Exciting Times in Cowboy Land

Thinking back to the past few seasons and comparing them with this season, the thing I’m most excited about as I watch the Dallas Cowboys is THEIR excitement! I cannot tell you how great it is as a fan to watch my Cowboys play with actual smiles on their faces, and not just the players – the coaches too. How great is it to see the Cowboys score a touchdown or make a good play and, as the cameras pan over to Wade Phillips, to see him literally jumping for joy and giving high-fives (sometimes painful ones) to his football team?

Not to take anything away from any of our talented, well-known past coaches, who will remain nameless, (starts with P – ends with arcells) but come ON now? So much of how our guys feel is a direct reflection from the men on the sidelines who hold so much of the power.

I don’t know about you, but I feel good when I’m around people who seem happy and excited and I feel bad when I’m around people who suck the positivity out of the atmosphere. It’s easier for our guys to have fun when the coaching staff shows excitement and gives proper attention to good plays and touchdowns.

It’s so nice to see the Dallas Cowboys winning, but to me it’s even better to see them winning and having fun! They are happy to be on the field and doing what they love, scoring points, and making great plays. Give credit to all the coaches on the sidelines for providing a great atmosphere, and motivating the team so that they can play and perform beyond their expectations.

Personally, I REALLY want our guys to go to the Super Bowl and winning another ring would be fantastic. But honestly, I feel like I can wait for the huge accolades because I’m having so much fun as a fan again. I want this feeling to last forever! Long live the Cowboys and cheers to our Boys having fun on the football field again!

Three Phrases of the Game

To be a champion caliber team you must be consistent in all phrases of the game. We all know about Dallas’s offense, Tony Romo with all his weapons, Barber and Jones’s running attack behind our fantastic offensive line. The defense is getting more respect and recognition as they improve every week (not counting the Lions game.) Phrase three is Special teams. I don’t feel like our kick return team gets the credit they deserve.

Miles Austin in his second year makes you sit on the edge of your seat every time he gets the ball. His long return is sixty yards. I just know he is going to break one all the way. Austin is averaging twenty-six yards on eighteen returns.

Tyson Thompson shows he is a talent with his return ability also. Tyson’s average is a little lower than Austin’s at twenty-three.six, but his long return is seventy-two yards.

I look forward to seeing rookie Isaiah Stanback come back from his injury. I have to agree with the Cowboy staff that Stanback is exciting to watch. His long kick return is thirty-five yards but he has only had three returns with a average of twenty-six yards.

Between these three and more recently Miles Austin, the Cowboys have had good field position on most possessions. Of course, it would be a dream come true if we only had punt returns meaning our defense didn’t allow a score! WOW!

With Patrick Crayton and Terence  Newman returning punts, we haven’t had stunning returns but, they average twelve yards per return that equals our opponents. Even though we haven’t returned a punt or kick return for a score with all the talent we have on special teams it will come. They are saving it for the playoffs!

Although special teams need to improve in some areas they show improvement each week just as the offense and defense.

What I respect about the 2007 Cowboys is the way coach Phillips has blended all three phases to work together as a team. The media and fans shine the light on certain players but, they know that it takes every player in the locker room to win and that is why we are the NFC East Champs!

Its All About The W’s

More W’s Then Just The One For Win!

How about the one for WOW!

With Sunday’s heart stopping victory, The Cowboys brought home the NFC East Title for the first time since 1998. It most definitely wasn’t a pretty win and there may have been a little help from Lady Luck, But A Win is a Win. I’ll take it anyway they can get it.

Then theres the one for WADE!

Head Coach Wade Phillips has taken full blame for the flat performance that was shown by the Cowboys Defense. He claims he didn’t  fully prepare them for the run and had to try and readjust the defense to what the Lions were giving them. He also stated that Cowboys corner-backs Terrence Newman and Anthony Henry may have been rusty from the switch back to thier original positions in the back Field. With what he is saying only leads me to the next W.

which is WAKE UP DEFENSE!

There where a number of plays that lead me to believe that the Dallas defense was shell shocked by the way the Lions offense came out swinging. The defense has to be ready for anything any offense brings them. The backfield defense cannot be sitting back waiting on the receivers to catch the ball and come to them. They have to attack the ball.  One thing that stood out to me on the defense that made all the hype of Kitna’s comments from last year worth it was my next W

WARE!

