The are loved and they are hated. There is no team in the NFL, no football in the nation that stirs as much emotion, coast to coast, as the Dallas Cowboys. They are ‘America’s Team.’ Born in 1960, the Cowboys did not win a game in their first season, finishing 0-11-1. Eight Super Bowl appearances, five Super Bowl victories’ and, oh, the glory and the glamour that has surrounded this team.

What Is A True Fan?

It seems anymore this off-season as I scour the NFL website, the Cowboys website and due to a recent news drought even ESPN’s website I have noticed a question that a few people seem to be asking alot and it’s one that I’ve been asked at my job a couple of times before. That question can be asked many ways but the most common is “What makes someone a true fan?”.

The way I see it is that if you must ask that question then I can almost say that you are not a “True Fan”. I have seen various answers for this question but the one answer that bugs me the most is a simple answer that I hear too much is that you watch all 16+ games they play.

Well, that’s not the way I see it, and im sure for some people that may suffice, but not for me and hopefully not for any True Blue fan and any True NFL fan.

Here is the way I see it, a ” True Fan” is someone that when they wake up one of the first things to hit their mind is whats going on with my team today and closely followed by whats going on in the NFL as a whole today.

Number 2 on my description of a “True Fan” is that you watch the pre-game, game, and post-game and that you watch every other game you can of other teams to scope out who’s playing well for their teams so you can make predictions for when your team plays them.

Number 3 is that there is never such a thing as talking to much about your team and the first thing you think of for a conversation is your favorite team.

Number 4 is that the off-season is not viewed as just another time of the year and you do not stop talking about your team just because its not the season. It should be viewed as more time to talk about them and review how your season went.

Number 5 there is no such other thing as liking another team, you may respect them but NEVER like them because then in my eyes your viewed as a traitor.

Number 6 last but not least there is NO such  thing as too much apparel and collectibles of your team.

It has been awhile since my last post and that has mostly been due to me registering for school and making 3 youtube videos which 2 of them i am proud to say have broken 100 views and 1 has broken 150 views. So I hope that this post will do for my first one in a while so be sure to comment and let me know your outlook on a “True Fan”.

Exciting Weekend in Dallas!

Hey Cowboy Fans!

I hope this finds you all well. I am going to keep this short and sweet. Your LSS Staff is doing a fantastic job keeping you updated on the latest news on our favorite team and players, as always! Let’s give them a round of applause! Comments is a great way to show appreciation!

This weekend will be a fun weekend to be in Dallas. I’m throwing a party for Cowboy Fans! We are calling it the “We Don’t Need A Tailgate To Party”-Tailgate Party. How fun! When it all started, I was sure the RSVP list would max out at about 10 people. Imagine my surprise when I started helping fans with hotel information and arranging to pick up friends at the airport. Soon, the RSVP list hit 30… then 40… and beyond! WOW! I can hardly wait!

Next week, I will have plenty of pics and vids to share. If you’re in DFW or planning to be here Saturday night, let me know! I will find a way to share the information! We have kept the locations a secret to avoid party crashers! Just click on “staff” above for my link.

Also, tomorrow night (Thursday), I will be attending an awesome party! I’m beside myself at the moment and I can hardly wait to go! I don’t want to say much just yet but if you know me, you can imagine what has me so “WoooHoo!” Details on this to also come next week! You will want to stay tuned!

We are planning another party in April for the draft! Make plans now! If you can’t make it to DFW for that weekend, put together a party where you live and send us your pictures! Your Draft Party could appear on LoneStarStruck! Did you notice that LSS is hosting a Draft Chat? That should be fun! Maybe I can find a way to be there, too! Yes, these days people can be in two places at once! Haha!!

As you know, I am a major fan of the Dallas Cowboys. The only thing I love as much is YOU: Cowboy Fans! I have been busy putting fun events together for all of us! The 2009 Schedule comes out in a couple of weeks. Shortly after, we will be making plans for a few Tailgate Parties and spreading the word! We always get an early start on these plans so everyone has a chance to get here!

I will let you get back to your regularly schedule LSS programs now! Visit me here next week when I share details and photos from Thursday night and our 1st 2009 Tailgate Party… minus the tailgate!!

Much love to all!

We are # 1

One of the many things I love about the Cowboys is I am sure to get my money’s worth all year long! I enjoy this roller coaster ride of bye week vacations, spring training, trouble or… ? One of the things I love about YOU, the fans is your passion. I watch all the shows and surfed all the sites. I know what the media says about us and our team… We’re on the “Best Fans” top 10 list but well below where one might think.

