Taking A Look at Wide Receivers

A lot of Cowboys fans were very disappointed that the Cowboys didn't pick up a wide receiver in this year's draft. According to the media, Jerry Jones looked but didn't find anything worth pursuing. When you compare the wide receivers available to those already on the Cowboys roster, there wasn't much to gain.

"I didn't see anything that should be of interest," Jerry Jones said following the draft. "Relative to what we would need to make a trade. Did not see a serious one. it might have been serious in their mind but it was BS in mine."

I don't understand what all the fuss is about. We have a solid corps of receivers. We have a few veterans and some young up and coming players who could prove themselves if given the chance. It is a little scary to think about what an injury could do to the team, but haven't we "been there, done that" last season?

Terrell Owens

T.O., Dallas' star receiver, is now 34 years old. If you look at his stats, age means nothing. Every year he continues to improve. Last year he had a few injuries but still managed to play 15 games and the playoff game. He ended the season with 15 touchdowns, 81 receptions and 1355 yards. If you know Terrell, he eats, sleeps, breathes football. He has been known to play injured on numerous occasions. I expect Terrell Owens to shine brighter than ever and be on top of his game in his last year under contract. If he makes it through the season and is still going strong, I imagine he will sign a short term deal and retire a Cowboy.

Patrick Crayton

Patrick Crayton just signed a 4-year contract extension worth $14 million. The 29-year old started nearly every game in 2007 in place of the injured Terry Glenn and finished with career-best numbers. He recorded 7 touchdowns, 50 receptions and 697 yards. However, after signing his new extension, Crayton went on to drop 2 key passes in the Cowboys playoff game. I still see big things from Patrick, he will likely get the starting job when he goes up against the fragile Terry Glenn in training camp. Either way, he has an important role in the Dallas offense. I expect to see increasing stats and productivity from Crayton in '08.

Terry Glenn

Terry Glenn continues to fight to get back to work after having arthroscopic knee surgery last preseason. Glenn turns 34 in July, but if he can get healthy he may still have some game left in him. It's going to be a tough battle but Glenn is a veteran with years of success under his belt. I believe if his body will allow him he could come back strong and be a force in the already powerful Dallas offense. Glenn is signed through 2010. I would have bet money if Glenn was healthy, Bill Parcells would have already tried to get his boy to Miami. Jerry Jones believes Glenn has a 50-50 shot at starting this year and has confidence in him. I have to think that Jones not pursuing someone to take over for Glenn, must mean he has faith that T.G. will be ready to play come game time.

Sam Hurd

At the young age of 23, Sam Hurd has already won the hearts of many Cowboys fans. Hurd acquired as an undrafted free agent in 2006. He hasn't really gotten much playing time, but when you are T.O. backup you don't see much light. Sam Hurd has the potential to be a great wide receiver, he just needs the chance to show he can handle it. In 2007, Hurd had 19 receptions, 1 touchdown and 314 yards. He becomes a free agent in 2009, but if he keeps up the hard work he may get signed beyond that. He works with some of the best the league has known, so maybe with their guidance and leadership he can become a future star, only time will tell.

Miles Austin

Another 23-year old receiver, Miles Austin hasn't seen much playing time. He is most known for his kickoff return for a touchdown in 2006 in which he ran smiling 93 yards into the endzone. It was Dallas' first ever kickoff return for a touchdown in their 55 playoff game history. But to be completely honest, unless this kid learns some new tricks, I don't see a very long career with the Cowboys in his future. He will be competing with Sam Hurd and Isaiah Stanback, other than special teams he won't see much field time. Austin will be a free agent after this year, and will probably move on and try his luck with another team.

Isaiah Stanback

Drafted in the 4th round of the 2007 draft, Isaiah Stanback was a steal for the Dallas Cowboys. But as our luck goes, he was injured and sat out the majority of his rookie season. Stanback played quarterback and wide receiver in college and in 2007 was also drafted by the Baltimore Orioles to play baseball. He is an all American athlete, who is projected to be a future starter. I see great things in Stanback's future with the Dallas Cowboys. When he returns healthy, expect to see him on special teams and possibly getting some playing time at WR. Keep an eye on this guy, I bet we see alot of him in preseason, and that will just be a preview of what he can do. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing Stanback career develop, he has what it takes to be a star.

