A GIANT Contract, An Eagle Down

Posted by James Edwards On August - 5 - 2009

Our arch rival QB Eli Manningis now the highest paid annual player in the NFL, signing a 6-year 97 million dollar contract with the NY Giants today. Eli has won a Super Bowl, and is regarded as a very good QB in our league but Eli now is being paid more than players like LaDanian Tomlinson, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, Kurt Warner, Donovan McNabb, just to name a few.

Eli is a good QB being paid great QB money. I personally do not think he deserves almost 100 million dollars. Eli has a lot of learning to do and is not even close to the best QB in the league.

Juqua Parker, DE for the Philadelphia Eagles was arrested near the Eagles training camp for possession of marijuana. Parker was riding in the passenger seat early Wednesday morning when a small amount of marijuana was found on him, Parker was then taken to Northhampton County Prison where he posted a $ 1,000 bail.

I’m positive Andy Reid will not be happy about this. The team has a training camp curfew of 1 a.m. and this took place about 27 minutes before curfew. Reid is aware of the situation and he said, “It’s in the law’s hands right now. As time goes on, I’ll know more.”

Final Thoughts on Steve McNair

Posted by James Edwards On July - 9 - 2009

The Nashville Police have officially ruled the death of NFL star Steve MvNair a murder-suicide.

McNair was first shot in the right temple then 2 times in the chest, then one final shot to the left temple, McNair’s girlfriend then shot herself in the head.

Gruesome details kept coming Wednesday from the police, and it hurts more every time. Memorials have been set up at LP Field where fans can go inside free of charge and watch McNair’s highlights on the video boards.

Former teammates Derek Mason and Eddie George  will be speaking at the funeral along with former head coach Jeff Fisher.

It hurts to see a legend go and that is exactly what McNair is. I am privileged to have been able to watch McNair and all his greatness on the field. He was a great man with many charities and loved his community and they in return loved him back.

The circumstances surrounding his death are irrelevant at this point. We should remember him for the great person he was instead of condemning him for his imperfections, we should love him for them because in the end it’s the imperfections that make us all great.

We love you Steve McNair, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

R.I.P. Steve McNair (1973-2009)

Michael Vick Officially Released By Atlanta

Posted by James Edwards On June - 12 - 2009

Today Arthur Blank and the Atlanta Falcons have officially finalized the divorce with Michael Vick. Vick, if reinstated. will resume his NFL career with another club.

There have been rumors of San Fransisco wanting Vick to join the club this coming season but nothing to really hang your hat on.

First of all Vick needs to prove to Roger Goodell he is worthy of wearing the NFL shield again, then he has to get back into shape. There are just so many things going against him right now.

Vick has alot of work to do.

Vick Released From Prison and Going Home

Posted by James Edwards On May - 21 - 2009

Micheal Vick began his journey to his Virginia home yesterday, where he will serve his last 2 months of his prison sentence under home confinement.Vick will be strictly watched by the F.B.I. and will serve 3 years of probation.

In all likelyhood Vick will be a NFL player this coming season, but the question is what NFL team will he be playing for?? I have heard rumors of the New England Patriots being interested because of his potential in the “Wildcat” formation.

Vick left the federal prison in Leavenworth 4 a.m. yesterday morning under the cover of darkness and was picked up by his fiance and 2 associates. The drive will take a estimated 19 hours and Vick is expected to get behind the wheel for part of that 19 hours.

What Is Goodell Thinking Now?

Posted by Kelly Horn On May - 13 - 2009

Has Roger Goodell lost his mind (again)?

The NFL commissioner is proposing to add another game overseas. The first time an NFL regular season game was played in London in 2007, when the Giants and and Dolphins traveled overseas. In 2008 the Saints and Chargers played in London. This upcoming season the Patriots and Buccaneers are set to make the trip.

“The fan reaction we’ve had in London has been extraordinary. We would like to feed that passion,” Goodell said after speaking at the Charlotte Touchdown Club. “We have a great fan base in the UK. There have been discussions of taking the second game and playing it in another market in the UK. That’s something that we’ll evaluate.”

I guess it’s all about the money. There have been complaints about field conditions at the stadium in London. Also, the fact that it takes a home game away from one team is a huge downfall. Goodell then brought up adding two more games to the regular season to make up for the loss of a home game to the scenario.

“I think the teams have had a great experience that have gone over,” Goodell said. “We’ve been able to build on that, and I think teams recognize it’s an honor and a privilege to go over and play there. And it can be done without impacting the team negatively.”