As you know, I love fans. I talk to fans across the US regularly. Not just Cowboys fans but fans for every team and I know what they say, too! As far as I’m concerned, that opinion is the one that matters. WE – are #1 – just like our favorite team! We stick with our team year after year: DO OR DIE! It’s the thrill of victory on the edge of our seats constant drama and more that captivates us year after year.

In the real world, I spend most of my time motivating others to set and accomplish goals. One of the things I teach them is to keep records and review the records from when they had that kind of success. So, after work, I spent some time surfing and watching video from the days we enjoyed most. For me, that’s mostly the ’90s. I was fascinated by the team lead by what is now known as “The Triplets”.

No matter what your favorite era, it’s not easy to remember and want it again so much for so long. Knowing that you’ve come close, oh so very close… To be left with “Next year”

The difference between our favorite time and now?

We still do. No matter who your ‘All Time Favorite’ is or when they played – you still do. Your heart aches a little because that person no longer plays.  And here we are today, THIS season with the Cowboys: right here – right now.  Do we LOVE this team?

I dropped my beef with T.O. I even own a jersey now. I did not do it because he earned it or deserved it. It was not done for me because I was perfectly happy feeling the way I did about the whole situation. I let it go for the team.

What is going to get them through? What is going to bring this team together? Get them healthy? OUR LOVE!! OUR SUPPORT!! OUR VOICE!! It’s YOU Cowboys fans YOU!! You will be the motivation they need! GET LOUD MY PROUD COWBOYS FRIENDS!! GET LOUD!!!  I wanna see your STAR!! This website has some awesome graphics! That’s always a great start! It’s up to US to show them we care and we WANT IT FOR THEM!

It’s up to us to believe when it seems no one else will… Yes, I watch all the shows, vids and I read the articles. I know what they are saying and I know you know what I’m saying *wink*

Go Cowboys!

A Few Minutes As An Eagles Fan

I admit that with a background in Biblical studies, theology, and philosophy I am not your typical sportswriter by any means.  Sometimes my blogs are a bit “over the top” when I apply Biblical analogies to the Cowboys and events surrounding them.   I have been a fan of the Cowboys since 1972 and get these crazy ideas and start writing until I gush with praise over their success (or I think Armageddon is just around the corner when they fail).  That’s just the way I think in my own little world inside my head and I share it with others in the hope that they might find it entertaining as well.  Do I really think God has a favorite team?  Not really.  I think God loves all people, without regard to their skin color or the uniform they wear.

So, today, I have decided to try something different in this blog.  I am going to try to lay aside any bias or prejudice I may have.  For a few minutes, I’m  going to pretend to be a fan of another NFL team and ruminate on our glorious history.  Now lets see which one I should pick…

The Buffalo Bills…with four straight Superbowl losses…Nah.

The N.Y. Giants…No.  Although, my hat is off to them for last year’s success, I’m still too bitter.

The Redskins…NO!  I can’t commit blasphemy even if it is just pretend.

I know…the Eagles!!!  Since we play them this Monday, they’re perfect.

Now lets think back over the grand and glorious history of the Philadelphia

We have gone to the Superbowl eight times and won five Lombardi Trophies…No. Wait.  That was that other team we hate so much.  We, the Eagles, have gone to the Superbowl…um…just once. It was 1980 and we made history by being the first team ever to lose to a wildcard team (the Oakland Raiders).

Remember when the Bills went to four straight Superbowls and lost all four? Each loss was to a team from the NFC East; once to the Giants, once to the Redskins, and twice to the Cowboys.  One of those should have been ours in order for the entire NFC East to have been represented.  Unfortunately, those damn Cowboys took more than their fair share.

OK, so Superbowl titles are not exactly our forte, but we do have three NFL Championships that we earned before the Superbowl was inaugurated.  These occurred in 1948, 1949 and 1960.  Unfortunately, since I am only 40 years old, I am not old enough to remember these “glory days.”   Then, in 1960, an expansion club (previously mentioned above) was started that sort of eclipsed us and we have been living in their shadow ever since.

This year is going to be different though. We opened last Sunday by obliterating the Rams 38-3.  Granted, the Rams are only a Junior Varsity team but I was really impressed. Now, we’re on our way to Texas to take on the Cowboys and that T.O. dude that we can’t stand anymore.  We Birds are ready to show “the Boys” what we have.

