Feasting On Thanksgiving Day; Cowboys 24 – Raiders 7

Miles AustinFirst of all I want to wish everyone out there a very happy Thanksgiving. Hope everyone had a great day with family and watching some Dallas Cowboys football. Just like Kelly said, thanks to all of our troops out there serving our country, we all thank you very much.

As for the game, the Cowboys got back to the way they should be playing. They had a decent game and pulled out a vicory. Was it an astounding victory, no but they did look so much better this week than they have in the past 2 weeks. One question that has to be addressed. Is Nick Folk a concern? In the past, Especially last year when we played Buffalo, Nick was a sure thing we could count on every time. This year is not the same story, and watching the Texans go down like they did due to Kris Brown missing those field goals twice in 3 weeks, we HAVE to keep an eye on him.

As for the rest of the game Romo was back to his self going 18/29 for 309 yards 2 touchdowns and NO turnovers. Miles Austin once again showed he is the number 1 reciever with 7 receptions for 145 yards and a touchdown. Jason Whitten had his best game of the year with 5 receptions for 105 yards. Roy Williams had another touchdown in his 2 catches totalling 15 yards. Our running backs had a really great day with Barber and Jones having a combined 4 catches for a total of 42 yards.

Our rushing attack was once again proven to be one of the best in the league. Felix Jones carried the ball only 7 times but had 68 yards, including a 46 yard run for a touchdown. Tashard Choice took a wild cat snap and ran it for 66 yards. And our Beast of a running back Marion Barber had 14 carries for 61 yards.

Our defense did not look their best, especially against the run. They allowed a total of 124 yards on 24 carries for the Raiders. Gradkowski went 18/35 but only had 200 yards passing and 1 touchdown but scrambled for 30 yards on the ground. Demarcus Ware was making his presence known all game long, and even though he only had 1 tackle with 1 sack, the Raiders offensive line had to double team him allowing Anthony Spencer to have a good game with 6 tackes 2 assists and 2 sacks.

In total Dallas had a total of 494 yards in the game with 195 of those yards coming on the ground with a total of 25 rushing plays. Penalties once again were a concern but down a bit from recent games with 6 penalties for 48 yards. Better but not good enough. We had a total of 18 first downs to Oaklands only 14 first downs. Time of possession was also in our favor 31:14 to 28:46.

All in all it was a good game on a great day. Once again I would like to say to all the fans out there happy thanksgiving and hope you all had have and continue to have a great holiday season.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING MOM!!!!!

Adams Fined, Barber Fine

For the second week in a row a Cowboy has been fined by the league for a penalty. Turns out that Cowboy is Flozell Adams. Surely you remember the tripping penalty, well Adams was fined $12,500 for sticking his foot out and tripping Justin Tuck in the second quarter, and also Osi Umenyiora in the fourth quarter. Tuck criticized Adams for the move that placed him on the sidelines.

Last week Adams was fined $5,000 for a hands to the face penalty. He plans to appeal the fine.

Hey, we wanted him to stop the false start penalties but not if it means he is going to get even bigger infractions.

Marion BarberMarion Barber practiced on Wednesday after an apparent injury to his quad during last Sunday’s game. Several media outlets believed Barber could miss the game Monday night but according to Barber,

“I’m good . . . I’m good today. If I’m good today, I’ll be good tomorrow and I’ll be good for Monday.”

“Just like a bad cramp. I’ve felt it before. It’s happened to me before. It’s sore. It felt real similar. But I’m treating it like I should. I’m feeling good.”

The Cowboys have an extra day since they are playing Monday and are not required to put out an injury update today. Luckily the Cowboys are deep at the running back position and Barber can share the load with Felix Jones and Tashard Choice.

The Cowboys posted this on their website,

RB Marion Barber – quad (9/20) – After his 35-yard run in the fourth quarter, Barber came up holding his left quad. He never returned to action Sunday night, and MRI results on Monday revealed a strained quad. Barber was dressed out Wednesday and took part in light individual drills during the brief media portion of practice. But because they don’t play until Monday, the Cowboys aren’t required to release an official injury report until Thursday, and head coach Wade Phillips was tight-lipped about Barber’s status. The starting back said he plans to play against Carolina, however. If not, or if he’s limited, Felix Jones and Tashard Choice will fill in.

Weekly Game Balls: Week 2

With the nickname of Earth, Wind, and Fire comes 2 players on this week’s game balls.

This week’s offensive game ball goes to Marion Barber.

With the nickname of Earth, Wind, and Fire comes 2 players on this weeks game balls. The weeks offensive game ball goes out to Marion Barber. He is the “Earth” in the three headed monster of running backs by committee. MB3 ran for 124 yards on 18 carries with 1 touchdown. He definitely earned his name as Barbarian. Marion showed quickness and toughness in him we haven’t seen in a while. He would of had another score if it wasn’t for his quad tightening up. He looked just as good as any running back that played on Sunday. Barber also had 31 yards on 2 catches when Tony was not at his best
This weeks defensive/special teams game ball goes to Felix Jones. The wind of the group. Even though Felix had a fumble that the Giants capitalized on. He had 134 yards on 6 run backs. His longest run was of 38 yards. Felix showed the speed the cowboys need out of the backfield, and also had 96 yards on 7 carries. If it wasn’t for 4 yards, the Cowboys could have 2 running backs with 100 yards each.Despite the fumble Felix helped the Cowboys almost pull off the win. He scored the go ahead touchdown to put the Cowboys up 31 to30.

Goodbye JuJo, Julius Jones To Seattle

According to several reports Julius Jones has agreed to terms with the Seattle Seahawks. This will end Jones’ 4-year tenure with the Dallas Cowboys.

We all knew that Julius wanted out of Dallas and wanted to be a lone starter after Marion Barber took the running back spotlight in 2007. Jones had a 1,000 in 2006, but after splitting time again with Barber in 2007, he finished with only 164 carries for 588 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Jones’ will probably end Shaun Alexander’s reign in Seattle but may end up sharing carries with T.J. Duckett and Maurice Morris.

Good luck Julius… well, except when we are playing your new team!

Barber and Cowboys to Talk This Week

According to reports at the Star-Telegram, the Cowboys are expect to start talks with Marion Barber and his agent this week at the NFL Combine. Barber is a restricted free agent that had a very impressive season this past year and looks to make a long term deal with the Cowboys.

For those of you who remain interested in Darren McFadden, I don’t think this is going to happen. The Cowboys have $13 million left in their salary cap and have to take care of their free agents and draft picks. McFadden would cost the Cowboys a lot of money that they just don’t have to spend. Stranger things have happened but I don’t see it.

Personally, I think the Cowboys should hold on to Marion Barber and draft another running back. They are going to need a backup. Julius Jones is definitely not sticking around and Tyson Thompson did horrible last year, even thought he didn’t get much of a chance. I’m not sure how many running backs are available in free agency, I doubt very many good ones. They are definitely hard to come by.

Lock up Barber! Do it NOW!