***

Not bad, not bad at all. The Cowboys also continue to look at undrafted free agents, and have picked up a few wide receivers to examine. However, for those of you still not sure, there is still plenty of time to sign a veteran, a dependable guy who isn't happy with his current residence or needing a change of scenery. A Chad Johnson or a Roy Williams could be pushing it, but Jerry has been known to make some outrageous deals in his time. Have confidence my Cowboy friends, we have a powerful offense and any addition to it will only make this force even more unstoppable.

Take the High Road and Pass on Pacman

According to a story published today in the Star-Telegram the chances of the Cowboys getting Pacman Jones are dwindling down.

Jerry Jones said, "I think the longer that it goes, the less likely [it will be done]."

"It's just me trying to be realistic about it, I don't have a feel for it right now."

The Cowboys aren't basing their offseason moves on a trade for Pacman. Jerry Jones simply says adding Pacman would be a "luxury".

So you may ask yourself, what kind of luxury is Pacman Jones? Well (as if its possible), try and look past his insanely repetitive criminal record and check his on-the-field stats.

At the end of 2006, his second season, Jones totaled 62 tackles, one sack, 1 forced fumble, 12 deflected passes, 4 interceptions, 130 return yards, one interception touchdown, 14 passes defended (second-team), 440 punt return yards and tied for NFL-high with 3 punt return touchdowns.

But like I said IF its possible to look past his criminal background, he might be useful to the Cowboys on the field. Personally, I am not one of those people who can look beyond what he has done and if by chance Dallas does acquire him, it will be quite some time before I am able to accept him as a member of my beloved 'Boys.

I would rather look ahead to the draft and give that chance to a fresh new rookie who may be the next shining star of America's Team.

This Might Explain Some Things - NFL Salary Cap

A lot of fans are continuously asking why we aren't signing Marion Barber - you say 'do it now', 'give him the money!' Well the truth is the Cowboys don't have the money because of the salary cap. They have $3.9 million left and are number 30 of 32 in the list of NFL teams money left under the cap. We still need some funds for the draft, in which the Cowboys hope to pick up some future stars.

That's why they issued Barber the highest tender, it was the best way to keep him safe. God forbid someone makes Barber an offer and the Cowboys have to counter-offer, they will have to move some numbers. If all goes well, Barber will probably get a long term deal this summer or during the next season. Don't sweat it!

NFL Salary Cap Facts:
2008 numbers: Cap = $116 million, Floor = 85.2% of cap = $98.8 million

In transitions, if a player retires, is traded, or is cut before June 1st, all remaining bonus is applied to the salary cap for the current season. If the payroll change occurs after June 1st, the current cap is unchanged, and the next year's cap must absorb the entire remaining bonus.

Because of this treatment, NFL contracts almost always include the right to cut a player before the beginning of a season. If a player is cut, his salary for the remainder of his contract is not paid, and never counted against the salary cap for that team. A highly sought-after player signing a long term contract will usually receive a guaranteed signing bonus, thus providing him with financial security even if he is cut before the end of his contract.

So You Say You Wanna Be A Cowboy?

Adam Bernard Jones, more commonly know as "Pacman" Jones has publicly announced he wants to be a Cowboy. I know its not the first time I've heard this presumption and until he finds a home I'm sure it won't be the last. But will Jerry Jones look past all of Pacman's troubles and give him a shot in Dallas?

I don't know of any fan that would put it past Jerry. But I know many fans that wouldn't agree with this move. But since when do the Cowboys judge players by their off-field behavior? Let me remind you of a Hall of Famer by the name of Michael Irvin. Do you remember Leon Lett's drug problems in the 90's? It's not a thing of the past either, how about the 2007 acquisition of Tank Johnson while he was still under suspension.

I have heard some compare Pacman Jones coming to Dallas to Terrell Owens moving to Dallas in 2006. Have you lost your mind? That's not even a comparison. Owens has never had legal problems - distractions and teammate problems, yes. But how do you compare the two? I guess the fact that everyone thought T.O. would be a cancer on the team may be an argument, Owens certainly proved everyone wrong.

Jerry Jones may have a heart for troubled players with a great amount of talent, but it may not be worth the risk. Its not even a certainty that Pacman will be reinstated by the NFL. Dallas is in a big need for a cornerback. Its a tough call and I'm glad I don't have to make that risky decision.

