Morning Radio and the Joy of a Quiet Offseason

Driving into work this morning I was flipping between Fox Sports Radio and ESPN Radio on XM. Most of the talk was about baseball and March Madness, but for a few minutes I heard some ranting regarding the new Jets/Giants stadium and their dilemma about who will open the season in the new home. After a coin toss by the commissioner it was decided that the Giants will open the stadium on Sunday September 12th and the Jets will open on the following Monday night to the huge MNF crowd.

First of all, can you imagine your team sharing a stadium with another team, even if they were in the other conference? I still find it ridiculous that they aren’t even in the state of New York. I guess some could argue that the Dallas Cowboys don’t play in Dallas but Arlington is a hell of a lot closer than say Louisiana or Oklahoma.

Another topic discussed on my morning drive radio programming also featured the Jets and their newly acquired running back LaDainian Tomlinson. The poor guy has gone from being the best in the biz to being a 3rd string back that fans hope they never see on the field. I’ve always liked LT, and I find it really sad how the world of sports works sometimes.

It seems the Jets really are trying to make some noise this offseason, but none of their moves have impressed me yet. In case you missed it they grabbed former Cowboy Nick Folk to a one year deal back in February. Their veteran kicker Jay Feely isn’t worried at all and expects a new deal despite the signing.

As for the Cowboys, everything is really quiet right now. Next month comes the draft and the release of the 2010 schedule.

For now you can relax and enjoy Spring Break, only five or so months until Preseason football… ;)

Weekly Game Balls: Week 7

How ’bout them Cowboys! Huge win for our boys in blue and silver last Sunday. This win might be a sign of things to come.

This week’s offensive game ball goes to Miles Austin, again.

How can we deny another game ball to him two games in a row? Miles is proving why we got rid of T.O.

Austin has the game breaking speed and excellent route running that the Cowboys have been lacking for a while.

Austin finished the day with 171 yards on only six catches. He scored two touchdowns along the way. The speedster from little known Monmouth University has given the teams of the NFL a reason to take notice.

We should give Jerry Jones some credit for finding 2 diamonds in the rough. Miles and Tony.

Great work once again Miles!

This week’s defensive/special teams game ball goes to DeMarcus Ware.

The sack flood gates have opened!

The Cowboys sackmaster celebrated his new deal with two sacks and heavy quarterback pressure for the whole game.

Ware also had a forced fumble.

He is a leader on defense and deserved every penny Jerry paid for him.

DeMarcus also finished the day with 2 solo tackles. He is the cornerstone of the new improved defense.

All quarterbacks should be running for their football lives. DeMarcus is here to stay.

Congratulations to Austin and Ware for their great contribution to the victory.

Honorable Mention: Tony Romo, Mike Jenkins

Warner To Stay in Arizona

One of the main stories this off-season I have decided to follow was that of Kurt Warner and his future with Arizona after leading them to the Super Bowl in the 2008 season. So when I seen that Warner had re-signed with the Cardinals on a two-year $23 Million contract I had to write about this and talk about what I thought about this deal.

Here are some details on Warners contract.

The deal includes a $15 million signing bonus. Combined with a $4 million salary for the first year of the contract, $19 million is guaranteed. Warner does believe this is his final NFL contract.

Warner had knew he wanted to be in Arizona even when he was visiting the 49ers. Warner said: “I told my wife probably 45 minutes into it that I just felt God say, ‘You’re supposed to be in Arizona,”‘ Warner said, “and I told her that. She tried to tell me to stay open, but He just continued to confirm it.”

Warner said the 49ers made him an offer that was larger than the one he agreed to in Arizona. But on the flight back from San Francisco, he said he called his agent, Mark Bartelstein, and told him to do what was necessary to get the Cardinals deal done.

Warner also cares very much about his fellow members of Arizona here is what I found to prove how much he really loves his team.

Earlier in the negotiations, Warner had offered to give $1 million per year of his contract toward a new deal for Boldin, but that provision wasn’t in the final agreement. Boldin has asked to be traded because he believes the Cardinals failed to follow through on a promise for a new contract a year ago. Graves said the team still plans to eventually address Boldin’s desire for a long-term contract.

Warner started all 20 games for Arizona last season. In 16 regular-season games, he completed 67 percent of his throws for 4,583 yards and 30 touchdowns, with 14 interceptions. He finished second in the NFL in completions, completion percentage and passing yards.

In four playoff games, Warner was even better, completing 68 percent of his passes for 1,147 yards and 11 touchdowns, with three interceptions.

But for one extremely costly interception, Warner was brilliant in Arizona’s 27-23 loss to Pittsburgh in the Super Bowl, completing 31 of 43 passes for 377 yards and three touchdowns.

In addition, Warner was named the NFL Man of the Year for his off-the-field contributions, as well as his playing excellence.

These details were found on the NFL website. All I can say is congrats Kurt on deciding that Arizona was where you where meant to retire at in the NFL. What I have to say on Arizonas behalf is that they made a smart move signing Kurt back on the revised deal his agent offered because he almost whent to another NFC team which could have came back to haunt them in the regular season and or on the playoff road to the Super Bowl in 2009.

So I now ask you all to leave your comments on Warners deal and if you have debates about the details or my opinions I have stated please let me know I am deeply interested in hearing your opinions about the issues I write about and the rest of LSS write about.
