Cowboys To Split Training Camp And Return To Oxnard

According to the Dallas Morning News,  Stephen Jones confirmed an earlier report that the Dallas Cowboys are seriously pursuing a plan to split training camp this year between Oxnard, California and the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. Speaking about the yet to be finalized deal that will allow the Cowboys to train in Oxnard for two weeks, the Cowboys Vice President said,

“There’s a good chance we’re there. We’re getting everything put to bed. We get a lot out of it. We get great coverage. I think it gives the players a nice little getaway … I think it will spice things up, getting outside in that cool, fresh air. Obviously we’re not at a point to announce the deal is done, but we’re fired up about it.”

A couple of weeks ago, team owner Jerry Jones was very enthusiastic about splitting training camp and was hoping that the NFL would accommodate the team and schedule a pre-season game on the West Coast to tie in with the move.

“It’s got a good chance of happening,” Jones said. “There are several logistical things to weigh, but I’m optimistic about it.”

According to another report on by Matt Mosley, Jerry Jones believes the Cowboys can help fill the void of Los Angeles not having an NFL team and that it would also represent a very good marketing opportunity for America’s Team.

The plan would be to open training camp in San Antonio around July 24 because of the team’s inclusion in the August 8th Hall of Fame Game, and then travel to Oxnard for two weeks. A final decision will be made when the preseason opponents are announced.

I’m looking forward to seeing the Cowboys return to Oxnard which I prefer to the closed in atmosphere at the Alamodome, and I do agree with Stephen Jones in that it’s a nice getaway for the players.

Time To Piss Off The Californians

I know this next statement is going to make many people angry with me but it’s been bugging me for awhile now.

The Dallas Cowboys Training Camp should always be held in Texas. Period.

It’s true that the Dallas Cowboys are America’s Team. Just look at the Hard Knocks ratings. They were through the roof. It was one of the highest rated TV shows HBO has had in a while. Yet, what bothered me the most when watching Hard Knocks was that the Cowboys were in sunny California instead of the confines of the Alamodome in San Antonio. I know that it’s the City of San Antonio’s fault that the Cowboys are not there as well this year so I really shouldn’t be whining but it bothers me a whole bunch that I was not able to travel to San Antonio this year to see the Boys in Training Camp.

Believe me when I say this as well, I wrote the Alamodome director, scheduler, San Antonio mayor and city councilmen on the dissapointment and lost revenue the City of San Antonio lost due to scheduling a church convention at the Alamodome during the proposed Cowboys Training Camp this year which cause Jerry Jones to move Training Camp to Oxnard. I was pissed and still am about that. The Dallas Cowboys belong in Texas. Not in sunny and shaky California. You all in California already have 3 NFL franchises to go look at all you want. Now, we rented you a 4th? Shame on you California for being greedy.

How about this Cali? We will send you Mickey Spagnola, beat writer, and a bucket of hot wings from Wing Stop for the next 20 years and you will let us keep the Cowboys where they belong? In Texas. Speaking of Micky Spagnola, I wrote him a nice little email on how I felt about his article on why the Cowboys should call Oxnard home forever during Training Camp. I don’t think he is going to be happy or laugh about it. I will just leave it at that. Sorry if you guys outside of the State of Texas don’t agree with me but many Texans do. MANY! Peace ’til next time!

Talk Back Tuesdays

 5.8 Earthquake Felt At Oxnard!

I just heard on 103.3 ESPN radio that there was a pretty huge earthquake felt at the Cowboys Training Camp. Reports are saying there were no injuries reported thus far, but some are shaking up from the ordeal.

I myself believe this Quake is due to the massive amount of weight from the offensive and defensive line.  :)

Cowboys are letting the L.A. area know they are there!

Your Time To Chime

I’m gonna switch gears this week. I’m sure everyone has been keeping up to date with all the things going on in Training Camp – the injuries, whose getting the best of who, and how the newbies are doing.

I have lingering issues on a few key topics that have been put on the back burner due to the excitement of TC.  I would like for you, the masses, to chime in on these issues and give your opinion with mine.

My first issue is this ongoing speculation that Jason Garrett will be replacing Phillips after this season regardless of a Super Bowl win.

Some are reporting that Phillips is the head coach for the primary fact of getting Garrett ready to launch.

Others report that if he wins a playoff game then he will stay.

I can understand that reporters will throw anything out there to have a story to write about, but MAN!  This has got to weigh heavy on Phillip’s mind.

I can see these things coming up like over halfway through the season if there losing, but at least give the man a chance to redeem himself.

These things should not even be brought up this early into Training Camp.

Some people look at the coaching staff and assume that the moves that were made were made around Garrett. Wade didn’t bring them in. So therefore Wade is gone after this year.  It’s got me puzzled.

I feel that the players have a good chemistry with Phillips. I haven’t seen nor heard of any ill will toward him at all!

Maybe this is the way to win a Super Bowl. Hold the coaches job over his head and he will produce. Hey It worked for the Giants!

Let me know your thoughts and opinions on this issue. Could it Happen? Could it Not?
