My Cowboys

After Sunday’s game to the Giants all I could do was sit there and cry. I wasn’t crying because they lost. I was crying because I already knew what was coming. The media would have a field day with bashing the Cowboys and Tony Romo once again. They would blame Jessica Simpson and the weekend getaway to Mexico for the loss instead of blaming the team as a whole.

Marion Barber did an awesome of job of moving the ball around to allow T.O to score the first touchdown, but we cannot forget the catch that Crayton failed to catch that would have earned the Cowboys a touchdown. Needless to say my tears were shed for the disrespect that the Cowboys will continue to endure after this disheartening loss. Once again those Cowboy haters will do nothing but talk about how Romo has been hyped up by many as being one of the best quarterbacks around the league, but he has not yet won a playoff game as his record stands at 0-2.

I moved to Michigan 7 years ago but my heart will always be in Texas and with the Dallas Cowboys. After all, I was born and raised in that beautiful state that everyone calls “the friendly state” and everything is bigger in Texas, including the fans. Ya know ya can’t mess with Cowboys fans, like ya can’t mess with Texas. After moving to Michigan, many thought that my team would change and pretty soon I would be cheering for the Detroit Lions, but that has not been the case. I have been made fun of, laughed at, and even mocked for supporting my team. Never before in my life had I come across so many Dallas Cowboys haters.

In Texas all you saw were Dallas Cowboys fans, but this wasn’t the only reason I grew up loving the Cowboys. It was because they stood for something and they were not afraid to show it. A good example is Bill Bates who joined the Dallas Cowboys as a undrafted free agent and spent his 15 NFL Pro-football career there. He was a one-time Pro Bowler in 1984 as a special teams player, a spot that was basically created for him and he was also elected All-Pro that season. While with the Cowboys, he played in Super Bowls XXVIII and XXX. Who can forget that he was injured when the Cowboys played in Super Bowl XXVII. His autobiography entitled Shoot for the Star is a very inspiring and motivating story that proves that anything is possible. He had one dream and one dream only…to play for the Dallas Cowboys. He could have chosen any other team, but he chose the Cowboys. I recommend this book to all of you. Once you start reading it you won’t want to put it down.

Needless to say, I’ve been a Cowboy fan for as long as I can remember and I will continue to be, win or lose. When you are a true fan, you stick behind your team no matter what. All the negative and disrespectful comments I hear only fuel my fire for the Cowboys even more. Are we forgetting what an incredible season they had? Apparently so, because all everyone talks about is the Cowboys losses but not their wins. I am waiting patiently for the day that the Cowboys are ready to head to the Super bowl and win. I believe things happen for a reason and I do think that the Cowboys could have made their way to the Super bowl, but they were just not ready. In due time though they will be and then only then will they regain the respect they so truly deserve. After all aren’t they the only team worthy to be called “America’s Team?”

When I saw T.O. crying in his interview I cried right along with him. He proved that a grown man can cry to stand up for what he believes in, “his team.” He not only defended Tony Romo but he also defended the team. T.O. I think you’ve found your team. No other team has had this type of impact on it’s players. There’s just something about being a Dallas Cowboy.

Many ask what can be credited to the transformation of T.O? One simple answer…he is now a Dallas Cowboy. You take everything that comes with it…the love, the hate, the pride, but most of all the fans. We are the reason that the Cowboys are who they are. No other team has fans like the Dallas Cowboys. We are an elite group of people and I am so proud to be a part of it. For all those who are not Cowboys fans, it’s a shame that they cannot experince and will never have the priviledge of being a part of such an awesome group. We are all over the world supporting our team and this makes us all a part of such a wonderful family. Even though some of us will never meet, we know what lies deep in each others hearts…..Dallas Cowboys!!!

After all the crying was done I took a few moments to look back at the accomplishments that the Cowboys had this season. I was able to witness the victory over the Lions in Detroit that proved to me that they were capable of winning a game when it came down to the last seconds and play of the game. It was a close call but the Cowboys were victorious in the end. Now why couldn’t they do that Sunday against the Giants so they could advance for the rematch against the Packers?

