Cowboys Extra Points: Free Agency, Draft and Schedules

Sam Hurd is the most recent player to sign his tender. Still nothing from Miles Austin or Gerald Sensabaugh, however both showed up in Valley Ranch for the off-season workout program. ESPN Dallas explains free agency rules and deadlines.

Robert Brewster has been cleared by the medical staff to return to football. The offensive lineman’s best position would be right tackle or guard. Brewster was drafted in the 3rd round of the ’09 draft but sat out the entire season due to a torn pectoral muscle.

The 2010 NFL Draft begins this Thursday, April 22nd at 6:30 p.m. CST. The first round will be held Thursday, the second and third rounds on Friday starting a 5 p.m. CST and rounds 4-7 on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. CST. We will have a live thread with continuous updates for the draft. See ya then!

The Dallas Cowboys official website has been redesigned. In my opinion its clean and bright, almost too white, and will take some getting used to as far as the layout. Check out the new design here.

The NFL will announce the complete 2010 schedules tomorrow at 6 p.m. CST on NFL Network and

Still No Love For The Cowboys???

As I sit here Friday night watching Sportscenter, NFL Network and Sportsnation I am getting more and more frustrated. For some reason NO ONE is giving the Cowboys any kind of a chance to win this game against the Eagles Saturday night. Have they not seen what the Cowboys have been doing the last few weeks. Have they not seen how the defense has been DOMINATING the line of scrimmage. I am so tired of not getting respect that is deserved.

To me this has got to be the biggest game Dallas has played in the last few years. They need to go out and show the critics, no wait, go out and SHUT THE CRITICS UP!!!!!!!!!!!  I am so sick and tired of no one believing in what the Cowboys are doing right now. They posted BACK TO BACK shut outs for the first time in the history of their existence.

Everyone keeps saying again and again DeSean Jackson is the better receiver and will have a better game. Well not only do I say otherwise but here are a few stats to back me up:

DeSean Jackson has started EVERY game this season for the Eagles and Miles Austin only started after sitting the first 4 games of the season.

Jackson has 63 receptions with 9 touchdowns for a total of 1,167 yards

Austin has 81 receptions with 11 touchdowns for a total of 1,320 yards

Now to me, numbers tell the truth, Miles Austin is a MUCH better reciever than DeSean Jackson. So, let’s go Boys. Lets show everyone out there that this year is not like the past, we mean business and we are making a statement. Bring it home Dallas!

DoughboyCowboy’s Cowboy Round-Up

First off, Michael Irvin is on Dancing with the Stars. I was very excited about this. With his popularity and his moves from the football field, I think he is the man to beat. If he wins, next up is Troy. Go Playmaker of the Stars!

OK, now for the Cowboys… I don’t take too much into pre-season but it is nice to see the players get off the rust in a live game. Tony Romo looked good. His first series was off. But the way he moved the offense in his second series was great. Showing a little bit of what could be a great season, he spread the ball around and utilized all the weapons available to him.

Felix JonesAs soon as I seen Felix Jones run a few yards. I admit I said this out loud, “Felix I missed you”. The offensive will be awesome. This year I am really focusing on Witten and hoping he has a spectacular year. There is a hidden agenda with that one, more of that later.

The defense looked OK. While the 2nd and 3rd strings gave up a lot of points, the first team looked good. I am excited about Anthony Spencer and DeMarcus Ware. The opposition wont know where DeMarcus will be coming from. Look out for a top 5 defense.

It was nice to see Keon Lattimore get a few reps too. I think he is a sleeper for this team if he makes the full roster. Jesse Holley was also playing in a few plays too. It was nice to see number 16 running down the field. Sometimes players who are trying for a spot on the team don’t play that much. We’ll see if he completes the dream. I still think Hawkins should of made the team instead.

I am looking forward to this Friday’s game. I wont be able to see it here in Illinois, but it will be on NFL Network on Saturday. I want to see the inside of the new stadium. Look for a great season to come!

Each Monday I will talk about the Cowboys and what I think about the team. If anyone can think of a better title let me know. I am looking forward to a great Cowboys season! – DoughboyCowboy

Who Should Be In the Ring of Honor Next???

I have tried to debate this for awhile now with people that I know, but can’t seem to get anyone to bite back. Maybe now is the time. Who should Jerry Jones put in the Ring of Honor in the new stadium? It has been a long time since the Triplets where inducted into it. I have my opinions, which I don’t think a lot of people will agree on, but it is my opinion. I will throw out a few names for you and see if you agree.

