Back To The Future

I was sitting at my house earlier in the week watching ESPN Classic featuring the 1991 Cowboys vs Falcons. Although Troy Aikman was not in the game due to an injury, I saw Emmit Smith, Michael Irvin and “MOOSE” Johnston and the way they moved up and down the field and the way the defense took over and controlled every aspect of the game.

Sunday as I was sitting there watching the Cowboys DESTROY the Falcons on defense, I had to remind myself that I was not still watching that same game on ESPN Classic. This was the 2009 Cowboys playing a great game. We dominated on the line and got to the quarterback several times during the game. Yes, it was a rocky start giving them that first drive and touchdown, but when Phillips challenged the defense they stepped up and performed like we knew they could. It was all over but the crying for the Falcons at that point.

As for the offense, T. whO.??? Miles Austin is the name we are and SHOULD be talking about. Jerry Jones said himself, “He has the big play making abilities”. Well that has been proven 2 weeks in a row. Tony Romo is looking like he did last couple of years and seems to be having fun again. Yes once again they looked great, but that has happened before this season.

Don’t get me wrong, I am just as much of a die hard fan as all of us out there. Sitting next to my dad on the couch screaming together as the Cowboys scored. Or even better, when the Cowboys score you pick up your phone, call your dad and when he answers, you both just start screaming then hang up. NO WORDS NECESSARY!! Those are the great phone calls we all love to make. But just like Kelly said, we have to be truthful, and realize there are kinks that need to be worked out.

Penalties are obviously our biggest concern. One thing that needs to be brought to the field, locker room, practice field and everywhere else is discipline. Once that is established and they stop making all the mistakes, I really believe they will have a strong chance at making a very strong push this year. LETS GO COWBOYS!!!!!!!

Cowboys Swagger

Do you think the Cowboys have swagger this year? I know the games haven’t been played yet, but I have confidence in this team. At first I didn’t think addition by subtraction was good. The Cowboys have now convinced me. The most optimal word is IF this year. The defense will be just as good or even better. Teams will not know where Ware will be coming from. I see DeMarcus getting the sack record this year.

Roy Williams (safety) is gone, but he was never a really good cover man anyway. He was always getting beat on 1 on 1 situations. The two sophomore players, Jenkins and Scandrick, will step up and be a force in the secondary this season. Brookings has played in Phillips’ scheme before. That should be a smooth transition for him. The Cowboys defense will be top 5, at least.

As for the offense, it is Tony’s team. Williams is good at routes and has sure hands. Witten is probably if not the best tight end the Cowboys ever had. Crayton runs great routes too. I have seen in games past that some WRs give up on their routes. You know who I am talking about. The 3-headed monster of Barber, Jones, and Choice will give defensive players fits. Austin will come into his own, if injuries don’t plague him this year. Tony needs to cut down on mental mistakes. He has shown flashes of what a great Quarterback should be.  This is his year to shine. Time for the Cowboys to be Romo-friendly. Whatever that means….

My prediction for this coming season at 10-6 If everything happens the way it should. Like I said IF. I know injuries happen throughout the season. But, I am excited for the upcoming season. I see a Cowboys Swagger about them this year.

How ’bout them Cowboys!

Talk Back Tuesdays

 5.8 Earthquake Felt At Oxnard!

I just heard on 103.3 ESPN radio that there was a pretty huge earthquake felt at the Cowboys Training Camp. Reports are saying there were no injuries reported thus far, but some are shaking up from the ordeal.

I myself believe this Quake is due to the massive amount of weight from the offensive and defensive line.  :)

Cowboys are letting the L.A. area know they are there!

Your Time To Chime

I’m gonna switch gears this week. I’m sure everyone has been keeping up to date with all the things going on in Training Camp – the injuries, whose getting the best of who, and how the newbies are doing.

I have lingering issues on a few key topics that have been put on the back burner due to the excitement of TC.  I would like for you, the masses, to chime in on these issues and give your opinion with mine.

My first issue is this ongoing speculation that Jason Garrett will be replacing Phillips after this season regardless of a Super Bowl win.

Some are reporting that Phillips is the head coach for the primary fact of getting Garrett ready to launch.

Others report that if he wins a playoff game then he will stay.

I can understand that reporters will throw anything out there to have a story to write about, but MAN!  This has got to weigh heavy on Phillip’s mind.

I can see these things coming up like over halfway through the season if there losing, but at least give the man a chance to redeem himself.

These things should not even be brought up this early into Training Camp.

Some people look at the coaching staff and assume that the moves that were made were made around Garrett. Wade didn’t bring them in. So therefore Wade is gone after this year.  It’s got me puzzled.

I feel that the players have a good chemistry with Phillips. I haven’t seen nor heard of any ill will toward him at all!

Maybe this is the way to win a Super Bowl. Hold the coaches job over his head and he will produce. Hey It worked for the Giants!

Let me know your thoughts and opinions on this issue. Could it Happen? Could it Not?

Is Roy Williams Unfit for Phillips 3-4 Scheme?

Reading an article at Dallas Morning News, I found some news that was a little concerning. Greg Ellis quoted  Roy Williams saying that he doesn’t think he fits the defense.

"He said, ‘Greg, this defense does not fit me. I don’t fit in well with this defense at all,’" Ellis said. "So when he told me that, I was like, ‘Well, man, it’s still new. Get used to it and it’ll probably be fine for you.’" And obviously I think it came to be true. Just like he said, he doesn’t fit what’s going on here in Dallas right now.

"Now maybe this year, if they decide to keep him for this season, Wade and them will kind of adjust some things to fit him better."

I think we’ve all noticed the difference in Roy Williams and its not for the good. Is it because of the Wade 3-4 scheme? Who knows, but when you come in and workout and be sure to be out before your teammates arrive it makes people wonder.

With all the Pacman drama and your occasional Romo/Simpson nonsense we certainly don’t need to add in-house problems into the mix. Lets just hope the veterans can get their minds focused on the game.

Exciting Times in Cowboy Land

Thinking back to the past few seasons and comparing them with this season, the thing I’m most excited about as I watch the Dallas Cowboys is THEIR excitement! I cannot tell you how great it is as a fan to watch my Cowboys play with actual smiles on their faces, and not just the players – the coaches too. How great is it to see the Cowboys score a touchdown or make a good play and, as the cameras pan over to Wade Phillips, to see him literally jumping for joy and giving high-fives (sometimes painful ones) to his football team?

Not to take anything away from any of our talented, well-known past coaches, who will remain nameless, (starts with P – ends with arcells) but come ON now? So much of how our guys feel is a direct reflection from the men on the sidelines who hold so much of the power.

I don’t know about you, but I feel good when I’m around people who seem happy and excited and I feel bad when I’m around people who suck the positivity out of the atmosphere. It’s easier for our guys to have fun when the coaching staff shows excitement and gives proper attention to good plays and touchdowns.

It’s so nice to see the Dallas Cowboys winning, but to me it’s even better to see them winning and having fun! They are happy to be on the field and doing what they love, scoring points, and making great plays. Give credit to all the coaches on the sidelines for providing a great atmosphere, and motivating the team so that they can play and perform beyond their expectations.
Personally, I REALLY want our guys to go to the Super Bowl and winning another ring would be fantastic. But honestly, I feel like I can wait for the huge accolades because I’m having so much fun as a fan again. I want this feeling to last forever! Long live the Cowboys and cheers to our Boys having fun on the football field again!