My heart goes out to all those Cowboys fans who felt this tremendous loss. This will only make us stronger because when you are a Cowboys fan you don’t stray away from your team just because they lost. You feel their loss and it affects you emotionally also, but you pick yourself up and continue on to the next challenge. We have plenty to be thankful for and I can say that the Boys will be back next season ready to play football once again. As for me I will be where I’ve always been…cheering for my Dallas Cowboys, loud and proud. Go Cowboys!!!!!

Exciting Times in Cowboy Land

Thinking back to the past few seasons and comparing them with this season, the thing I'm most excited about as I watch the Dallas Cowboys is THEIR excitement! I cannot tell you how great it is as a fan to watch my Cowboys play with actual smiles on their faces, and not just the players - the coaches too. How great is it to see the Cowboys score a touchdown or make a good play and, as the cameras pan over to Wade Phillips, to see him literally jumping for joy and giving high-fives (sometimes painful ones) to his football team?

Not to take anything away from any of our talented, well-known past coaches, who will remain nameless, (starts with P - ends with arcells) but come ON now? So much of how our guys feel is a direct reflection from the men on the sidelines who hold so much of the power.

I don't know about you, but I feel good when I'm around people who seem happy and excited and I feel bad when I'm around people who suck the positivity out of the atmosphere. It's easier for our guys to have fun when the coaching staff shows excitement and gives proper attention to good plays and touchdowns.

It's so nice to see the Dallas Cowboys winning, but to me it's even better to see them winning and having fun! They are happy to be on the field and doing what they love, scoring points, and making great plays. Give credit to all the coaches on the sidelines for providing a great atmosphere, and motivating the team so that they can play and perform beyond their expectations.

Personally, I REALLY want our guys to go to the Super Bowl and winning another ring would be fantastic. But honestly, I feel like I can wait for the huge accolades because I'm having so much fun as a fan again. I want this feeling to last forever! Long live the Cowboys and cheers to our Boys having fun on the football field again!

Three Phrases of the Game

To be a champion caliber team you must be consistent in all phrases of the game. We all know about Dallas's offense, Tony Romo with all his weapons, Barber and Jones's running attack behind our fantastic offensive line. The defense is getting more respect and recognition as they improve every week (not counting the Lions game.) Phrase three is Special teams. I don't feel like our kick return team gets the credit they deserve.

Miles Austin in his second year makes you sit on the edge of your seat every time he gets the ball. His long return is sixty yards. I just know he is going to break one all the way. Austin is averaging twenty-six yards on eighteen returns.

Tyson Thompson shows he is a talent with his return ability also. Tyson's average is a little lower than Austin's at twenty-three.six, but his long return is seventy-two yards.

I look forward to seeing rookie Isaiah Stanback come back from his injury. I have to agree with the Cowboy staff that Stanback is exciting to watch. His long kick return is thirty-five yards but he has only had three returns with a average of twenty-six yards.

Between these three and more recently Miles Austin, the Cowboys have had good field position on most possessions. Of course, it would be a dream come true if we only had punt returns meaning our defense didn't allow a score! WOW!

With Patrick Crayton and Terence  Newman returning punts, we haven't had stunning returns but, they average twelve yards per return that equals our opponents. Even though we haven't returned a punt or kick return for a score with all the talent we have on special teams it will come. They are saving it for the playoffs!

Although special teams need to improve in some areas they show improvement each week just as the offense and defense.

What I respect about the 2007 Cowboys is the way coach Phillips has blended all three phases to work together as a team. The media and fans shine the light on certain players but, they know that it takes every player in the locker room to win and that is why we are the NFC East Champs!

Kid In A Candy Store

When you see children shopping in the toy department of your favorite store, you see their eyes light up, a smile spreads across their face, and you can feel their happiness and excitement. I told my husband that I wish I was a kid again as we watched the kids showing us their wish list. I realized we are only children once.

As adults we have so much going on in our lives, raising our kids, making our bills each month, pleasing our bosses and the list goes on and on, with all these responsibilities it is hard to take the time to see little things in our lives that are there everyday we just overlook them.

