Let's talk Chad Johnson

Talk of getting Chad Johnson (from Cincinnati) in Dallas is increasing by the hour.

It's all I heard about on the radio during my morning commute.

I'm all for it. But should I be?

Let's hear what Lonestarstruck readers have to say.

Talk to me!

Added by Lone Star Struck:

For those of you who aren't familiar with Johnson here are some stats from his entry on wikipedia.com

Chad Johnson holds the following records in the Bengals organization:

  • Most receiving yards in a season (1,440)
  • Most receiving yards all-time
  • Most receptions
  • Most receiving yards in a game (260)
  • Most seasons with over 1,000 receiving yards (6)
  • Most touchdown receptions in a game (3, tied with several other players)

On March 20, 2008 Johnson discussed his desire to play for the Dallas Cowboys on Fox's The Best Damn Sports Show Period, stating "If I end up in Dallas, I would just look at which finger I'm gonna put it on. That's it. Ain't no ifs, ands or buts about it," referring to winning a Super Bowl ring.

Chad Johnson is also the cousin of former Cowboy Keyshawn Johnson. (Drama must run deep in their family lol).

MBIII ....what's he worth?

So I hear that The Cowboys have offered Marion Barber 30 million and he wants more. There's been much discussion on local sports talk about this.

Is Barber worth as much as someone like LT? I know all Cowboy fans love Barber, myself included. But does a RB within a proven 2 back system, that is most likely going to continue to be a 2 back system, expect to get paid as much as a single star RB?

Would he last more than 3 years if he got pounded on as much as an LT? Can't he stay in the league longer if he's only out there half the time? Should he take the 30 mill and count his blessings?

Things have been too quiet around here at Lonestarstruck.com and I think this is a good topic to make some noise.

Whaddayu guys and gals think about this? Let me hear from you!!

An Evening with The Stars

Wow wow wow wow wow! What a night we had last night. My son and I were fortunate enough to have been invited to volunteer at the bowling night fund raiser for The Gift of Life Foundation. The Foundation was started by Everson Walls and Ron Springs to raise money and awareness for organ donation.

We were advised to get there early so we could choose our job. Well we were the first ones and man did we get the best job in the house! We worked the Celebrity sign in table. When we saw the list of who was coming, we could hardly wait until 6. It was only 3:30 so we had to keep ourselves occupied or the anticipation would have driven us insane.

Everson Walls and several members of the Springs family were there when we first arrived. Everson came by the table looking for some muscle to carry some boxes in. I asked JD if he would like to help Everson and he nearly tripped over himself. I didn’t see him again until 6 rolled around because he was helping do all the guy stuff and making friends with everyone. It paid off for him later!

The first person we checked in was Tony Dorsett. He has several companies and sponsored two lanes. All of his offspring and his beautiful wife were with him. Tony looks like a million bucks and his eldest son Anthony looks like a movie star. A couple of guys came in after that and I had to ask them who they were unfortunately. Then they came in droves. It was overwhelming. Three guys sauntered up to the table together arms around each other and all I could think of is that I wished my mom was there to see these three. It was Roger Staubach, Billy Joe Dupree and Tony Hill. My night could have been complete then. They kept coming in so fast, so many stars (Mel Renfro, Drew Pearson, Robert Newhouse, Michael Downs, Doug Donley, Too Tall Jones, Timmy Newsome, Russell Maryland, and more) that I didn’t really absorb what had just passed before me until later.

Once everyone had been checked in, we were able to mingle. It was really an awesome sight to see. All these pro athletes retired, and current players, gathering to honor Ron Springs and help raise money for those needing a transplant. But for me as a fan, I loved watching the reunion between them all. I loved seeing the young players like Tyson Thompson and Jason Hatcher paying respect to the retired guys. What a privilege this was to be such a huge Cowboys fan and see all these generations of Cowboys in the same place together, just being regular people and bowling, and visiting with each other and entertaining the fans that had paid to be there. This was a corporate thing. If a company made a sizeable donation, they were able to come and play with a celebrity.

Every person I asked to take a picture with JD was very kind about it. Tyson Thompson and Shawn Springs even stopped to talk to him a minute. They had all seen the kid working at the event and were thanking him for his help. Everson Walls was calling him by his first name and acknowledging him every time he saw him. What a class act Everson Walls is.