Personally, I think NFL needs a no tolerance policy. This is ridiculous that we are even contemplating acquiring a man who has been involved in a shooting, assault, vandalism, public intoxication and illegal drugs to name a few. Why do they allow criminals to become famous and make millions? And why do people born with such amazing God-given talent decide to throw it away?

Rayfield Wright: An Inspirational Star

Last night as I lay in bed, I was flipping through the channels and something caught my eye. Now I'm not one to watch TBN (Trinity Broadcasting Network) or any other religious channel, but I stopped because I seen a picture of a football player in Cowboys uniform flash on the screen. I knew who it was from his jesey number and the picture looked familiar. In fact, last year we did a bio on him in our Legends of the Star series. It was Rayfield Wright.

I never knew much about Rayfield. I knew he was a great tackle and was enducted into the hall of fame the same time as Troy Aikman. He played football before I was even born. But as I listened to him tell his story, I gained so much respect for the man. He spoke very well, he seemed very educated but also grateful for the life God had given him.

The host of the show asked Rayfield to tell the story of how he became to be a Dallas Cowboy. He said that he never really wanted to play football. He didn't play football in high school, he played basketball. He was a tall skinny kid who didn't look like a football player at all. He went to Fort Valley State College in Georgia on an athletic scholarship for his basketball talent. He played basketball and had to choose one other sport and chose football.

Rayfield was asked to leave college to go to the NBA early, but turned down the offer stating he made a commitment to get his education and that's what he intended to do. His senior year he was contact by someone from the Dallas Cowboys and told they were looking to draft him. This was a surprise to Rayfield because he considered himself a basketball player not football. He said football training camp was in July and basketball camp was in August. He decided to go to Dallas and see what it was all about, then he never looked back.

He became very close with coach Tom Landry. He respected Landry a great deal and said Landry's priorities in life were in this order: God, Family, then Football. I don't think many would think that of one of the best football coaches of all time, but I suppose maybe that's what made him so successful and such a great leader.

It was a short interview and I'm pretty sure it was a rerun, but I'm glad I stopped on that channel and got the pleasure of getting to know more about Mr. Wright. It's great to know that someone can start off in this world with nothing, and live his life to the fullest with nothing but love, respect and the power of prayer.

Rayfield was an integral part of all five of our Super Bowl teams. He was always a team player whose solid character contributed to a winning atmosphere. It was an honor to coach Rayfield Wright.” COACH TOM LANDRY in a letter to the State of Georgia Hall of Fame

We'll Get Through It, It's Just a Matter of Time

Sundays just don't seem the same anymore. The hype has disappeared. Football season seems so short, just as it starts to get interesting, its over. Now we have to wait for spring and summer to pass before we get to enjoy our favorite pastime again.

But think about it...My niece Kinzie, she enjoys cheering on the Cowboys!

Preseason is in August... Training Camp is in July... then there's mini camps that start as early as May and the NFL Draft in April. So, really we just have to get through the rest of February and March. February is half over now, free agency starts at the end of the month. Hell, by the time you get back from your Spring Break vacation it will be time to start studying the players again! See, nothing to worry about - football will be back in no time at all!

I know, I know... its not the same, but its always been this way. Maybe when you have such a good team you just can't wait to see them out there playing again. Or just maybe when you have a great team that loses in the end when it counts the most, you just want to see them get another shot. Either way, I miss those Cowboys. I can honestly say I don't miss the insane drama the media created for them, or that 'one' girl who presumably jinxed the team with a dream. But I miss the action.

I miss the escape moves pulled off by MB3 & Romo and the nearly impossible bombs that reached the end zone just in the "Nick" of time. I miss Terrell Owens' big smile and his confidence that no one could tarnish. I miss the Helmetless Warrior and the "Ware" wolf and the Sack Monster. I miss hearing old Cowboy stars like Moose, Deion, Emmitt and Troy talk about the Cowboys before a big game, usually defending them when others would express only negative thoughts.

2007 was definitely a memorable year for Cowboys fans. Whether you choose to remember it for the good, the bad or the ugly is up to you. I, for one, will remember the great moments. I'll remember when I first learned Tony Romo got his contract. And when he broke records, left and right. What about when Terrell Owens was named "NFC Player of the Month" last November. Yeah, I know, I'm an optimist. I always have been, and I don't think its a bad thing really. It gets my heart broken every once in a while, but it also keeps a smile on my face and hope in my heart.

