Dez Bryant Out 4-6 Weeks, May Miss All Pre-Season

Update 7:45 PM

The team announced Friday evening that Dez Bryant will miss four to six weeks. Bryant was injured on the second-to-last play of Friday’s practice in the Alamodome.

An MRI confirmed the team’s fear of a high ankle sprain. Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones had expressed hope that Bryant, who had a spectacular start to training camp, would be out for only a few days or a week, but now they are faced with an injury that could have ripple effects to start the season.

With this injury, the Cowboys’ top three picks are all injured. Second-round linebacker Sean Lee has been sidelined since Tuesday with a strained quadriceps, and fourth-round safety Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, who had shoulder surgery in March, has not been cleared to practice yet.

ESPN Dallas reports:

SAN ANTONIO — Dallas Cowboys rookie wide receiver Dez Bryant, the team’s first-round selection, was helped off the field by two athletic trainers after suffering a right ankle injury near the end of the training practice Friday.

Bryant stayed on the Alamodome turf after cornerback Orlando Scandrick broke up a pass on a crossing route. Jon Kitna’s pass was thrown slightly behind Bryant, and Scandrick appeared to land on the prized rookie’s lower right leg. He was helped off the field, with Bryant keeping weight off it.

Bryant will have an MRI to determine the severity of the injury.

Let’s hope its not as bad as it sounds. All we can do at this point is wait for the MRI results.

Cowboys Reach Deal With Dez Bryant

According to the Associated Press, the Cowboys announced they agreed to terms with first-round pick Dez Bryant on Thursday.

Although financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but a press conference has been scheduled for 6:45 PM CST by Stephen Jones and full details of the deal should be revealed at that time.

Some rumors have suggested an $11.8 million dollar, 5-year deal including an $8.5 million dollar signing bonus.

Bryant, the 24th pick of the draft, is now expected to report on time for Cowboys training camp on Saturday in San Antonio, and any talk of a hold out has now been extinguished.

I know many were getting uptight about his signing, but check this out. Bryant actually becomes the first first-round pick to agree to a contract. Sam Bradford, who was the No. 1 overall pick, has yet to agree to a deal.

The only draft pick unsigned by the Cowboys is second-rounder Sean Lee, a linebacker from Penn State.

Two Sign On The Line – Talks With Dez Begin

The Associated Press is reporting that the Cowboys have signed two of their 2010 draft picks.  OT Sam Young and DE Sean Lissemore both signed four-year contracts.

The team has not yet announced any deals on four other draft picks as of Tuesday: WR Dez Bryant, and LB Sean Lee.

The team has confirmed that negotiations with Bryant, the 24th pick overall, began on Monday.

Training camp starts for the Cowboys this Saturday in San Antonio.

Akwasi Agrees To 4 Year Deal With Cowboys

The Cowboys have agreed to terms with fourth-round pick, safety Akwasi Owusu-Ansah today.

Owusu-Ansah’s agent, Nate Haber reported the news via Twitter:

Congrats to client Akwasi Owusu-Ansah (4th rd pick) and the Dallas Cowboys. We have agreed to terms on a 4-yr deal.

Haber said he expects his client to sign the contract on Thursday and report on time for the start of training camp, which begins on Saturday in San Antonio.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but unconfirmed reports say that he will earn base salaries of $320,000 (2010), $405,000 (2011), $490,000 (2012) and $575,000 (2013).

The Cowboys still have some work to do however as Dez Bryant (first round) Sean Lee (second round), Jamar Wall (sixth round) and Josh Price-Brent (supplemental pick) all have yet to sign.

Young Receivers Showing Something In Camp

Training camp is well underway and there have been a lot great things happening in San Antonio. From what I have been reading one of the biggest surprises in training camp has been the play of our young receivers Sam Hurd, Miles Austin, and the other receivers.

Sam Hurd and Miles Austin have been vying for the third receiver slot. They both have been making some acrobatic catches. This is great news, however this is training camp and we will have to wait to see what happens in a real game.

One low spot was Isaiah Stanback tweaking his hamstring and was out of practice, this is not a good sign for him. He has really been injury plagued since he has been with the Cowboys.

Not sure if Jesse Holley can make the team after winning Michael Irvin’s reality show “4th and Long”, but he has been making some plays as well.

Right now, Patrick Crayton is the second wide receiver behind Roy Williams, but we will have to wait and see if the keeps it.

We all know that the receivers would be a big question mark this year, but lets hope they can make their mark.