My first choice is Danny White. Yes, I know he never took the team to the Super Bowl but he had some really big shoes to fill with the retiring Roger Staubach. He did take them to some Championship games but never really over the hump. He also played another role in punting for the Cowboys. I think he has been given a bad rap for not getting the boys the Super Bowl. But most people think, Danny will always but the butt of jokes for not being the QB that Roger was.

My second choice is Drew Pearson, the original 88. I kind of forgot about him but the Top Ten Cowboys List on NFL Network reminded me that he isn’t in the Ring of Honor. Who was Roger’s go-to guy? Drew. Who made the most famous Hail Mary catch? Drew. When Roger needed some yardage good ole 88 was there. Shoot, I think he should be in the Hall of Fame. What a great talent he was.

Who would you choose for the Ring of Honor with the current roster? Tony Romo, Jason Witten, DeMarcus Ware? Who knows. Tony won’t if he doesn’t win it all, just like Danny. That’s why I hear some fans put Tony and Danny in the same sentence. Jason is a solid TE for the Boys. If he keeps playing the way he has it shouldn’t be a debate about that one. And then there is DeMarcus ‘Sack Master’ Ware. Out of the three he should be the next great who is put up around the ring of the stadium.

You could agree or disagree with some of my choices or have some of your own. But in the end we have had some great teams and players throughout the years. Enjoy the memories and the future seasons to come. And last but not least – How ’bout them Cowboys!!

Third Place in the NFC East?

Seeing how training camp hasn’t started, and the NFL Network needs a continuous stream of new stories to run, football predictions always finds it’s way into their programming lineup.

That’s exactly what the topic was between Deion Sanders, Jamie Dukes, Marshall Faulk and Warren Sapp the other day.

The panel talked about what we lost and what we gained. Mostly it was about no T.O and how Roy Williams isn’t that good. And of course a dash of Romo bashing for good measure.

All in all it was basically the Boys’ have a long road in front of them. Jamie Dukes said “11, 10 win team” while Faulk, Sapp and Sanders said “8-8/9-8, third in the NFC East.” Brian Baldinger said the same a bit later, with Rich Eisen questioning all of it.

The truth is we lost a good wide-out/headache and this is really Romo’s time to shine. But by far we’re not a third place in the east.

To me the whole NFC East is hurting right now. The Eagles lost their team leader in Brian Dawkins, the Giants lost Plaxico, and the Redskins…they’re the Redskins… they suck. The table so far is wide open. Even the Skins might have a chance, the way things look.

We can say anything right? The last thing we should worry about is what others think…

Lets prove the NFL world wrong by being the greatest team in the world.

Let’s Go Boys’!!!

Veteran Star, Rookie Pro Bowler

Prior to this past season Greg Ellis never finished a season with more than nine sacks. Despite coming off a big injury in 2006, Ellis had an astonishing performance finishing with 12 1/2 sacks in 2007. He was awarded NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year for his amazing year that didn’t even begin until week 4.

During the off season last year, a lot of people wondered about Ellis’ allegiance to the Cowboys. He complained openly about wanting a contract renegotiation. Initially, he did not get his wish but right before his debut since his injury, $2 million was added to Ellis’ contract.

In his ten years with the Cowboys Ellis has had some bumps along the way, but in the end he has always come through as a dedicated player. He is known as a mentor and a role model on the field and in the locker room.

You’ve got to give credit to a veteran who can come off an injury like he did and have his best season as a professional football player. Ellis was honored to be finally be selected to play in Hawaii.

"It’s a great feeling to be honored, to be going to the Pro Bowl," Ellis said. "You can’t put too much on it. A lot of guys like myself that have never been and they should’ve gone, in my opinion. But when you’re number is called to go, it’s a tremendous honor."

Once again, congratulations to Greg Ellis, its been a long time coming!

NFL Network talks with Cowboys LB Greg Ellis and S Roy Williams

T.O. is a GO

It’s been a long interesting week. The question of Terrell Owens status has been lingering since December 22nd when he left the game with an ankle sprain. Owens has been an essential element in the Cowboys success this year, and losing him would be devasting. But not to worry my friends, he’s playing.

In an exclusive interview with Deion Sanders yesterday, Owens said confidently that he will play and not only that but he will play at a "high level".

"I’m going to play," the Cowboys receiver told the NFL Network’s Deion Sanders, who asked what level Owens will play at.

"At a high level. I’m not worried about nothing," Owens responded before adding his trademark line, "Get your popcorn ready."

I really don’t think anything was going to keep him from this game. Owens eats, sleeps, breathes football, it’s his life. He is constantly training and working out, getting prepared for the next game.

The Cowboys have worked hard this year to be where they are. You could easily argue that no one wants to win this game more than Terrell Owens. Don’t underestimate him, he will prove you wrong almost everytime.
