Still No Love For The Cowboys???

As I sit here Friday night watching Sportscenter, NFL Network and Sportsnation I am getting more and more frustrated. For some reason NO ONE is giving the Cowboys any kind of a chance to win this game against the Eagles Saturday night. Have they not seen what the Cowboys have been doing the last few weeks. Have they not seen how the defense has been DOMINATING the line of scrimmage. I am so tired of not getting respect that is deserved.

To me this has got to be the biggest game Dallas has played in the last few years. They need to go out and show the critics, no wait, go out and SHUT THE CRITICS UP!!!!!!!!!!!  I am so sick and tired of no one believing in what the Cowboys are doing right now. They posted BACK TO BACK shut outs for the first time in the history of their existence.

Everyone keeps saying again and again DeSean Jackson is the better receiver and will have a better game. Well not only do I say otherwise but here are a few stats to back me up:

DeSean Jackson has started EVERY game this season for the Eagles and Miles Austin only started after sitting the first 4 games of the season.

Jackson has 63 receptions with 9 touchdowns for a total of 1,167 yards

Austin has 81 receptions with 11 touchdowns for a total of 1,320 yards

Now to me, numbers tell the truth, Miles Austin is a MUCH better reciever than DeSean Jackson. So, let’s go Boys. Lets show everyone out there that this year is not like the past, we mean business and we are making a statement. Bring it home Dallas!

Injury Update: Ware, Hamlin News

After a huge scare last weekend, we could likely see DeMarcus Ware back on the field this Saturday night in New Orleans.

Coach Phillips reported that if the game had been Wednesday, Ware would not have played but it would have been close. He hasn’t lost any strength or motion, it seems to be more of a soreness issue. If by chance Ware does not play, Victor Butler will be his replacement.

Safety Ken Hamlin has missed the last four games with an ankle injury but is now fully recovered and ready to roll. Hamlin is pumped up about the Saints game this weekend and cannot wait to get back into the action.

“I’m a competitor. I want to be out on the field.

“It’s going to be an exciting game. I’m ready to get back and start playing.”

Tight end Martellus Bennett will be out again this week after suffering a concussion two weeks ago. He hasn’t practiced since the injury occurred. Rookie John Phillips will replace Bennett in the lineup.

Safety Pat Watkins is also out with a sprained left PCL. Alan Ball will fill Watkins shoes as backup safety and on special teams. Ball has started the four games that Ken Hamlin has missed.

***

Personally I’m praying for Ware’s recovery, you definitely need your best defensive player in the game when you are going up against one of the best, if not the best, offenses in the league. The Cowboys need this win desperately after losing their division lead and any hopes of a playoff run could be determined this weekend.

Exciting Weekend in Dallas!

I love me some Cowboys…

And I love THE FANS!!

I had a fantastic weekend! I hope you did, too! The big W was my icing for the cake! For me, the weekend started Saturday night. As Ike moved out of the Metroplex, I was on the move trying to find THE FANS! Not just any group of fans but people many of you know that blew in just before Ike did! We got there as fast as we could for a meet and greet. After a while, we made our way to Hurricane Bar! What an awesome place! We had a blast there!

Saturday, we met in Grapevine at a sports bar called Cutie Pies. We stayed ALL DAY! When I left, they were STILL having a good time! We met up again Monday night for the fun at a tailgate. I’ll let the pictures tell the story… There are no words to describe how much fun we had and how many great people we met!

To the fans – YOU GUYS BROUGHT IT!! My ears are STILL ringing and my voice is officially GONE. I may not see it again for two weeks and it was SO WORTH IT. I would do it all again in a split minute… just not today. When you don’t drink all weekend but end it feeling hung over, you know you did it right!!

To Mosh & the CNS Crew – You guys SO TOTALLY rock! I am so glad I got to meet you and if you’re ever back in my neck of the woods, HIT ME UP! I had THE BEST time with you & I’m looking forward to doing it again! Thank you SO MUCH for including me in the fun! I hope Dallas was good to you and you made it home safe! Keep in touch, okay?

To the Cowboys – WAY TO GO!! Your win was the perfect end to my long and exciting weekend!

Enjoy the slide-show everyone! See you next Wednesday!!

Preseason Isn’t About Winning…

Since the Cowboy loss in their first outing against the Chargers on Saturday night, I have received some notes from other fans wondering what happened.  They were disappointed over the final score and are now concerned about the future for the Boys.  Likewise, I have seen many other fans express their disappointment in comments on other websites and articles as well.  And, of course, there are always the Cowboy haters who love gloating any time we lose.