(My son with Everson Walls and Shawn Springs)

This was a wonderful event. I was so proud to be a Cowboy fan last night. I never asked for an autograph or picture for myself. I really didn’t even think about it because my son was having the time of his life. Just as I had realized we didn’t get any autographs and that we needed to head home, my son appeared with a football autographed by every Cowboy player that was there. These were for the corporate sponsors that had paid to be there. I am not going to rat anyone out for sneaking this football to him but let me tell you that it was the end to an evening most kids may never even dream of. My son the jock who thinks he is too cool to be excited was squealing. It was a night neither of us will soon forget. The Dallas Cowboys are a first class organization with a long list of first class players that treated us with such kindness last night. I wish all of you could have been there with us. We’re still on cloud nine 24 hours later.

p.s.       I copied the list of people I checked in and here are a few more that I didn’t mention previously: JOSH HOWARD, KEVIN BURNETT, ERIC STRICKLAND, CORTNEY BROWN, MIKE JEFFERSON, JAKE REED, BIG TUCK, ISIAH ROBERTSON.

Rome Wasn't Built in a Day

Well if you’re anything like me, you’re still walking into walls and stumbling around like one of Jack Nicholson’s friends in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, after that loss on Sunday. I gotta tell you though, I am more upset over football season ending than anything.
Honestly, for me, it’s more of a feeling of “What the heck is it that I do when football season is over”, because I never can remember life without football until a couple of months into the annual adjustment period. By the time I realize that I have adjusted, The Dallas Mavericks season will be in full swing and I will be excited again. There is no comparison between football and basketball, but I truly do love The Mavericks and have stuck by them from day 1. There’s a story behind that and a reason why I am a die hard Mavs fan, but I will spare you the details, for today at least.
Back to football and the Cowboys……I really am not broken hearted over The Cowboys season. I’m just not. When the season is going, no matter if it’s The Cowboys or my son’s baseball team, I will only allow myself positive thoughts and I only exude positivity. But if you want to know the truth, The Cowboys amazed me with every win. I believe this team we have right now is going to be another dynasty, but they are young and the coaches are new to the team and to each other, and it wasn’t time yet. We had more “W’s” in the win column than we actually deserved. We had some quirky wins that just weren’t strong enough to hold us until the end. Many teams improved over the season. The Cowboys improved and then flatlined midway through. I am proud that they made it as far as they did with the problems they had.
I am a natural born cheerleader in the spirit department. I sucked at gymnastics, so I never was one. Instead they asked me to start a pep squad because all my friends were cheerleaders and I was always yelling at them and the team and every one in the stands noticed me (imagine that huh?).  My point is, that I can remember being down 30 points midway through the 4th quarter (our team always sucked) and getting my squad and the cheerleaders to do these ridiculous cheers and keep the faith, when I knew in my sensible mind we were toast.
This Dallas Cowboys team is made of greatness, greatness that needs time to build. As the saying goes “Rome wasn’t built in a day”.
Romo is the leader, Owens has found his home and is leading with him. Garrett is going to be a mainstay and the real coach regardless of his title. Great things are coming. Maybe even as soon as this coming season. I am counting on that because I can see it. All I have to do is look back to 1990 and remember how horrible we looked in the record books, but still see the magic that was building between those teammates and with that man that I will love for the rest of my life, Jimmy Johnson.
So no folks, I am not sad or broken hearted. I am convinced and confident in my instincts, that these Dallas Cowboys are “Back in Town” and will make us all happy for many seasons to come. I feel it, I know it.

Merry Christmas Starstruck

Hello Cowboys fans and Lonestarstruck lovers!

I wanted to take this opportunity to wish a very Merry Christmas to Kelly and her family. Kelly (Starstruck) is an amazing lady with talent like I've never seen. Her passion for The Dallas Cowboys shows in every thing she creates. She does so much for Cowboys fans and puts so many hours of work into this blog site and the graphics she creates. I am constantly in awe of Kelly.

We've been so fortunate lately to begin to really acquire some good writing on here. It's a terrific group of people. I am so pleased for Kelly's sake that this site is becoming so successful and attracting such awesome people. It's Kelly's standard of excellence that has set the bar and is bringing these great people her way.

I met Kelly on myspace just a little less than 2 years ago and I have grown to know her and love her as a very very close friend. I can't express my affection for her in words. We have a deep love for our boys (we each have an only child) and we have a ridiculous love for The Dallas Cowboys. In having that in common, we had a foundation to build a beautiful friendship and mutual respect for each other. I feel incredibly blessed to be closing out 2007 with Kelly as a daily part of my life.

I know you all appreciate her as much as I do so if you would just shout out in the comments here and let her know, it will mean the world to her.

THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU DO MY SWEET PRECIOUS FRIEND.

I can't wait to see what you're going to come up with next. It just keeps getting better all the time.