In October, my family and I went to the Tulsa State Fair. While we were watching the kids having fun on the rides my nephew covered my eyes, as he lifted his hands he told me to look straight ahead. I couldn't believe it, before in the distance was a Dallas Cowboy semi-truck and trailer. Something you don't see often in Oklahoma. I was excited to see that famous blue and silver logo on the truck but, as we walked around the cab of the truck I realized the trailer was made into a Pro-Shop! I was in heaven!

Anything you could want Dallas Cowboy's was there, Romo jerseys, foam fingers, t-shirts, pens, baby bottles, posters, key chains and autographed pictures. The entire trailer was packed full of items. I wanted one of everything, of course I had spent most of my money on corn dogs, so I couldn't afford much. I settled for a couple of things and carried them around proudly all day at the Fair. I even forgot about my family standing behind me with smiles on their faces as they watched me.

My husband told me I looked like a kid in a candy store. Right then I realized, wow - we can feel like kids again. All we have to do is notice all the things that make us happy in life. I know for all of us one of those things is definitely our NFC EAST CHAMPS DALLAS COWBOYS!

Even Troy Agrees That Romo Is Among The Elite

The Cowboys will be in D-Town to face the Lions on their home turf, Ford Field. Last year the Cowboys almost beat the Lions on December 31, 2006, but the Lions won 39-31 at Texas Stadium. This was the last game of the season, and after once being 8-4 and riding a four-game winning streak, the Cowboys limped to the regular-season finish line, winning one of the last four games and finishing with a 9-7 record for the second straight year. But unlike last season, at least the Cowboys aren't completely finished....

They've had an awesome season thus far with the help of Wade Phillips. The chemistry has been phenomenal and just like last year the Cowboys are heading into the playoffs once again. Only this time they have finally gained the respect they deserve. They've proven to everyone that they are and will always be America's team!

With an incredible record of 11-1 this season, and the only loss they had was to the spy cheating Patriots. Nothing would satisfy me more than watching my Boys take on the Patriots one more time for a head to head match up. Oh, wouldn't that be sweet!

Have you heard what Troy Aikman recently said about Tony Romo?

When it comes to analyzing great quarterbacks, there aren't many who do it better than Troy Aikman. After all, he was one for more than a decade. So when Aikman is ready to put another quarterback into the category of "great," it carries more weight than the average guy. And on the subject of Tony Romo, Aikman has simply seen enough.

The Cowboys Hall of Fame and Ring of Honor legend was at Valley Ranch on Thursday and will call Sunday's game between the Cowboys and Lions (noon, CST) for Fox. Aikman spoke on several NFL topics, but the conversation kept going back to Romo.

Not only is Aikman ready to place the greatness tag on Romo, but he doesn't understand why Romo's name isn't mentioned more with Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. Here is what he said...

"Over the last several weeks, there's always the debate - who do you take, Brady or Manning?" Aikman said. "Somewhere in there is Tony Romo... why is anyone reluctant to put Romo up there with those guys?"

"He's playing at as good a level as anyone in the league. Granted, you have to do it over a period of time. I get that part. But he's a terrific player."

Romo is having an even better season. In fact, he's on pace to have the best season in Cowboys history, as far as statistics. One might argue that a season should only be judged on the outcome at the end, but even Aikman said it's hard to argue with what Romo is doing this season. He has already shattered Danny White's single-season touchdown record of 29, by piling up 33 touchdowns with four games still left to play.

Most important, Aikman said he doesn't expect the Cowboys to lose another game in the regular season, which would give them an unprecedented 15-1 record. The Cowboys have never finished better than their 13-3 record in 1992, Aikman's first of three Super Bowl seasons in a four-year span.

All the signs point to Tony Romo having the best season of any Cowboys quarterback, and Troy Aikman certainly agrees.

I will be at the game on Sunday and I am counting on all of you my friends to cheer our Cowboys on and make some noise...and ya better get ya popcorn ready!!

Go Cowboys!!!

Whoooopeee!!! Jump On The Romomania Nutty A-Go-Go Bandwagon!!!