LET'S GO COWBOYS!

February 09, 2008

Veteran Star, Rookie Pro Bowler

Prior to this past season Greg Ellis never finished a season with more than nine sacks. Despite coming off a big injury in 2006, Ellis had an astonishing performance finishing with 12 1/2 sacks in 2007. He was awarded NFL's Comeback Player of the Year for his amazing year that didn't even begin until week 4.

During the off season last year, a lot of people wondered about Ellis' allegiance to the Cowboys. He complained openly about wanting a contract renegotiation. Initially, he did not get his wish but right before his debut since his injury, $2 million was added to Ellis' contract.

In his ten years with the Cowboys Ellis has had some bumps along the way, but in the end he has always come through as a dedicated player. He is known as a mentor and a role model on the field and in the locker room.

You've got to give credit to a veteran who can come off an injury like he did and have his best season as a professional football player. Ellis was honored to be finally be selected to play in Hawaii.

"It's a great feeling to be honored, to be going to the Pro Bowl," Ellis said. "You can't put too much on it. A lot of guys like myself that have never been and they should've gone, in my opinion. But when you're number is called to go, it's a tremendous honor."

Once again, congratulations to Greg Ellis, its been a long time coming!

NFL Network talks with Cowboys LB Greg Ellis and S Roy Williams

Looking at Free Agents

Unrestricted Free Agents (6)

  • LT Flozell Adams
  • S Ken Hamlin
  • RB Julius Jones
  • S Keith Davis
  • CB Jacques Reeves
  • CB Nate Jones

Restricted Free Agents (5)

  • RB Marion Barber
  • DE Chris Canty
  • LS L.P. Ladouceur
  • RB Tyson Thompson
  • OL Joe Berger

Exclusive Rights Free Agents (4)

  • DE Stephen Bowen
  • OL Cory Procter
  • CB Evan Oglesby
  • TE Tony Curtis

In my opinion the Cowboys must keep Marion Barber, Chris Canty, Ken Hamlin and Tony Curtis. I believe all of those players will help the future of this team. Some might add Flozell in with those names, but he just has too many penalties, and we all know when it comes down to it, penalties can make or break a game. Free agency signing period begins February 29th.

Cowboys fans have fallen in love with Marion Barber. With his rough style that earned him 10 touchdowns and 975 yards as the back-up running back to Julius Jones, its clear why they love him.

Chris Canty started to shine this year. The 25-year old defensive end had 3.5 sacks and 43 tackles. He is a restricted free agent, but is expected to sign a deal similiar to Jay Ratliff's 5 year-20 million.

Ken Hamlin, who signed a one year deal last year, has had a successful year. He had 5 interceptions, 62 tackles (45 solo) and will start in the Pro Bowl next month. That's more than enough reasons why the Cowboys should give him a contract.

Tony Curtis, the third string tight end, showed great potential earning 3 touchdowns from only 3 receptions in 2007. He also looked really good in pre-season. Being an exclusive rights free agent, he really has no say in the matter, but I'm sure he will be a Cowboy in 2008.

Jason Garrett Will Remain in Dallas

ESPN is reporting that Offensive Coordinator and former Dallas Cowboys player Jason Garrett will be staying in Dallas. He has turned down the Atlanta and Baltimore head coaching jobs.

Owner Jerry Jones met with Garrett last night and it is believed that Jason Garrett will receive a substantial raise along with the promise that he will supercede Wade Phillips as head coach in the next couple of years.

This is great news for the Dallas Cowboys and fans alike. Garrett, once Troy Aikman's backup QB, led the offense to a record-breaking season.

Despite the rumors, I never thought Garrett would leave. He was hired before head coach was filled last offseason, and it was pretty apparent that he would eventually take over the team. His loyalty to the team and Jerry Jones has basically insured this now.

Always A True Cowboys Fan

I know that today's loss to the division rivals has everyone completely distraught. Honestly I am speechless, but I know that I should say something and give everyone a place to get things off their chests.

This hurts. After a record-breaking season filled with such promise and hope, the season comes crashing down. Someone had to lose, and you can argue many reasons why we were the ones that had to say goodbye. But I think rather than count the 'ifs', maybe we should look back at the season.

