Today Is D-Day For Ken Hamlin And The Cowboys

The clock keeps ticking on negotiations between the Dallas Cowboys and safety Ken Hamlin.

Both sides have until 3:00 PM (CDT) to hammer out a deal and get something done. The fact that it has taken so long and come to this has been pretty frustrating for me personally because I'm a big Ken Hamlin fan. He had a fine season for us and earned his first trip to the Pro Bowl. His hard-hitting style and his ability to get great reads made him exciting to watch. The declining skills of Roy Williams were easier to absorb because of Hamlin. We need him to show up to training camp happy and with a good attitude.

I urge Jerry Jones to do what he can to sign Hamlin now before time runs out and the team is forced to suspend any further negotiations until AFTER the upcoming season. Once the deadline passes, Hamlin will have to play this season for the one-year, $4.396 million tender he will receive for being tabbed as a franchise player. After that, he becomes a free agent.

Hamlin has not participated in any of the team's off-season practices and mini-camps.

Hopefully, we'll get some good news on this front by the end of the day. What ever happens, he'll still be a Cowboy and of course that's good, but I would rather that he does not return as a disgruntled player.
