Where Are The Haters Now

First of all I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and want to wish you all a very happy new year. I hope you all have a great 2010. Sorry I have not been writing but every family needs a vacation once in a while and ours was wonderful.  Like almost everyone else I have more than 1 new year’s resolution. My main resolution this year is to go to a Super Bowl party for the Cowboys next month. The way they are playing right now, that is one new year’s resolution that will NOT be broken.

As for the game what an outstanding performance our Boys have been putting up the last few weeks. Tony Romo is playing to the top of his potential shutting all the critics up each and every week. Yes he had one interception against the Eagles, but I feel that if a ball is tipped at the line of scrimmage and then caught, that should not be counted against the quarterback. Not his fault just a great defensive play.

The defense played great but I do have one small concern: the wide receivers for the Eagles were pretty wide open a lot during the game. We really need to tighten up that defense because they will not be dropping those passes every week.

I love to go hang out at the local sports lounge where the “haters” have hounded me all year long saying the Boys suck, Romo is sorry, they will not win anything, won’t even make the playoffs. I walked into the SAME place Sunday night after the Cowboys shut out the Eagles and those SAME people were high-fiving me and giving our Cowboys props, and one of them even said they actually have a chance of making it through the playoffs this year. Yes, I made him say that 4 more times haha.

So to all the bandwagon fans out there, who were criticizing the Cowboys week in and week out, who never gave them a chance to do anything, I simply have one thing to say:

HOW BOUT DEM COWBOYS BABY!!!!!!!!!

DoughboyCowboy’s Cowboy Round-Up

First off, Michael Irvin is on Dancing with the Stars. I was very excited about this. With his popularity and his moves from the football field, I think he is the man to beat. If he wins, next up is Troy. Go Playmaker of the Stars!

OK, now for the Cowboys… I don’t take too much into pre-season but it is nice to see the players get off the rust in a live game. Tony Romo looked good. His first series was off. But the way he moved the offense in his second series was great. Showing a little bit of what could be a great season, he spread the ball around and utilized all the weapons available to him.

Felix JonesAs soon as I seen Felix Jones run a few yards. I admit I said this out loud, “Felix I missed you”. The offensive will be awesome. This year I am really focusing on Witten and hoping he has a spectacular year. There is a hidden agenda with that one, more of that later.

The defense looked OK. While the 2nd and 3rd strings gave up a lot of points, the first team looked good. I am excited about Anthony Spencer and DeMarcus Ware. The opposition wont know where DeMarcus will be coming from. Look out for a top 5 defense.

It was nice to see Keon Lattimore get a few reps too. I think he is a sleeper for this team if he makes the full roster. Jesse Holley was also playing in a few plays too. It was nice to see number 16 running down the field. Sometimes players who are trying for a spot on the team don’t play that much. We’ll see if he completes the dream. I still think Hawkins should of made the team instead.

I am looking forward to this Friday’s game. I wont be able to see it here in Illinois, but it will be on NFL Network on Saturday. I want to see the inside of the new stadium. Look for a great season to come!

Each Monday I will talk about the Cowboys and what I think about the team. If anyone can think of a better title let me know. I am looking forward to a great Cowboys season! – DoughboyCowboy

First Preseason Game

Hey folks, well the first preseason game is coming up on Thursday and it I cannot wait. No, it will not be a game in which the starters will play much, if at all. What it means is that the season is right around the corner and we will finally get to see what the Cowboys have learned from last year’s performance.

We will get to see some young rookies show what they have and maybe show us that they deserve a starting position. We never really learn a lot from the preseason games, but it is football and the real games will be here soon enough.

Hopefully we will get to see a series or two of Romo and the other starters, I am curious to see the changes in the offense or lack of changes.

Anyway, it will be great to see some Cowboys playing football and to see some hitting by the defense. Even though we have experienced some injuries already, hopefully we will not have more. We will see what happens.

Go COWBOYS beat the RAIDERS!

Answers Needed From The 2009 Training Camp

Well, training camp is here as it started yesterday. The Cowboys enter this year’s training camp with a lot of unanswered questions. We all are seeking answers to the following questions:

Who will be the number 2, 3, & 4 wide receivers?

Who will be the starting right cornerback?

Will LB Bobby Carpenter be playing a more active role this year?

How will we ensure that all three of our running backs get carries?

Will the offensive line be able to provide better pass and run blocking?

Will wide receiver Roy Williams be able to put up comparable numbers to that other wide receiver we had?