Awww hell, forget it – I can’t stand it!  I hope my Cowboys beat the wings off those Eagles!!!!

I am a Cowboy fan and proud of it. Forget this “New Age, get in touch with your enemy” crap. I am a one team, and one team only man.  The Cowboys are the only team I care about.  Give me the Silver and Blue. Give me the stadium with the hole in the roof and the Ring of Honor that makes me so proud. Give me the Star that some teams fear, some hate, but all respect.  Give me a “history of victory” and a destiny of future Lombardi Trophies down the road.  Give me the Dallas Cowboys – America’s Team – My Team.

To fans of other teams out there, God bless you. Keep supporting your team. Feel free to comment, brag on your team or bash mine. Diversity is what makes everything so much fun.  Stay loyal.  But just remember this – some call it arrogance, we just call it confidence. We know we’re good.  You support your team. I respect that and I respect you. But to paraphrase the book of Joshua from the Old Testament (Joshua 24:15), “Choose this day which team you cheer for, but as for me and my house, we will cheer for the Cowboys.”

Can I get an “AMEN” from the congregation?

Rex Vs. Romo? You Make The Call!

Hello my name is David. But you can call me Rubini. Yes, I’m the new kid in town.

I would like to officially welcome you to the first installment of my thoughts and predictions on your favorite team.. rather "our" favorite team – "America’s Team", the beloved Dallas Cowboys. Please keep in mind that we all thrive off commentary. I enjoy, welcome and encourage passionate feedback. Positive or negative. Go for it! Voice your opinion and let’s have fun this year! Cool? Alright!!

When it comes to this Sundays match-up between the Cowboys and Bears, there are many uncanny similarities and many major differences between the two quarterbacks. We all must thank heaven and thank our lucky blue and silver stars concerning the latter!

Both QB’s are in their 5th season. Both play in the NFC Conference, and both are the captains driving the ship of a well oiled playoff team with realistic goals to win a Super Bowl this year after a disappointing and anticlimactic 2006-2007 season.

And that’s where the coincidences and similarities sharply appear to die.

Romo is simply a superior quarterback. From what we have seen thus far, Tony seems to have truly "learned" a bit  from last years remarkable (yet heartbreaking) rags to riches to rags melodrama. This year, Romo seems much more poised and in control as he isn’t forcing anything when the offensive line crumbles or when coverage is too tight. He may take a sack, or he may even run and scramble for a gain? But Romo isn’t throwing silly interceptions like his Chicago rival Rex or like Tony himself did towards the end of last season.

I like the fact too that "Baby Bum" (term of endearment) and Garrett are willing to let Romo "loose" to improvise. Unfortunately, Big Bill last year was the one who felt it absolutely necessary to negate Tony the freedom to run and create. He was putting away the anointing oil when perhaps he should have put in an order for  some more?

Romo’s a gifted scrambler ala the original Cowboys "Dodger" Roger Staubach. Romo doesn’t ever need to be caged up again as that would only kill his spirit and eventually his effectiveness. Wade and Garrett get Romo. They understand Romo better than I ever could have imagined! Along with Garrett’s new, fresh approach to handling Romo the new poised, "controlled" gunslinger, we should see plenty of all the cool, electrifying, fun stuff that comes so naturally to Tony.

And unlike Rex in either 06′ or now in 07′, Romo again has the command and the respect of his teammates. That’s huge! And once again, Romo has recaptured the rest of the NFL’s respect at large. Rex may have led his Chicago Bears team to the big enchilada last year, but this year there are even more questions than there are answers when it comes to Grossman. The stats speak for themselves.

In Dallas’ last two victories, Romo threw for 531 yds, with 6 TD’s and just one pick and a passing rating ranked 2nd in the league. Grossman on the other hand, has just barely over 300 yds with 3 picks, one lousy touchdown pass, and is sitting on a rating that ranks at nearly the very bottom of all QB’s both in the NFC and the AFC.

Romo should positively give last years NFC champs a major headache up in the Windy City at Soldier Field.

With a big win against the Bears this Sunday, expect the Romomania bandwagon to get extremely crowded once again. I’ll save you a spot next to the window.
What’s your opinion? Does Rex have a 300 yard game in him to beat The Boys on his home turf? Will Romo shine once again on primetime television and live up to all the growing hype? Let us know your thoughts!

My Prediction:   Cowboys 31    Bears 24