Players also felt that playing the Pro Bowl in Hawaii was a privilege before Goodell tried to take that away.

In my opinion, American football should be played in America. Home games are huge to the fans and we only have eight games as it is. What happens to season ticket holders? Do they get a refund on one game? I am just uneasy about the entire situation.

Since the Cowboys haven’t been chosen yet to travel overseas, I suppose it hasn’t directly affected us. But they will get around to our team. Then we will really hear the noise.

Brett Favre Tells Vikings No

Posted by James Edwards On May - 7 - 2009

We all have heard the rumblings about Brett Favre who was just released from the Jets about 10 days ago possibly signing with the Minnesota Vikings.

We now have Brett’s answer and the answer is no. Brett over a phone call told the Vikings he will be staying retired and therefore not playing in the NFL this season.

Brett had a chance to stick it to the Packers twice a year for however many years he decided to play, but I guess the Hattisburgh, Mississippi scenery and the fresh air persuaded him to stay away from the bright lights that is the NFL.  He’ll just sit back and enjoy his family, but then who could really blame him for that?

Three MVP’s, seven division titles, a Super Bowl,  and the all-time consecutive start streak… the guy has accomplished so many great things and we will miss him.

I will personally miss the improvisation that was Favre’s game, a true master of creativity.

Good bye Brett, you had a great run and we as football fans will miss you dearly from this great, great game.

Former Cowboys Strong Safety Williams Goes To Bengals

Posted by Josh Bradley On May - 6 - 2009

Nfl.com has reported that the Bengals and Roy Williams have agreed on a contract. I bid you good luck Superman.

The Bengals have agreed to terms with former Cowboys free safety Roy Williams.

The Cowboys released Williams, once regarded as one of the fiercest safeties in the NFL, after last season.

In Cincinnati, Williams will be reunited with Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, who coached the Cowboys’ defense when the safety had some of his best production.

Another Chapter In Farve's Legacy?

Posted by Josh Bradley On May - 5 - 2009

Well nfl.com has reported that the Vikings and Brett Farve are meeting later in the week. If this deal happens then the nightmare that Green Bay tried to avoid last year is on the verge of striking and will strike hard.

Here is the video that was on the nfl website.

Brett Farve Meeting With Vikings.

So what do all of you think about the possible return of Brett Farve let me know I’m interested in hearing everyones outlook on this and for me personally I would like to see him back for one more year and show Green Bay why they shoulda let him do his thing for one or two more years, because only he knows when he needs to retire.

Latest On Roof Collapse At Cowboys Training Facility

Posted by Joe D. On May - 2 - 2009

Ten people were transported to the hospital and two more were treated as walk-ins after the Cowboys’ indoor facility collapsed today, according to Irving assistant fire chief Rusty Wilson.

At least two of the injuries are considered serious. No further information was released due to privacy laws.

Dallas Cowboys special teams coach Joe DeCamillis was among those injured when the roof of the team’s practice facility collapsed during a storm.

Cowboys spokesman Rich Dalrymple said four team support staff members were injured and all players and coaches were accounted for. He didn’t know the extent of the injuries of the four, who he said were hospitalized.

Assistant coach Brett Maxie suffered a laceration on his leg, a source told ESPN.com’s Matt Mosley.

DeCamillis was seen putting on a neck brace and being taken out of the team’s main office building on a stretcher.

Team scout Chris Hall suffered multiple arm injuries after being trapped underneath the frame, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.

The roof came down at about 4:30 p.m. ET during a severe thunderstorm while the team was going through the second day of a three-day rookie mini-camp. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, in a TV interview from the Kentucky Derby, said 27 rookies were going through the workout.

Witnesses said lights started flickering and shaking minutes before the collapse, prompting players, coaches, staff members and reporters to vacate the building. Several people were trying to exit the facility as the roof came down.

The storm was producing winds measured at 64 mph just before it struck the Cowboys facility, said National Weather Service meteorologist Joe Harris in Fort Worth.

A witness on the scene told Mosley that players and coaches raced back into the facility to try and locate people that may have been trapped. Coach Wade Phillips directed emergency crews to at least three trapped people, according to the Star-Telegram.

Dalrymple said rescue personnel were still going through the debris to make sure everyone was accounted for.

Irving fire-rescue officials ordered all reporters and team personnel away from the immediate area.

The roof is a large air-supported canopy with aluminum frames covering a regulation 100-yard football field.

