and hard.

As my friend Jorge stated to me earlier in a myspace bulletin he wrote, "And for you guys that say "Why do you care about Dallas Cowboys"? Hey, it is a primitive instinct to want to belong to a clan. We (fans) adopt a team, and in the psychological aspect of things.... We feel as we are part of that clan (favorite team). I know, it might sound stupid, but they (Cowboys) are like family. When you grow up watching a team for so many years.... they are in a way just part of your life." I couldn't have said it better myself Jorge.

Thats how to find Perspective in Total Darkness.

COWBOYS WILL WIN SUPERBOWL 43!!!!!!! GUARANDAMNTEED!!!!!!!!!

These Cowboy Colors Don't Run

Once a Cowboys fan, always a Cowboys fan. There's nothing to be ashamed of. We had a stellar season (the best in franchise history), found a new franchise running back (Marion Barber) and a new coach who WILL lead us to the bowl in the next year or so. Despite ravaging penalties throughout the game and an explosive Giants defense, I feel we played an excellent game.

There is nothing to be ashamed of, and the better team won. The better team ON THAT DAY. I feel like Marion Barber played his heart out, as did Tony Romo, Terrell Owens, and the rest of the crew. Don't listen to the hype, because there will be a plethora of it surrounding America's Team, and don't get discouraged.

Our season starts in approximately 6 months, and that's where we are as fans. Let me remind you all again, this is not a losing season, and our pride should not diminish whatsoever. We are the BEST team in 2008, and we are undisputably the favorite to win the Super Bowl in 2008, (save that of the Patriots, who prove that the only way to win is to deal with the devil).

I have no qualms with the way things went that fateful Sunday, and I wish the PACKERS the best. As this is my first column, I'll keep it short, but in closing I have to remind Cowboys fans this: We will all be there for next season's kickoff in Texas Stadium, and it can only get better from here.  GO COWBOYS!!!!

Always A True Cowboys Fan

I know that today's loss to the division rivals has everyone completely distraught. Honestly I am speechless, but I know that I should say something and give everyone a place to get things off their chests.

This hurts. After a record-breaking season filled with such promise and hope, the season comes crashing down. Someone had to lose, and you can argue many reasons why we were the ones that had to say goodbye. But I think rather than count the 'ifs', maybe we should look back at the season.

What a wonderful year. Its been a blast. Think about it. Look at Jason Witten, what a year he had. Remember the helmetless run! We could learn alot from that warrior. I guarantee he will hold his head high and not look back at the mistakes, but learn from them and move forward.

Terrell Owens had a wonderful year as well. Marion Barber had a hell of a year, and really a wonderful first half in his first game as a starter. We found a kicker we can finally trust. And we learned we have many offense weapons.

Take a look at the young defense we have. DeMarcus Ware, oh what a beast! Then you throw in Chris Canty and Bradie James, the future looks bright. These guys are only going to develop. Greg Ellis, the sack monster, had a shocking year and went home with an award he can be damn proud of. We have great things to look forward to in years to come.

I know that Tony Romo is going to take a lot of criticism. He's now 0-2 in the postseason and some may question his abilities and his big contract. But I wont give up on him. It was his first year as a starter. He started off with a bang, and continued to break records and collect wins.

But somewhere in the last part of the season it began to dwindle down. I dont know why, I dont know how, but it did.

I truly believe he has a gift. If he can overcome this, he will be even better next year. What doesn't kill you, only makes you stronger.

This team has come a long way. Some may even call it a rebuilding year. A new head coach, many new staff members, a new quarterback.... the list goes on. I'm sure we will pick the season apart for weeks to come. But it won't change the outcome.

The season ended today but our love for the greatest team in the country - America's team, the Dallas Cowboys - did not end. Hold your head high, wear your colors proudly.

STAY TRUE TO THE SILVER AND BLUE!

God Bless,

Kelly

GAME PREVIEW: GIANTS @ COWBOYS

Giants (11-6) vs. Cowboys (13-3)  Sunday, January 13, 3:30 PM CT on FOX

Divisional Round Preview:

The Dallas Cowboys look to complete the hat trick and beat the New York Giants for the 3rd time this year when they square off at Texas Stadium in the Divisional Round of the playoffs.  They have never accomplished this feat before.  The one chance that they did have, they lost to the Arizona Cardinals in the 1998 Wild-Card Round of the Playoffs. The Cowboys are looking for their 1st playoff victory since 1996.  With a win against the Giants, the Cowboys would snap a drought of over a decade without a playoff victory and would face the Green Bay Packers in the Championship Game, who crushed Seattle 42-20 in the snow at Lambeau Field earlier Saturday.

This definitely won't be easy with all of the confidence that the Giants have been playing with, but while the Giants will be missing some key components, the Cowboys have no one that will be out for this game, and with the rest that they have had, should be able to take advantage of it, despite the sloppy end to the season.

One key to the Dallas Cowboys' success against the Giants has been keeping him on his feet and giving him time to find his open receivers.  The Cowboys' offensive line allowed just 2 sacks against a Giants defense that led the league in sacks this year.  Dallas will need to continue this trend to be successful in this game, otherwise it could be a long day for Romo and company.

A lot has been made about Tony Romo and Jessica Simpson and how it affects Romo's performance.  Now it's the fact that Terrell Owens might not be at 100%.  That shouldn't matter even if he's not.  In the 2 games against the Giants this year, Terrell Owens has caught 9 passes for 212 yards and 4 TD's.  Look for this trend to continue, and now that Romo finally has all of his targets to throw to, the offense should get back on track, despite their struggles late in the season.  Terry Glenn will prove to be the X-Factor in the Cowboys offense in this game.  With this being only his 2nd game of the season, missing the 1st 15 with a knee issue, if he can get into the game and draw coverage his way, it should leave Terrell Owens and Jason Witten in a lot of one-on-one situations and really open up the passing game.

Marion Barber III will get the start in place of Julius Jones in this game, a move that many Cowboys fans have been calling for most of this season.  Look for this to be a crucial factor in the game, especially with a rested and healthy offensive line.  This will also help dramatically in setting up the passing game.

Starting wide receiverTerrell Owens is listed as questionable with his ankle sprain, but is expected to play.  Starting center Andre Gurode (knee) practiced fully on Friday is listed as probable, as is wide receiver Terry Glenn (knee).

GO COWBOYS!!!!!

Cowboys Look to Quiet Critics

It's finally here.  The day Cowboys fans everywhere have been waiting for.  The day the Cowboys prove all the critics wrong yet again and beat the Giants for the third time this season.

The critics have been on the prowl the last couple weeks.  In fact, I'd venture to say they stepped their game up a notch.  Everything under the sun was used to prove the Cowboys had no chance of winning today.

Tony Romo didn't play well down the stretch.  And his mind defini