Tis The Season to Be Jolly

I just wanted to share a few of my “Jolly” thoughts with all of you that are Starstruck like me. I am in the brightest of spirits and this I hope will give you reason to be as well.

I love Christmas, but who doesn’t?

If you don’t love Christmas then see a doctor immediately, because there is something wrong with you. Christmastime is a season, a month long feeling of happiness, family gatherings, food and friends and LOTS OF FOOTBALL!!  How can any red-blooded American not love this time of year?

I am personally jolly because my days in Abilene are coming to a close and I will soon be back home permanently with my son. Even though I am so happy to be going home, I wouldn’t trade this last 6 months in Abilene for anything because I have become closer to my father than I have ever been in my 40 years. I thank God I came out here and got close to him again two months before my mom died. Although my parents spent my entire life hating each other, my Dad was really supportive during the loss of my mother, just as he was 7 years ago when I had to put her in a lock down alzheimer's unit.

Another thing my Dad and I have enjoyed together is FOOTBALL. I seriously doubt either one of us, with our troubled history, ever expected to bond over FOOTBALL. When I was little and my dad was a very young father, he was a mad man on football watching day. I dared not speak or ask questions or get between him and the television. Now all these years later, we’re having a blast watching football and he’s teaching me so much more about the game. Yes, now that he’s a mellowed Grandpa (We call him “Papa”, not Grandpa), he’s really enjoying sharing his love for the game.

My dad is one like many dads. He played college ball briefly and suffered a career ending knee injury that altered the course of his entire life. A really intelligent young man who was never buried in books and still made near perfect grades. He had so many opportunities and chose football over everything. He’s 68 years old and still misses playing the game and it still pains him to think of “what if I hadn’t hurt my knee”. He loves the game more than anything, come to think of it, football and basketball are really two of the few things he’s passionate about. So we have bonded as I have grown into a more knowledgeable fan this year. I am deeply happy and jolly over my rekindling my relationship with my dad. And I am thrilled to know more intricacies of the game!

I am more than jolly over the rebirth of The Dallas Cowboys’ greatness. As a fan, I am in for several years of happiness and several consecutive Decembers of joy in a row. I remember those years in the 1990’s and I smile the moment I think of them. I can’t express how much I will look forward to the Christmas season even more because MY COWBOYS ARE ON TOP AGAIN!

I don’t have to explain this to you if you’re a Cowboys fan unless you’re a new Cowboys fan. You know exactly what it feels like. The spirit of The Dallas Cowboys is so similar to the spirit of Christmas. It’s almost inexplicable. You’re overcome with happiness, you get butterflies, you can’t stop smiling. IT’S SIMPLY MAGICAL.

This team truly is magical. This organization itself is so magical and has such an impact on players when they arrive, it’s amazing to watch. Look at all the bad boys we turn around! You can’t be around the Dallas Cowboys organization and not catch the fever. Everyone plays better here.

There is one thing that separates The Dallas Cowboys from teams like The Patriots. They keep you on your toes, they make you chew your fingernails, they make mistakes and then come back and blow your doors off making up for that mistake in double with magical plays and bold moves. No boring games here in Dallas!

It began with a gun-slinging quarterback that stepped onto the field and took over and made a mid-season turn around. He sparked the flame that started the magic back just a mere 13 months ago. A talented team with magic just waiting to be sparked, followed that leader and began bringing an entire City and The Dallas Cowboys Nation back to days of hope and joy. Add to the mix, a new “Players Coach” in Wade Phillips and the awesome Jason Garrett, and the glory days have returned. We are now looking at a team with numbers and stats better than we had in the 90’s. That is nothing short of a miracle because I never ever thought it was possible.

We have amazing, I mean amazing talent out there. The names are too long to list. There is not a starter on this Dallas Cowboys team that doesn’t bring something extra special on the field with them to every game.

I can’t think of a reason not to be Jolly and hopeful and filled with pure joy than I am right now. Christmastime is a wonderful season and The Dallas Cowboys are certain in the post-season, with a real chance at a Super Bowl appearance. You just can’t get me in a bad mood. If this doesn’t find you in a JOLLY mood, then I just don’t know what to do with you!

The Dallas Cowboys are 11-1 for the first time in history and it’s only just begun!

MERRY CHRISTMAS
HAPPY HOLIDAYS

BE A REAL FAN!!!

I am currently commuting back and forth between Abilene and Dallas. Typically I'm only in Dallas on the weekends to spend time with my son. He's 15 and a real rock star on his baseball team. Yet he's more of a football fan. I really enjoy watching football with him. He's of course a Cowboys fan. He's also a really hard core Longhorns fan. He is so emotional about his teams that sometimes it's frustrating for me. It's really interesting to watch the transitions a teenager goes through. Just when you think you have them figured out, they change on you.