What a wonderful year. Its been a blast. Think about it. Look at Jason Witten, what a year he had. Remember the helmetless run! We could learn alot from that warrior. I guarantee he will hold his head high and not look back at the mistakes, but learn from them and move forward.

Terrell Owens had a wonderful year as well. Marion Barber had a hell of a year, and really a wonderful first half in his first game as a starter. We found a kicker we can finally trust. And we learned we have many offense weapons.

Take a look at the young defense we have. DeMarcus Ware, oh what a beast! Then you throw in Chris Canty and Bradie James, the future looks bright. These guys are only going to develop. Greg Ellis, the sack monster, had a shocking year and went home with an award he can be damn proud of. We have great things to look forward to in years to come.

I know that Tony Romo is going to take a lot of criticism. He's now 0-2 in the postseason and some may question his abilities and his big contract. But I wont give up on him. It was his first year as a starter. He started off with a bang, and continued to break records and collect wins.

But somewhere in the last part of the season it began to dwindle down. I dont know why, I dont know how, but it did.

I truly believe he has a gift. If he can overcome this, he will be even better next year. What doesn't kill you, only makes you stronger.

This team has come a long way. Some may even call it a rebuilding year. A new head coach, many new staff members, a new quarterback.... the list goes on. I'm sure we will pick the season apart for weeks to come. But it won't change the outcome.

The season ended today but our love for the greatest team in the country - America's team, the Dallas Cowboys - did not end. Hold your head high, wear your colors proudly.

STAY TRUE TO THE SILVER AND BLUE!

God Bless,

Kelly

T.O. is a GO

It's been a long interesting week. The question of Terrell Owens status has been lingering since December 22nd when he left the game with an ankle sprain. Owens has been an essential element in the Cowboys success this year, and losing him would be devasting. But not to worry my friends, he's playing.

In an exclusive interview with Deion Sanders yesterday, Owens said confidently that he will play and not only that but he will play at a "high level".

"I'm going to play," the Cowboys receiver told the NFL Network's Deion Sanders, who asked what level Owens will play at.

"At a high level. I'm not worried about nothing," Owens responded before adding his trademark line, "Get your popcorn ready."

I really don't think anything was going to keep him from this game. Owens eats, sleeps, breathes football, it's his life. He is constantly training and working out, getting prepared for the next game.

The Cowboys have worked hard this year to be where they are. You could easily argue that no one wants to win this game more than Terrell Owens. Don't underestimate him, he will prove you wrong almost everytime.

Giants and Cowboys Have an Appointment With Destiny

The New York Giants defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers today in the NFC wildcard game, advancing the Giants to the next round. The G-men will travel to Texas Stadium to face the #1 seed Dallas Cowboys in the NFC Divisional Playoffs. The game will be Sunday at 3:30 p.m. central standard time.

The Cowboys and Giants have met twice this year, both times resulting in Cowboys' wins. The two teams started off their seasons with a rivalry match-up on the first NFL Sunday Night game of 2007. The Cowboys came away with a huge victory, 45-35. The 90 points scored were the most in a Giants-Cowboys match-up in history. In addition, Dallas scored the most points in a season opener since 1971, a year in which the Cowboys won their first Super Bowl Championship.

The second game played by the two teams the Cowboys also came away with the "W" with a score of 31-20. Dallas scored a touchdown in every quarter plus a field goal in the 2nd quarter. The Giants had the ball nearly 10 minutes longer than the Cowboys but just couldn't seem to click.

On December 17th the Giants suffered a huge loss when Jeremy Shockey was placed on injured reserve ending his season. They also have 9 other players out for the year plus 10 more on the injury report this past week. They will need to really focus and bring their top game if they plan to match up against the Dallas Cowboys.

On the other hand, the Cowboys need to come into this game level-headed and full-hearted. Other than determining home field advantage and bracket spots, the playoffs give every team a clean slate. Tony Romo needs to play like he did early in the season and prove to the nation that he is among the big game quarterbacks.

If the 'Boys do everything right and play like they did all season, with exception of the last 3 games, they've got it in the bag. The Dallas Cowboys have the opportunity to go all the way, it just depends on how bad they want it as a team. I have a great feeling they want it so bad they can taste it! Go Cowboys!