Well, take heart Cowboy fans… Here’s my response to our first loss:  The final score doesn’t matter.  You see, preseason isn’t about winning.  Sure, we always want to win every time we take the field, but in preseason, the final score really isn’t the important thing.

What is the important thing?  It’s seeing who’s going to fit into our team and where they’re going to fit.  Who’s going to move up the roster and who will move down.  Who will stay and who will go home.  What areas need more work and what areas are we satisfied with.  Sure, you always want to win, and I am not suggesting that we weren’t trying.  However, the point of any preseason game is to find out how your second and third team players are doing.  You don’t risk your first team players just for a win that is meaningless in the long term scheme of things.

Our first team looked good in my opinion.  Romo, Witten, Barber, and the rest of the first team got a series, proved they were up to the task by marching down the field and scoring.  Then we took them out to save them and keep them healthy for the regular season.  Same thing with the first team defense:  they proved that they are game ready.  Things look pretty good for the starters and for the Cowboys overall.

Now, when our second and third team players were in there, we had both bright spots and some troubling areas, but this is what preseason is all about.  It’s about getting your team in order.  Don’t push the panic button just yet.  The Boys are fine.  Yes, we have some work to do, but overall, at this point, there is no reason to be anything but confident in the play of the Cowboys during the upcoming season.

So, if you’re a new fan or you’re just not sure what to make of preseason – don’t lose heart.  Just remember, it’s not about the final score.  It’s not about winning – at least not now.   It’s about getting your team in order so you can win later – and hopefully, win the whole shebang.

Superstitious

I think all fans have certain things that they do before a game. One of my friends decorate their living room with Chief memorabilia they have collected over the years. They wear their jerseys, pants and caps. They do that every game.

I did the same thing in the 80’s and 90’s. I was admitted to the hospital a week before the first 90’s Super bowl. When I found out I had to stay there during the Super bowl I was frantic. I had a pair of lucky socks that I had worn all season. I just knew we would lose without the help of my socks. So I ask my husband to please bring them to the hospital and he did so that made me feel better. Later that evening my friends show up with a lot of my memorabilia to decorate my hospital room. It looked great. I had other patients, nurses and doctors come in to see the room. And my lucky socks worked we won. I wore those darn socks every game for the next 5 years until they were completely worn out but I couldn’t throw them away so I hid them in the back of my sock drawer.

So Saturday night before the Giants game I was looking for something and ala there were my lucky socks, full of holes but, wearable.  So I figure a little more luck can’t hurt right so I put them on, walk into the living room and my husband responds, "OMG! I can’t believe you are going to wear those!" laughing. I know it had to look a little silly but, we needed the luck I thought. In the first half I told everybody see they are working! At the end of the game I jerked the damn things off and I think somehow over the years the luck vanished.

What I want to know is if I am the only fan that has something they consider to be lucky for game day. Do you do the same thing every game? Come on I admitted it so you can too!

Where Have All the Cowboys Gone

It’s funny how people get so offended and hurt when the team loses (understandably, I’m one of the guilty). It’s a preseason game, not a playoff game. The good thing is we can learn from the experience and it isn’t going to hurt us one bit. Of course it’s nice to win every game no matter the caliber, but sometimes it helps not to go into the season with a "big head" or overblown confidence when you start playing teams like New England and Chicago just to name a few.

I do believe that Gramatica has lost his job as starting kicker, especially if the rumors are true that he pulled a hamstring Saturday night. Missing an extra-point kick is really not the way you impress your coach when you’re battling for the starting position. Of all teams, we certainly know how much a missed kick can hurt!

If you’re wondering when to expect Greg Ellis back on the field, good luck finding the answer. No one knows or can even speculate when to expect the veteran linebacker’s return. Jerry Jones is determined that Ellis will be back, at least that’s what he is saying in front of the cameras. I’ve heard a third medical opinion is being sought. Expect to see rookie Anthony Spencer on the field in his place when the season kicks off.

Several other injured Cowboys missed the game on Saturday. Anthony Fasano, Terence Newman and Terry Glenn did not participate but are all expected to start in the season opener. Terence Newman will likely feel pain throughout the season after being diagnosed with a torn plantar fascia in his right heel. Anthony Fasano is sitting out after receiving a sprained shoulder in the second preseason game. And last but certainly not least, Terry Glenn is still recovering after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery during Training Camp.

As the Cowboys prepare to travel to Minnesota for the final preseason game, we should keep a close watch on the roster. Several players will be cut tomorrow, bringing the roster number down to 75. I don’t think we will see much from the first string on Thursday because September 1st the team will be trimmed down to the standard 53-man roster. It’s always interesting and certainly unpredictable to see who will go and who will stay.