Will Jason Garrett’s offense be able to get back to where it was two years ago?

Will the special teams be able to perform better under Coach DeCamillis?

These are some of the many questions that training camp should help to provide and yes some of the questions we will not know until the season begins. I believe that this year’s camp will be harder and more will come out of it than did last year. I believe the Cowboys have learned that you get what you put into it.

Yes, last year we started out okay, but we did not finish okay and I believe that training camp instills that work ethic that can carry you through the year. The young players on the team need to step up and play big and I think that will. I hope that we start strong out of the gate and do not let up until we have won the Super Bowl!

Are You ‘Cowboys Obsessed’??

I am. Everywhere I turn, I see something Cowboys. My apartment is filled with a lot Cowboys things. My truck is yellow in color, but I have Cowboys memorabilia all over it from stickers on the back of the truck bed to the steering wheel cover, all Cowboys. At work I have to wear scrubs but I have on Cowboys crocs and a Cowboys watch. My work badge also has a Cowboys pin on it too. I did have to make one scrub top into a Cowboys scrub top by putting a patch on it.. When I am not working, I am wearing something Cowboys. Just last week, I walked into a business and they recognized me because of all my Cowboys clothing I wear. I usually am wearing a Dallas Cowboys hat too. Are you the same way?

It has gotten to the point my fiancee is now a Cowboys fan by just watching me watch the games. She bleeds Blue and Silver just like me. I found that out in the Cowboys/Bills game 2 years ago. Tony had a bad game but Folk won it for us. I was jumping up and down and then looked over and she was doing the same. That’s when I knew she was hooked. Now we have a little bambino on the way. She agreed with me that when the baby is born something to do with the Cowboys will be incorporated into the name. We know what the name will be if it is a boy or girl. But we wont give away that secret right now.

Does anyone feel the same way? Is anyone else ‘Cowboys obsessed’? Maybe someone else is more obsessed than I am. Who knows. But we enjoy our Cowboys and are not afraid to show it. Now the only thing I haven’t done is meet a Dallas Cowboy in person, someday I think I will. But living in Bear country it is slim. In the next few months I will be featured in Dallas Cowboys Star magazine in the fan profile section. My next thing is to get an Cowboys tattoo with my fiancee and kids name in it somewhere. If you would like to see what some of my room looks like go to my myspace page. If your not a friend already become one. If that isn’t obsessed I don’t know what is. Tell me ways you are obsessed with our beloved Cowboys?

How ’bout them Cowboys!

This Might Explain Some Things – NFL Salary Cap

A lot of fans are continuously asking why we aren’t signing Marion Barber – you say ‘do it now’, ‘give him the money!’ Well the truth is the Cowboys don’t have the money because of the salary cap. They have $3.9 million left and are number 30 of 32 in the list of NFL teams money left under the cap. We still need some funds for the draft, in which the Cowboys hope to pick up some future stars.

That’s why they issued Barber the highest tender, it was the best way to keep him safe. God forbid someone makes Barber an offer and the Cowboys have to counter-offer, they will have to move some numbers. If all goes well, Barber will probably get a long term deal this summer or during the next season. Don’t sweat it!

NFL Salary Cap Facts:
2008 numbers: Cap = $116 million, Floor = 85.2% of cap = $98.8 million

In transitions, if a player retires, is traded, or is cut before June 1st, all remaining bonus is applied to the salary cap for the current season. If the payroll change occurs after June 1st, the current cap is unchanged, and the next year’s cap must absorb the entire remaining bonus.

Because of this treatment, NFL contracts almost always include the right to cut a player before the beginning of a season. If a player is cut, his salary for the remainder of his contract is not paid, and never counted against the salary cap for that team. A highly sought-after player signing a long term contract will usually receive a guaranteed signing bonus, thus providing him with financial security even if he is cut before the end of his contract.

Although the following article is about how most teams have more money than they can spend, the Cowboys aren’t really one of those teams. Check out this article.

Barber and Cowboys to Talk This Week

According to reports at the Star-Telegram, the Cowboys are expect to start talks with Marion Barber and his agent this week at the NFL Combine. Barber is a restricted free agent that had a very impressive season this past year and looks to make a long term deal with the Cowboys.

For those of you who remain interested in Darren McFadden, I don’t think this is going to happen. The Cowboys have $13 million left in their salary cap and have to take care of their free agents and draft picks. McFadden would cost the Cowboys a lot of money that they just don’t have to spend. Stranger things have happened but I don’t see it.