With 3:22 left in the first quarter, Ware was penalized with a personal foul for ruffing the passer. It hurt the defensive stand but it was well worth it to see Ware slam Kitna on his butt after the film flam Kitna was saying last year of the defense. I thought for sure that would get the Dallas defense the spark it needed. I think it only lit a fire underneath Kitna. Thats the way it goes sometimes in the NFL.

Last but certainly not least WITTEN

Despite a fourth-quarter fumble at the Lions’ one yard line on a drive that would have given Dallas the lead, Witten set a franchise record with 15 receptions and a career high 138 yards receiving. Only adding to his glory of the day Witten hauls in 4 of the last ten plays on there 83-yard game winning drive, the last of the four for the game sealing touchdown score! Truly the Best Tight-End in the NFL. He keeps playing like he is and that may turn into all of NFL History!

How Bout Dem Cowboys!!!!!!!

Getting Credit, Where Credit Is Due

Cowboys’ Phillips voted Motorola NFL Coach of the Week

Cowboys coach Wade Phillips has been selected the Motorola NFL Coach of the Week for Week 13. Phillips led the Cowboys to a 37-27 win over the Packers, as Dallas improved to 11-1. Phillips was selected as Motorola NFL Coach of the Week from among three finalist by voters on NFL.com. The other finalists were Panthers coach John Fox and Chargers coach Norv Turner.

In January, voting will be held on NFL.com to determine the Motorola NFL Coach of the Year. I’m sure Phillips will be on there as well, so everyone get ready to vote and get him in there.

The Cowboys have been dominating the league in awards this week.

T.O. got NFC offensive player of the Month, Romo with two awards, one for NFC offensive player of the week, and second came from Fed Exs air award winner for week 13.

Now Wade’s getting in on the action! Congrats to him!  He has most certainly earned it!

Four games left in the season and now the Cowboys are starting to get the respect they fully deserve!  The league is finally Giving Credit Where Credit Is Due!  It is most definitely Christmas Season! Which one of you fanatics out there asked for that one this Christmas?  (Chuck raises hand)!

Have a Great Weekend everyone! I want to be able to hear you guys on Sunday!  loud And Proud!  Let the Whole World hear us!!  Go Cowboys!!

Romo Named NFC Player of the Week

That’s right people, if you haven’t already heard the buzz Tony Romo has been named NFC Player of the Week. What an honor, it’s his second time to get the award this year and his fourth time in his short tenure as a starter.

In my opinion, no one is more deserving. Romo is breaking records all over the place and proving to everyone that he is one of the elite QBs in the league. Last week’s game had been talked about for months. But with Brett Favre leaving with a couple of interceptions and an injury, and Romo leaving with 19-of-30 completions, 309 yards and 4 touchdowns, no one could have predicted that outcome.

This has been a magical year and it starts with the brightest star in Dallas, Mr. Tony Romo. Anyone who ever questioned his abilites surely won’t do so now. He has proven himself time after time, and as long as he keeps playing with all of his heart, you can rest assured it will lead to nothing but victories. Just sit back and enjoy the show Cowboys fans!

By the way, Rom has also been nominated for the FedEx Air & Ground Offensive Player of the Week at nfl.com. You can vote for him here.

Adding Fuel To The Fire

As with any group of people or team, you mess with one, you have messed with them all. The Cowboys are no different and they are not a team you want to add fuel to their fire! I mean, they are ON FIRE already! Kitna needs to know one thing, "This is not last years team!" They have had time to get comfortable with one another and they ARE a powerful force. NO DOUBT!

Now, I like Kitna. As a matter of fact, he was my fantasy QB pick second only to my ultimate favorite, Romo. Kitna should be concerned about his own team, personal stats and the upcoming game against the Big Bad Cowboys! Kitna has let me down as a fantasy football player. While he is throwing at a rate that puts him in the 10th spot in the league, his team needs help with the run. The Kittens won’t be able to run on the Cowboys and I don’t recommend that they try many of the passes in their current game plan. The Cowboys WILL snatch those right out of the sky!