We Could See a Little of Everyone in the Season Finale

The Cowboys season finale will take place this Sunday at 3:15 p.m. central time, in Washington. Yes, the time has been changed, hopefully that will allow more regions to tune in to the final game of what has been an exciting record-breaking year for the Dallas Cowboys.

A lot of people believe the Cowboys can take it easy for this game, and some want the Cowboys to go full force. Personally, I'd rest the starters. Especially with the injuries we've encountered in the last two games, it's just not worth the risk. I think Wade and Jerry agree with that theory.

Rumors are that Romo will take limited snaps and is expected to hand the ball over to Brad Johnson early in the game. Terrell Owens is of course out for this game, Sam Hurd will start in his place. The biggest news of the week though - Terry Glenn's return! Glenn practiced with full pads today. He may come out a little rusty, but to know he is eligible to play makes me feel a little better about Terrell Owens absence this week.

Others are speculating Marion Barber to sit out for most of the game and let the 'starter' Julius Jones play almost a full game. Wade Phillips and crew have used both Jones and Barber all season, but differently than Bill Parcells did last year. They have split drives instead of downs for most games. Its been interesting, but despite Jones' starting status, Barber has been more of a star. This was proven when Barber was recently awarded his first Pro Bowl nod.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing some of our backups play. It's good to see what you have and I believe we have excellent depth all around this team. Of course, we wouldn't be where we are - Home Field Advantage, First-Round Bye, No. 1 Seed in the NFC, etc. - without the starters who have been shining all year long. Take a break guys, we need you to rest up for the playoffs. We believe this is the year, we break that 5-time super bowl champs tie, and go all the way for #6!

A Silver and Blue Christmas

This year has definitely been one to remember. Not only has the team been successful, but so has this website I created only a year ago. Maybe they go hand in hand, maybe the team's success has lead to the success of many things, whatever it is - I am thankful. I am so glad to be a part of this place for Cowboys fans to come together.

I think a lot of us feel the same, this year has been different. We have been able to communicate with Cowboys fans across the nation, even across the world! Whether you believe it or not, the fans make a great difference in the world of sports. We all share a great passion for the silver and blue and we couldn't be more proud of our 'Boys.

No matter where the future takes us, we will stand behind this great team like we always have. They have great potential to go all the way, but I say lets take it one game at a time.

From everyone here at lonestarstruck.com, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and look forward to the great years ahead for this phenomenal team.

December 23, 2007

Home Sweet Home

What a nice Christmas present, huh Cowboys fans! With Green Bay's loss to Chicago today, the Cowboys have clinched home field advantage throughout the playoffs. No matter the outcome of week 16's games, the Cowboys will have the comfort knowing they will be home because they defeated the Packers back in November.

Dallas has not been the No. 1 Seed in the NFC since 1995, which is also the last time they won a Super Bowl. Coincidence? Only time will tell!

Following the last game of the regular season next week, the Cowboys won't play again until January 12-13 for the NFC Divisional round. This will give some of our recently banged up players a chance to rest up and get ready.

"This weekend's results give me a great feeling of pride in the job that has been done by our players and our coaching staff," Jerry Jones said in a statement. "I am particularly pleased for the Dallas Cowboys fans who have given us so much support. They are truly deserving of being able to share in the experience of bringing NFL playoff football back to Texas Stadium. We know that our home crowd will make a positive difference in the outcome of our games in January."

Way to go Cowboys!

Romo Named NFC Player of the Week

That's right people, if you haven't already heard the buzz Tony Romo has been named NFC Player of the Week. What an honor, it's his second time to get the award this year and his fourth time in his short tenure as a starter.

In my opinion, no one is more deserving. Romo is breaking records all over the place and proving to everyone that he is one of the elite QBs in the league. Last week's game had been talked about for months. But with Brett Favre leaving with a couple of interceptions and an injury, and Romo leaving with 19-of-30 completions, 309 yards and 4 touchdowns, no one could have predicted that outcome.

This has been a magical year and it starts with the brightest star in Dallas, Mr. Tony Romo. Anyone who ever questioned his abilites surely won't do so now. He has proven himself time after time, and as long as he keeps playing with all of his heart, you can rest assured it will lead to nothing but victories. Just sit back and enjoy the show Cowboys fans!

By the way, Rom has also been nominated for the FedEx Air & Ground Offensive Player of the Week at nfl.com. You can vote for him here.