Howdy Cowboy Country! Hi Mom!

Okay, my crystal ball and I are going to take a nap soon... But, I would be remiss if I forgot to spread some major Romo Love to all the legions of Romomaniacs flocking to join us here at America's Team cult-hero headquarters of all things Romomagical.

In case you were still unsure, the answer is yes. Yes, he really really is the new messiah who will be majestically leading us all to the silver gates of the New Jerusalem being built down the road off Tom Landry Highway in good ol' Arlington. And, if Jerry forks over the cash soon.. we'll go ahead and order a Papa John's Pizza, switch back to Ma' Bell or AT&T, throw back a few ice cold Diet Pepsi's, AND call Jerry a prophet simply to make him feel real good. I sure hope Jerry chooses to wait until after the Romo Super Bowl Victory Party in a few months to give him that whopping 99 Million dollars a year he's gonna obviously deserve. Luv ya Jerry!

Anyways, perhaps Big Bill should get all the credit for bein' the honey and locust eatin' type wilderness dude for making "the change" against the Giants last year? No way.

Should that be Saint Sean's moniker? Nah, he's sort of a Judas-type so we will go-ahead and write him out of the Romo mythology for now. We can always throw him back in there somewhere later on.

Want to know a big secret? The credit for all things Romo is .... shhhhhhhh! Gil Brandt.

All I can say is "alien spacecraft" and "Mexico City". You do the math.

Okay, I'll tell you more. You see, Gil did all this kinda weird, cool stuff on a government issued MAC pc in October of 1977, then again in February of 1980 with Schramm and Landry attending in the old Valley Ranch "War Room", and then again earlier this year from some remote wireless laptop location outside "The Ranch" in Las Colinas, adjacent to a declassified canal zone "area" somewhere near that funky monorail off 114 between Texas Stadium and DFW Airport. Look, I don't ask questions okay? I'm just glad he's alive to see it all come to fruition. Amazing!

Oh well, before the Exodus from Irving to Arlington begins, we do get to see a lot more Romomagic for 2 more seasons at ol' Texas Stadium. Tony is officially now - a lock for the future.

It is written...

Romomania
Romofever
Romomojo
Romomagic

Romo - Superman? Did you catch that? (Madden works at the Daily Planet as a ghostwriter part-time) He KNOWS Superman.

Glad Superman wears #9 and a cool star on his helmet when he's just goofin' around with the football.

Hey! Somebody put back up that funny pseudo- " 9 TONY ROMO " Ring Of Honor banner thingy in Texas Stadium!

I'm NOT joking. Whomever that ballsy, creative, luxury box- pimpin' visionary is ... whoever you are, I sincerely request you put it right back up!

Don't worry cause I talked to Jerry, he's all cool with it. Hurry.

I would like to congratulate Mr. Owens.
That's right. Mister.
Way to go T.O. !!!
Hey, fellow DFW media dorks. I'm calling YOU dweebs out.
Recognize.
T.O. is a Cowboy. A productive, exciting Cowboy.

Owens has proven to me he is passionate and sincere about his involvement and role.

He has heart, superstar skill, style and may I dare say class?

Ever heard his interviews? Lately? Has T.O. just been misunderstood all this time?

Or is he happy and wiser? Well, for whatever reason, he has been as controversial as a mute monk

sleeping, while receiving nothing but a very bad rap ever since the moment he got here.

He isn't going anywhere anymore. Nuff said.

Thanks Jerry for not "listening" to all the local media brainiacs who demanded Owens departure this off season.

I never quite got all that?
Regardless, T.O. is for real okay? Back off. Breathe. Applaud.

Write something positive about the player for a change.

I guess nobody has any choice as the stats are now simply way too revealing for anyone to dare challenge T.O.'s worthiness to wear the star.

(BTW check out T.O.'s "personal" column/blog online at the startle~gram after EVERY game- really good stuff! Trust me.)

And, guess what? The legendary Doomsday Defense is baaack!

Also, Baby Bum and Garrett get the "Game Ball" for superb, gutsy play calling.
Going for it like they did on 4th proves they trust, respect, and now believe in Tony.