As a fantasy player, I find myself scrambling for a decent QB to get me through this week. I can’t afford a loss right now and the Cowboys will stop the kitty-cats! Kitna’s fantasy points have been low but against the Cowboys, he doesn’t stand a fantasy chance! While the stats between these two teams do not sound promising, us Cowboy Fans know one thing FOR SURE: this is not the same Cowboy team as last season and ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN!!

The Cowboys are 11-10 all-time against Detroit, though the Lions have won nine of the past 14 . . .  Since 2001 Detroit has blocked 20 kicks, including 14 field goals, most in the league. Rogers is responsible for 11 of those blocks . . . The Cowboys own just a 4-8 record playing at Detroit . . . While the Cowboys come into the game with the eighth-ranked rushing offense, averaging 121.4 yards a game, the Lions enter dead last with their 77.2 average.

I don’t know how many times I can say this in one blog but I will say it again….

THIS IS NOT THE SAME COWBOYS TEAM!

This is clearly a team of winners! This is a team of players that eat, drink, sleep and play the game. A team, that, on their days off, they WANT to be at work! Now, who wants to WORK on their day off? Give me a day off and see how quick I can disappear off the planet!! HA! YA know!?

Cowboys win this road game 31-20.  GO COWBOYS!!

On a side note, I would like to send a shout out to the Steelers!! Go Steelers! Beat New England!! My husband disagrees with me on this one. He wants New England to be undefeated when we meet them again later this year. Not me! I want to see the Steelers go buck wild on them! I don’t believe the Jets, Miami or the Giants can beat New England but I think the Steelers can AND WILL make that happen! I will be watching and cheering them on! I wanted the Ravens to do it and they were SOOO CLOSE! That was a great game from start to finish! To be honest, I don’t like the Steelers but my dislike for New England is greater. Nothing would please me more than to see the Steelers spank the Patriots!

Also, in case you missed it, you can see my slideshow from the GB @ Dallas game by clicking here! I had a BLAST at that game and I can hardly wait for the final season home game against Philly! I don’t believe that will be the last time I get to share pictures from the game with you. I must have been a good girl this year because Santa gave me my Christmas gift early: TICKETS TO THE PLAY-OFFS AT TEXAS STADIUM!! Yeah, baby!! Take me to the Play-Offs, Cowboys!! You were the only thing on my Christmas wish-list!

1.) No Coal 2.) Tickets to the Play-offs 3.) Cowboys help me be able to use those tickets 4.) Cowboys are NFC Champs 5.) Cowboys win the Super Bowl!!

That isn’t asking for much! hehehe!!

I hope you enjoy the slideshow! Remember comments are always welcome! Don’t forget to make your predictions and set your fantasy teams early! There is a game on Thursday! Good luck to you all and…

GOOOO COWBOYS!!!!

NFL Star Sean Taylor Loses Fight For Life

Washington Redskin safety Sean Taylor passed away early this morning after injuries suffered from a gunshot wound. The 24-year old Pro football player was shot at home during an apparent armed burglary. The gunshot was fired at his leg and damged his femoral artery causing significant blood loss. Taylor had been airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, FL early Monday.

At one point Monday night there was hope after Taylor squeezed a nurse’s hand. However, he never regained consciousness. Doctors aren’t sure how he squeezed the hand, some say he may have been trying to say goodbye.

Taylor’s girlfriend and 1-year old daughter were also in the house at the time of the shooting, fortunately neither were hurt.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family at this troubled time. May he find peace with the Lord.

The Future Home of the Dallas Cowboys

While in Dallas for Thanksgiving, I decided to take a short visit over to Arlington to get some photos and a first hand look at the new Cowboys Stadium currently under construction. I was so amazed at this "monster" of a stadium that is taking shape. I have seen the virtual tour online and artist renderings but when you are right there, well I just can’t explain how it feels.

It is still somewhat of a skeleton, but its definitely coming along quite well. After all is said and done the stadium will span 2.3 million square feet, tall enough to house the Statue of Liberty. It will be the largest domed structure in the world, and house 80,000 people with the capability of expanding for 100,000 people. Of course, we’ve all heard these statistics but to see it still blows my mind.