NFL Star Sean Taylor Loses Fight For Life

Washington Redskin safety Sean Taylor passed away early this morning after injuries suffered from a gunshot wound. The 24-year old Pro football player was shot at home during an apparent armed burglary. The gunshot was fired at his leg and damged his femoral artery causing significant blood loss. Taylor had been airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, FL early Monday.

At one point Monday night there was hope after Taylor squeezed a nurse's hand. However, he never regained consciousness. Doctors aren't sure how he squeezed the hand, some say he may have been trying to say goodbye.

Taylor's girlfriend and 1-year old daughter were also in the house at the time of the shooting, fortunately neither were hurt.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family at this troubled time. May he find peace with the Lord.

The Future Home of the Dallas Cowboys

While in Dallas for Thanksgiving, I decided to take a short visit over to Arlington to get some photos and a first hand look at the new Cowboys Stadium currently under construction. I was so amazed at this "monster" of a stadium that is taking shape. I have seen the virtual tour online and artist renderings but when you are right there, well I just can't explain how it feels.

It is still somewhat of a skeleton, but its definitely coming along quite well. After all is said and done the stadium will span 2.3 million square feet, tall enough to house the Statue of Liberty. It will be the largest domed structure in the world, and house 80,000 people with the capability of expanding for 100,000 people. Of course, we've all heard these statistics but to see it still blows my mind.

I'm very happy that I took the opportunity to visit the future site of "The House that Romo Built". I plan to visit again as it progresses and compare the photos. This is definitely history in the making. If you live in the Dallas area and have not checked it out, I certainly recommend taking some time to do so.

From Romo to Owens, We've Come A Long Way

What a great feeling it is to be a Cowboys fan! Can you believe we are 9-1! We have many reasons to be happy, and very few to complain about. But I have a huge complaint I want to share with all of you. Where is the love? Where is the respect?

The Dallas Cowboys have won 9 of their last 10 games. They have more than proven what they can do, and done it with class. But everytime you turn on ESPN or check out news around the internet, they are being bashed. Excuses are being thrown out there, when in reality the Cowboys are definitely the team to beat in the NFC.

Tony Romo has been a blessing. He has come in every game and played his heart out. I won't say he hasn't made mistakes, but I dare you to try and give me a time when he didn't get back up and make up for it. He plays with everything he has until the last second of every game. As for certain commentators who say, "Sure, who couldn't succeed with the weapons he has on the field...". Well, I think we all know thats just not how it works. We had the same receiving corps last year, (pre-Tony Romo) and we did not have the same results. Romo is definitely proving game after game that he is one of the elite quarterbacks in the league today. And Cowboy fans, how exciting is that? It's only his first year! We have alot to look forward to.

The player who deserves the most respect, is getting the least. Yes, I'm talking about Terrell Owens. In the offseason, I believe Owens promised us 20 touchdowns this season. Well right now he's up to 12, it's very possible he could go over 20. He also has 1,028 yards, averaging over 100 yards per game with 6 games left to play. So tell me, where is the love? I understand his past, and his ego and everything that has given him this reputation, but he is doing everything right this time around. He brings a fire to this team, he gets out there and gets his teammates pumped. I know you seen him on the sidelines after his touchdowns, he was fired up! T.O. keep doin' whatcha doin', we love ya man!

No matter what this team does, people will either love them or hate them. It's always been that way, that will never change. My point is all about RESPECT. Keep on hating, it only makes play harder!

HOW BOUT THEM COWBOYS!!!

A Tank Will Soon Join The Big Guns in Dallas

Recently signed Terry "Tank" Johnson has been given permission to practice with the Cowboys and will join the team for Game 10 against the New York Giants. Tank was given an 8 game suspension by the NFL following some off-the-field legal issues.

The Cowboys signed the defensive tackle to a 2-year deal back in September after the loss of Jason Ferguson due to injury. Tank should fit in nice at the nose tackle position despite never playing in a 3-4 scheme. Tank has been practicing on his own in Valley Ranch and attending required counseling.

Tank Johnson was drafted by the Chicago Bears in 2004. In his three years with the Bears, Johnson had 63 tackles and nine sacks. He was part of a great defensive which included Brian Urlacher, Lance Briggs, and Nathan Vasher. During Super Bowl XLI, Tank recorded 4 tackles, 1 assist and half a sack.