Last season, near the end, when The Cowboys had a big loss, he took down his Cowboys myspace layout and put up an LT layout. Kelly will remember this. I was pissed! I told him that he's being fairweathered. We had a very heated discussion about this. I really didn't think I got through to him. Then the draft came and he had a nervous breakdown over Brady Quinn being passed over by The Cowboys. I explained that it was the right thing to do in backing up Romo, on Jerry and Stephen Jones' part. Again, I just got that look that teenagers give and figured I had gotten nowhere.

This season, I saw that I had possibly gotten through but maybe a little too much. One good thing is that LT is still on his myspace but he's just a hero. JD makes it clear he's a Cowboys fan. Here are some things that he is now getting angry with me about and questioning my loyalty!

I pointed out to him the difference between Marion Barber and Julius Jones and called Julius "glass legs". To him this means I hate Julius.

The Texas OU game was coming up and I told him to prepare himself for our guys to get stomped. He was livid with me because I was not being a true fan in his opinion.

I was such a nervous wreck before the Cowboys and Patriots game, saying we're not ready. We can't beat them yet, but still hoping for a miracle. Well that pissed him off too.

I'm calling this a 190 degree turn. We went a little too far! But I think he's headed in the right direction. I don't hate Julius Jones. I don't even want him fired or traded. I'm greedy and want to keep JJ and MB. I want The Longhorns to beat the Sooners every year in the Red River Shoot Out. I wanted The Cowboys to beat The Patriots more than I have wanted anything in a long time. I am not ever what I consider to be critical. I just see the difference between a good player and a great player. I see the difference between a really good football team and a near perfect football team. Still I am so glad I am not hearing my child say "we suck" or having knee jerk reactions like changing his flag or his colors just because of one or two bad games.

Now back to Abilene. If you know me, you know I am Dallas city urban girl. Born and raised in the heart of Big D. I love my home and I don't love small towns, suburbia, remote places of any kind. They're great for a weekend, but that is it for me. I hate being in Abilene but I love the time I am spending with my father here. I don't go out much without my Dad in Abilene because I stick out like a sore thumb in this God forsaken place, wherever I go. Well, I made an exception and it was a mistake. Monday night, I had watched all my primetime shows and my Dad was away in South Texas. I was at a fairly decent drive up motel here in Abilene and my much younger brother had mentioned that the bar there was ok. I was in the mood for an Amaretto or two and I figured Monday Night football was on at the bar so I thought "what the heck". I walked in and noticed every head turn to see who was coming in the door. I went on to the bar and sat down facing the big screen with the game on. I asked the bartendress for an Amaretto and then it began. She asks me "You want the real kind? Cuz we ain't got that here." Then she walks over and grabs the "fake kind" and shows it to me. I told her that would be fine. Then she proceeds to pour it over ice and I stopped her. I asked her to please give it to me straight up. She slaps a shot glass down in front of me and fills it up. I grinned and decided it was no big deal; especially after she said "that's a buck-fifty". So I drank Amaretto out of a shot glass for the first time ever.

I just kept staring at the big screen and trying to ignore the stares coming at me "the blonde stranger" in the half redneck/half college student flooded motel bar on Martin Luther King Jr Blvd in Abilene, TX (if you don't get the humor in that then you haven't been to Abilene). I engaged in lite football conversation with some traveling married guy looking to cheat on his wife. It was of course a conversation about football. Once I responded that I was a die-hard Cowboy fan, I blew my chances of having any fun in this bar. 'Married guy' had just bought me another shot of Amaretto and the bar maid says "T.O. sucks, I hate that 'n'-word". Then some dude who appeared to come out of the wall, says "What the 'F' happened to The Cowboys Sunday, they need to go back to training camp". And the idiot fest was on. I heard more crap in 2 minutes from more drunk idiots calling themselves Cowboys fans in a bar adorned with Cowboys posters and neons, then you can imagine. I chugged my Amaretto, which is really gross, you don't do that with Amaretto! And I said outloud "Well that's my cue, if I stay one more minute, I will have to give lessons on being a REAL COWBOYS FAN and I am not interested in spending the night in jail". I had really good timing too because as the door closed behind me I heard the words "Romo" and "Homo" and I knew I would have been in trouble had I not left just when I did.

This kind of fanship is infuriating to me. One loss against the greatest team in the league and that kind of talk? PUHLEEZ! Well at least I got my kid straightened out, although he'll never give me credit for it. Then again, he's really smart. I didn't meet any smart people in that bar.

GO COWBOYS!!!!!!!!!