Personally, I think the Cowboys should hold on to Marion Barber and draft another running back. They are going to need a backup. Julius Jones is definitely not sticking around and Tyson Thompson did horrible last year, even thought he didn’t get much of a chance. I’m not sure how many running backs are available in free agency, I doubt very many good ones. They are definitely hard to come by.

Lock up Barber! Do it NOW!

Always A True Cowboys Fan

I know that today’s loss to the division rivals has everyone completely distraught. Honestly I am speechless, but I know that I should say something and give everyone a place to get things off their chests.

This hurts. After a record-breaking season filled with such promise and hope, the season comes crashing down. Someone had to lose, and you can argue many reasons why we were the ones that had to say goodbye. But I think rather than count the ‘ifs’, maybe we should look back at the season.

What a wonderful year. Its been a blast. Think about it. Look at Jason Witten, what a year he had. Remember the helmetless run! We could learn alot from that warrior. I guarantee he will hold his head high and not look back at the mistakes, but learn from them and move forward.

Terrell Owens had a wonderful year as well. Marion Barber had a hell of a year, and really a wonderful first half in his first game as a starter. We found a kicker we can finally trust. And we learned we have many offense weapons.

Take a look at the young defense we have. DeMarcus Ware, oh what a beast! Then you throw in Chris Canty and Bradie James, the future looks bright. These guys are only going to develop. Greg Ellis, the sack monster, had a shocking year and went home with an award he can be damn proud of. We have great things to look forward to in years to come.

I know that Tony Romo is going to take a lot of criticism. He’s now 0-2 in the postseason and some may question his abilities and his big contract. But I wont give up on him. It was his first year as a starter. He started off with a bang, and continued to break records and collect wins.

But somewhere in the last part of the season it began to dwindle down. I dont know why, I dont know how, but it did.

I truly believe he has a gift. If he can overcome this, he will be even better next year. What doesn’t kill you, only makes you stronger.

This team has come a long way. Some may even call it a rebuilding year. A new head coach, many new staff members, a new quarterback…. the list goes on. I’m sure we will pick the season apart for weeks to come. But it won’t change the outcome.

The season ended today but our love for the greatest team in the country – America’s team, the Dallas Cowboys – did not end. Hold your head high, wear your colors proudly.

STAY TRUE TO THE SILVER AND BLUE!

God Bless,

Kelly

A Silver and Blue Christmas

This year has definitely been one to remember. Not only has the team been successful, but so has this website I created only a year ago. Maybe they go hand in hand, maybe the team’s success has lead to the success of many things, whatever it is – I am thankful. I am so glad to be a part of this place for Cowboys fans to come together.

I think a lot of us feel the same, this year has been different. We have been able to communicate with Cowboys fans across the nation, even across the world! Whether you believe it or not, the fans make a great difference in the world of sports. We all share a great passion for the silver and blue and we couldn’t be more proud of our ‘Boys.

No matter where the future takes us, we will stand behind this great team like we always have. They have great potential to go all the way, but I say lets take it one game at a time.

From everyone here at lonestarstruck.com, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and look forward to the great years ahead for this phenomenal team.

Injuries Won’t Keep The ‘Boys Down

Last season was one of the best seasons I can ever recall for the Cowboys regarding injuries. It seemed that each week when I would analyze the injury reports prior to each of the Cowboys matchups, I would see 10-12 injuries for our opponent and only 1-2 injuries for our team.

This year seems to be a little bit different already. Sit down everyone, I’m not saying that it’s a dramatic difference only that I’m seeing a few more names on the injury list than last year at this time.

We already know that Terence Newman is a little banged up, and of course there is the Greg Ellis situation. Both missed practice again on Thursday and it’s looking more and more like neither will be ready for the season opener.

I was a little disappointed however, to read that less than 24 hours after being proclaimed healthy, to see Terry Glenn back on the injured list.

It’s sad that now he is going to miss at least the first two games of the season for us with the same right knee that has been bothering him all through training camp and pre season.

It makes me wonder if they rushed him back to practice to soon on Wednesday?

Hopefully Patrick Crayton can step in and improve on the career highs he established last season when he caught 36 passes for 516 yards. Maybe this is Crayton’s time to shine.

One thing is for certain though…

It would take a lot more injuries than this for us to falter against the Giants on Sunday. As a good friend of mine likes to always say… "They are dead where they stand".