Our prayers go out to everyone involved and we hope for a speedy recovery for those who were injured.

3 Day Draft May Happen In 2010

Posted by Josh Bradley On April - 28 - 2009

Nfl.com has reported that the NFL has confirmed this, here is what the article said.

The NFL confirmed reports that the league is considering the idea of starting the 2010 draft in prime time on a Thursday night and making it a three-day event but added that no decision has been made.

The Dallas Morning News reported that the NFL was considering holding the first round of the draft on a Thursday night, the second and third rounds on a Friday night and rounds 4 through 7 on a Saturday. “We think it can be very appealing from a fan’s standpoint and an audience standpoint,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in the story.

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy posted the same details on his Twitter channel, asking his “followers” to let him know what they thought.

Last year, the NFL shortened the time between first-round picks from 15 minutes to 10 minutes, and this year’s first round took 3:23 — making it the fastest first round since 1990 (when there were four fewer teams in the league).

So what do yall think of this idea, leave a comment below and let me know.

Nfl.com had announced that Matthew Stafford has signed with the Detroit Lions. Though the website had very little details and no specific page here is what the Breaking News box said.

Chiefs Sign Former Cowboys TE Tony Curtis

Posted by Josh Bradley On April - 24 - 2009

As reported by dallascowboys.com, The Kansas City Chiefs have signed Tony Curtis to fill in a roster spot left open when they traded Tony Gonzales to Atlanta.

The Kansas City Chiefs announced the signing of former Cowboys tight end Tony Curtis today. Curtis was one of five restricted free agents for the Cowboys this season, but the team did not submit a tender offer for the former undrafted free agent.

Curtis came to the Cowboys after the 2005 draft and spent more than a year on the team’s practice squad. He had a short stint on the active roster in 2006, then went to NFL Europe in 2007.

A 6-5, 251-pound project out of Portland State, Curtis may best be remembered for his three catches in 2007, all of which went for touchdowns. He proved versatile as a blocker this season, filling in for injured fullback Deon Anderson against Green Bay in Week 3.

It was Curtis who blew his assignment on the blocked punt against Arizona that not only cost the Cowboys the game, but put Mat McBriar out for the season. He began the season as the usual No. 2 tight end, but eventually saw his playing time decreased as rookie Martellus Bennett matured in the offense.

The Chiefs had previously met with Cowboys unrestricted free agent safety Keith Davis this off-season, but the special teams captain left without an offer.

Panthers Lock Up QB Delhomme Until 2014 Season

Posted by Josh Bradley On April - 23 - 2009

As reported by nfl.com, the Carolina Panthers have signed Jake Delhomme to a 5 year extension worth $42.5 million with $20 million guaranteed.

The Carolina Panthers have signed Jake Delhomme to a five-year extension that keeps the quarterback under contract through the 2014 season.

While details weren’t immediately available Thursday, NFL.com’s Steve Wyche reports the deal to be worth $42.5 million, with $20 million guaranteed. The move also clears needed salary-cap space for the Panthers.

The extension comes just over three months after Delhomme had the worst game of his 11-year NFL career, throwing five interceptions and losing a fumble in the Panthers’ 33-13 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC divisional playoffs. But Panthers coach John Fox and general manager Marty Hurney had expressed strong support for Delhomme, who has been the team’s starter since 2002.

The move also gives Carolina some breathing room under the salary cap, which is weighed down by defensive end Julius Peppers‘ franchise-tag tender worth $16.7 million over one year.

Falcons Blockbuster Trade

Posted by James Edwards On April - 23 - 2009

The Atlanta Falcons and Kansa City Chiefs have just agreed to send TE Tony Gonzales to the Falcons in exchange for Atlanta’s 2nd round pick in the 2010 NFL draft.

Tony Gonzales has wanted out of Atlanta since the end of the season which saw his Chiefs only win 2 games. Gonzales is not interested in being apart of the massive rebuilding going on in KC and has expressed privately to the Chiefs management that he would like to be traded. KC management has said all along that they will not trade Gonzales.

Atlanta now has the potential with QB Matt Ryan, RB Micheal Turner, WRs Roddy White, Micheal Jenkins and emerging receiver Harry Douglas in the slot. Now this offense has a TE who can and will threaten the middle of the feild, who you must look for in the red zone with his jumping ability and great hands.

The Falcons have basically struck gold in this trade they will be a force to be reckoned with this season.