Hey Hester. You know um Hes, I know Deion Sanders personally. And um Hester, you're NO Neon Deion! So Romo's over-hyped huh? Gee Whiz.

The Boys SHUT him down and hopefully up for at least a little while.

Hey, for a real good quality laugh, (hahahaha!!!) - check this out from my ding-dong Chicago Tribune archrival: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/chi-newdowney23sep23,1,448458.story send him a few comments for me PLEASE! Ha! Good Times.

Hey Downey, how about us Cowpokes settle for just being perhaps a lil' overly content? :-)

Yeah, it's still so very early. But, this potentially glorious season promises to be memorable at the very least.

Admit it Downey, joyrides with everyone here on the new and improved- Super Duper Romomania Bandwagon is Cowboy bliss!

Romo! Romo! Romo!

All Aboard !!!!!!!

Rex Vs. Romo? You Make The Call!

Hello my name is David. But you can call me Rubini. Yes, I'm the new kid in town.

I would like to officially welcome you to the first installment of my thoughts and predictions on your favorite team.. rather "our" favorite team - "America's Team", the beloved Dallas Cowboys. Please keep in mind that we all thrive off commentary. I enjoy, welcome and encourage passionate feedback. Positive or negative. Go for it! Voice your opinion and let's have fun this year! Cool? Alright!!

When it comes to this Sundays match-up between the Cowboys and Bears, there are many uncanny similarities and many major differences between the two quarterbacks. We all must thank heaven and thank our lucky blue and silver stars concerning the latter!

Both QB's are in their 5th season. Both play in the NFC Conference, and both are the captains driving the ship of a well oiled playoff team with realistic goals to win a Super Bowl this year after a disappointing and anticlimactic 2006-2007 season.

And that's where the coincidences and similarities sharply appear to die.

Romo is simply a superior quarterback. From what we have seen thus far, Tony seems to have truly "learned" a bit  from last years remarkable (yet heartbreaking) rags to riches to rags melodrama. This year, Romo seems much more poised and in control as he isn't forcing anything when the offensive line crumbles or when coverage is too tight. He may take a sack, or he may even run and scramble for a gain? But Romo isn't throwing silly interceptions like his Chicago rival Rex or like Tony himself did towards the end of last season.

I like the fact too that "Baby Bum" (term of endearment) and Garrett are willing to let Romo "loose" to improvise. Unfortunately, Big Bill last year was the one who felt it absolutely necessary to negate Tony the freedom to run and create. He was putting away the anointing oil when perhaps he should have put in an order for  some more?

Romo's a gifted scrambler ala the original Cowboys "Dodger" Roger Staubach. Romo doesn't ever need to be caged up again as that would only kill his spirit and eventually his effectiveness. Wade and Garrett get Romo. They understand Romo better than I ever could have imagined! Along with Garrett's new, fresh approach to handling Romo the new poised, "controlled" gunslinger, we should see plenty of all the cool, electrifying, fun stuff that comes so naturally to Tony.

And unlike Rex in either 06' or now in 07', Romo again has the command and the respect of his teammates. That's huge! And once again, Romo has recaptured the rest of the NFL's respect at large. Rex may have led his Chicago Bears team to the big enchilada last year, but this year there are even more questions than there are answers when it comes to Grossman. The stats speak for themselves.

In Dallas' last two victories, Romo threw for 531 yds, with 6 TD's and just one pick and a passing rating ranked 2nd in the league. Grossman on the other hand, has just barely over 300 yds with 3 picks, one lousy touchdown pass, and is sitting on a rating that ranks at nearly the very bottom of all QB's both in the NFC and the AFC.

Romo should positively give last years NFC champs a major headache up in the Windy City at Soldier Field.

With a big win against the Bears this Sunday, expect the Romomania bandwagon to get extremely crowded once again. I'll save you a spot next to the window.

What's your opinion? Does Rex have a 300 yard game in him to beat The Boys on his home turf? Will Romo shine once again on primetime television and live up to all the growing hype? Let us know your thoughts!

My Prediction:   Cowboys 31    Bears 24