Johnson has had more than his share of legal problems. He was arrested for concealed possession of a handgun in November of 2005. He pled guilty to the misdemeanor charge and received 18 months probation. Three months following this incident he was arrested again and charged with aggravated assault and resisting arrest, but those charges were later dropped.

In December of 2006, he was arrested once again for gun charges and violation of probation. Police found six unlicensed weapons in his home, including two assault rifles. The judge sentenced Tank to home confinement, but he was given permission to attend the Super Bowl with the Chicago Bears. After the Super Bowl Johnson pled guilty to the violation of probation charge and served 120 days in jail. He was released May 13, 2007.

The following month Tank was pulled over for speeding and driving under the influence. However, he was released and the charges were dropped. The blood test conducted at the time of the arrest later confirmed his blood alcohol content was under the legal limit. The Chicago Bears seen this as the last straw and released him on June 25, 2007.

It seems that Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys are looking to give Tank Johnson a second chance.

"Real gregarious kind of guy," said Coach Wade Phillips. "He's ready to play, wants to play, seems excited about it. And he's a pretty personable guy. All positives as far as I'm concerned, and he's working hard. He listens."

Hopefully Tank will take this opportunity that he has been given by the Dallas Cowboys and turn his life around. Everyone may deserve a second chance, but ask anyone, Jerry Jones won't give you a third chance.

A Football Player's Nightmare

I know he is not a Cowboy, but I would just like to say our hearts and prayers go out to Kevin Everett of the Buffalo Bills. Kevin was injured during the football game Sunday and will likely never recover. He suffered a spinal injury that will leave him paralyzed.

I know football is a competitve sport but you never want to hear of anything like this. God Bless the Everett family and I hope that in his lifetime he will witness that miracles can come true and someday he will walk again.

The Inspiration of the Playmaker

Michael Irvin accepted his induction to the Hall of Fame with heartfelt tears and the biggest smile you ever seen. I found myself crying, then laughing, smiling and cheering, what an emotional rollercoaster.

Jerry Jones' introduction of Michael Irvin was simply perfect. You could tell he was so proud and honored to be there. He took Cowboys fans back to the 90's and showed us how dedicated Michael Irvin really was. He gave everything on the field, up until his final game in 1999.

As Michael Irvin stepped up to the mic, I had no idea what to expect. I knew it would be an emotional speech, but I had no idea how he would touch everyone who was listening.

Irvin covered everything, from family to fans, to his faith and even the meaning of the game. He talked about his highs and his lows. He admitted that he had made some bad decisions in life and believed he did not belong amongst these great men in Canton, Ohio. But then he went on to say one of the most inspirational quotes that I will remember forever: Look Up, Get Up and Don't Ever Give Up!

I know every Cowboy fan watching was proud of Michael, but I guarantee every single person watching, fan or not, was moved by that speech. He really stepped up and showed what a great heart he has despite the bad reputation that has followed him throughout his life.

Yes, you are right Michael, it's more than just a game, and believe me when I say you are more than just a player, you're an inspiration. May God bless "your latter days more than your former".

The Greatest Wide Receiver to Ever Wear the Star

"I always believed, you should reach for the moon, and just maybe you will end up simply grabbing the stars."

                                          -Michael Irvin

We would like to honor Michael Irvin today as he is being enshrined into Pro Football's highest and most dignified honor. Michael "The Playmaker" Irvin will become the 10th Cowboy in the Pro Football Hall of Fame this evening. Jerry Jones will be presenting the honor to Michael, a job he accepted with great pride. Throughout the years, Jones has stood by Irvin through thick and thin and he wouldn't miss this for the world.

"There was not one time I ever thought about playing for any man other than Jerry Jones or any other organization other than the Dallas Cowboys," Irvin told the media at his retirement press conference in 2000.

Irvin finished his career with 750 receptions, 11,904 yards and 65 touchdowns. He was selected to five Pro Bowls, and was inducted into the Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor on September 19, 2005. Today he will honored for all of those accomplishments and always be known as one of the greatest receivers to play the game.

"Michael Irvin was the most competitive individual I have every played with. He was the heart and soul of our team. From a physical standpoint, there is no one who could match his talent and skill. His work ethic, charisma and drive were what carried us to our three Super Bowl titles.” – Emmitt Smith

Thanks for the memories Michael! Congratulations!!!
