Proud to be a Dallas Cowboy

Terrell Owens, Dallas Cowboy.  San Francisco 49er.  Philadelphia Eagle.

DALLAS COWBOY.

On March 18, 2006, When it was announced that wide receiver Terrell Owens had been signed to the Dallas Cowboys for a 3 year, $25 million dollar contract, I was floored with many feelings.  Mostly fear.  This is the man who (arguably) single handedly destroyed two NFL franchises, degraded his quarterback in both cases, and left on bad terms both times. I was so afraid, that this was a bull in a china shop, a time bomb that had been passed off to the team I hold so sacred and dear to my heart, only left to detonate at any moment destroying my beloved Dallas Cowboys. I knew the media hype already LOVED us so much, this could only make it better. I tried to imagine the media circus we were facing. Needless to say I was not happy that this man, the man who cared only about himself, whose ego was bigger than his paycheck, would be joining my team.

That man was not present this Sunday. The genuine tears in his eyes spoke to my heart. Over the years, Terrell Owens has established himself as "flash", a greedy individual whose only concern was winning and big contracts.  He carried so much baggage with him from town to town, that it became more difficult each time to take his word.  Nearly two years later, I feel proud to call Terrell Owens a Dallas Cowboy.  None of us were in the locker room at any point this season, or last, so we can't possibly fathom, but the transformation T.O. has undergone is utterly amazing.

I truly believe that when Terrell gave his statement at the end of Sunday's game, words have never flown more freely from his heart.  As he spoke, it was clear that he stood not for himself, not for a winning season.  He stood for the Dallas Cowboys.  At the beginning of the season T.O. said something to Tony Romo that I never thought I would hear from such a man.  "I am because you are. You are because I am." The Terrell Owens that stood before us and cried for the sake of his teammate and friend on Sunday, is not the T.O. who made waves in Philly. He is not the same T.O. who rubbed Jeff Garcia the wrong way. The product of environment?  Maybe. A new outlook on life? Possible.  But the way I see it, with as much talent and heart as that man garners, I am PROUD to call Terrell Owens a Dallas Cowboy.

Moving on to Skip Bayless. I'm not sure how many of you caught his enlightening and insightful interview Monday, but man oh man what a commentator.  It is very clear every time Skip talks that he has a genuine distaste for America's team. For him to say the words, "Dallas Cowboys" looks as if it almost makes him cringe each time. Look, I get it, you don't like the Cowboys. But give it a rest! We know you don't like the Cowboys, and that's ok...more people to add to the list of thanks when we finally do hoist the Lombardi Trophy!

According to Skip, Terrell Owens was anything but genuine in his post game remarks, and his 'acting' skills were laughable. This is further proof that once you establish a history, or 'Track Record' rather, it is difficult, if not impossible to get away from ever. What hope does the rest of the world have, if change is impossible? All I wanted to do in this part of the article is everything I could to debunk Skip Bayless. Skip is a joke, and in order to be a good commentator, you have to climb off your high horse jealous track of the greatest team in the nation and get over it.

I am a Dallas Cowboys fan.  I love the Dallas Cowboys, and as long as I live I will forever defend my coaches, my owner and my teammates. And Terrell Owens is on the top of that list.

These Cowboy Colors Don't Run

Once a Cowboys fan, always a Cowboys fan. There's nothing to be ashamed of. We had a stellar season (the best in franchise history), found a new franchise running back (Marion Barber) and a new coach who WILL lead us to the bowl in the next year or so. Despite ravaging penalties throughout the game and an explosive Giants defense, I feel we played an excellent game.

There is nothing to be ashamed of, and the better team won. The better team ON THAT DAY. I feel like Marion Barber played his heart out, as did Tony Romo, Terrell Owens, and the rest of the crew. Don't listen to the hype, because there will be a plethora of it surrounding America's Team, and don't get discouraged.

Our season starts in approximately 6 months, and that's where we are as fans. Let me remind you all again, this is not a losing season, and our pride should not diminish whatsoever. We are the BEST team in 2008, and we are undisputably the favorite to win the Super Bowl in 2008, (save that of the Patriots, who prove that the only way to win is to deal with the devil).

I have no qualms with the way things went that fateful Sunday, and I wish the PACKERS the best. As this is my first column, I'll keep it short, but in closing I have to remind Cowboys fans this: We will all be there for next season's kickoff in Texas Stadium, and it can only get better from here.  GO COWBOYS!!!!
