Commish Addresses Rules Regarding Video Board

The new rules regarding the video board have been issued and posted on

They are as follows:

  • If a ball in play strikes a video board, guide wire, sky cam or any other object, the ball will be dead immediately, and the down will be replayed at the previous spot.
  • If there is not an on-field ruling that the ball struck an object, the Replay Assistant is empowered to initiate a booth review, including if the event occurs prior to the two-minute warning. If, prior to the two-minute warning, no booth review is initiated by the Replay Assistant, a coach’s challenge is permitted under the customary procedures for such a challenge.
  • In the event the down is replayed:(a) The game clock will be reset to the time remaining when the snap occurred.
    (b) All penalties will be disregarded, except for personal fouls, which will be administered prior to replaying the down.
  • Rule 3, Section 1 of the Official NFL Playing Rules provides for an official ruling to be implemented “in the interim between the annual rules meeting” that is “official only during the current season.” This Official Ruling expires at the conclusion of the 2009 postseason.

Commissioner Roger Goodell added,

“We will continue to address the particular circumstances in Dallas, giving full consideration to the competitive, safety and fan experience issues involved. The Cowboys have been fully cooperative as we have addressed this subject, and we will continue to work closely with the club on a longer term resolution.”

So basically, the board will not be raised and punts that hit the board will be replayed. However, if it becomes a continuous problem they will address the matter further.

The Last MNF at Texas Stadium

I want to warn you in advance that I am likely to be all over the place during this blog. I have so much to say! I missed being here with you last week! I was working like crazy to get a 4 day weekend for the holiday!!
Eagles vs Cowboys at Texas Stadium for football on a Monday night – of course!!

I may need that extra day to recover, ya know? I hope to run into some awesome fans this weekend! By the way, did you see the article about NFL Fans. They said Cowboys fans were ranked 10th. You’re kidding me, right? It’s time we get LOUD AND PROUD my friends! Together, we’ll show them what 10th looks like, okay!

Remember DEFENSE!! We are part of the DEFENSE!!

Seriously, the fans play a big roll in a home game. I mean, it’s called “Home Field Advantage” for a reason, right? That refers partly to US – THE FANS!! Break out the horns and noise makers or some of the kids annoying toys. LET’S MAKE SOME NOISE!!!!

I’m excited about our Cowboys!! They looked good, huh? I can hardly wait for Monday Night! I hope to see you there! PLUCK THE EAGLES!! You’re going, right? It’s the last Monday Night game in Texas Stadium. It’s the last first game of the season in the stadium. It’s one of the first of many lasts for all of us. We should make the most of every moment!

Last and certainly not least, a personal note:

My heart and mind is on tomorrow. As you may already know, I am an optimist. I believe there is good in anything. Sometimes it is hard to find the good and sometimes it takes years to discover the positives… I have come to the conclusion that September 11th is a day that connects each of us on a human level. I am thankful. I will truly never forget.

Much love to you all