I’m very happy that I took the opportunity to visit the future site of "The House that Romo Built". I plan to visit again as it progresses and compare the photos. This is definitely history in the making. If you live in the Dallas area and have not checked it out, I certainly recommend taking some time to do so.

From Romo to Owens, We’ve Come A Long Way

What a great feeling it is to be a Cowboys fan! Can you believe we are 9-1! We have many reasons to be happy, and very few to complain about. But I have a huge complaint I want to share with all of you. Where is the love? Where is the respect?

The Dallas Cowboys have won 9 of their last 10 games. They have more than proven what they can do, and done it with class. But everytime you turn on ESPN or check out news around the internet, they are being bashed. Excuses are being thrown out there, when in reality the Cowboys are definitely the team to beat in the NFC.

Tony Romo has been a blessing. He has come in every game and played his heart out. I won’t say he hasn’t made mistakes, but I dare you to try and give me a time when he didn’t get back up and make up for it. He plays with everything he has until the last second of every game. As for certain commentators who say, "Sure, who couldn’t succeed with the weapons he has on the field…". Well, I think we all know thats just not how it works. We had the same receiving corps last year, (pre-Tony Romo) and we did not have the same results. Romo is definitely proving game after game that he is one of the elite quarterbacks in the league today. And Cowboy fans, how exciting is that? It’s only his first year! We have alot to look forward to.

The player who deserves the most respect, is getting the least. Yes, I’m talking about Terrell Owens. In the offseason, I believe Owens promised us 20 touchdowns this season. Well right now he’s up to 12, it’s very possible he could go over 20. He also has 1,028 yards, averaging over 100 yards per game with 6 games left to play. So tell me, where is the love? I understand his past, and his ego and everything that has given him this reputation, but he is doing everything right this time around. He brings a fire to this team, he gets out there and gets his teammates pumped. I know you seen him on the sidelines after his touchdowns, he was fired up! T.O. keep doin’ whatcha doin’, we love ya man!

No matter what this team does, people will either love them or hate them. It’s always been that way, that will never change. My point is all about RESPECT. Keep on hating, it only makes play harder!

HOW BOUT THEM COWBOYS!!!

Injury Report: Week 11

Out:
WR Terry Glenn (knee)

Questionable:
G Leonard Davis (ankle)

Probable:
CB Anthony Henry (ankle)
WR Isaiah Stanback (shoulder)

Despite rumors of sightings of Terry Glenn in the Cowboys locker room, Terry Glenn is still OUT! And don’t expect to see him next week either. IF he comes back at all this season, it may not be until the playoffs.

Guard Leonard Davis sprained his ankle in practice on Wednesday. The good news is that he walked off the field on his own following the injury, the bad news is if he can’t play Cory Procter will take his place. Procter has never played a game at guard. Davis is a huge reason, Romo is having such a fantastic year.

Anthony Henry is slowly coming back from his ankle injury in late September. He has played in the last two weeks but has yet to start a game since the injury.

Rookie Isaiah Stanback is listed as probable after injurying his shoulder two weeks ago during his NFL debut. If they are not sure he can handle returns, then he will probably be inactive Sunday. Stanback took over Tyson Thompson’s job on special teams two weeks ago. Last week Austin Miles and Nathan Jones shared returns.

Just to clarify Tyson Thompson is not hurt. He has been demoted due to lack of production on special teams. In 2007, Thompson averages just 23.6 yards on kickoff returns, which isn’t bad but isn’t great either.

Remembering Crazy Ray This Weekend

Ever since I could ever remember, Wilford Jones also known as "Crazy Ray", had graced the stands at the Cowboys games. The first time I remember seeing him, was the first time I ever saw the Cowboys and the Redskins playing each other at the Cotton Bowl (for those of you not old enough to remember or know, where the Cowboys first played).

Through the years I became accustomed to seeing him at just about every game, but sadly enough, Crazy Ray past away this year. I think that it would only be fitting that a moment of silence be held in Ray’s memory before the start of the game and that the game be played in his honor.  I will be making the same suggestion to folk on DC.com. To me, it is something so minimal, to someone that made the game so memorable to me and so many others.

God Bless Crazy Ray.
