Weekly Game Balls: Week 3

This week’s offensive game ball goes to Tashard Choice.

The quickness and toughness he showed against the Panthers defense made him an easy “Choice”. On any other team Choice would easily be an every down back. The Cowboy’s depth in the backfield was on full display Monday night.

It’s really fun to watch his signature “T.C.” every time he scores a touchdown.

Choice had 82 yards on 18 carries with one touchdown, he also had a 2 point conversion. He also hauled in a remarkable 8 catches for another 36 yards.

Although the injuries to Marion and Felix sadden me, we don’t miss a beat when Tashard Choice is on the field, and that truly shows the remarkable depth we have at running back.

This week’s defensive/special teams game ball goes to Terence Newman.

T-New sealed the game for us with his interception returned 27 yards for a touchdown. Terence finished the night with only 3 tackles but he did cause a fumble. This one was close with Victor Butler who also forced a fumble and recorded two sacks.

Despite missing several tackles in a shaky first half, Newman bounced back and kept the Panthers’ top receiver Steve Smith in check.

“Before the game we talked about how our defensive line and linebackers did their job last week and how we didn’t do our job,” Newman said. “So I told them ‘Hey it’s on us. We’ve got to shut these guys down.’ We let this team down last week and we have to make up for it this week.”

Congratulations to Tashard and Terence for their outstanding play.

Cowboys Tough Start to Season, Early Analysis

martellus1

The NFL schedule has been released and it makes for some good day dreaming and predictions for all……I had to join in the fun and share with all of you all.

In my early opinion, it is a tough schedule. There are 3 occasions where we have back-to-back road games, we have an early bye week, and travel to New York in December, that ugly stadium is never a good place to be at any time of the year, but especially in the dead of winter.

I also noticed that we play two teams that I think are going to make a step up this year in Seattle and Kansas City. I will hold out on my overall season prediction, because it can be so subjective and things can change so rapidly in the NFL,  but here is my take on the first “quarter” of the season:

WEEK 1 – @ Tampa Bay - The Boys start the season on the road for the second straight year. This should be like last year’s opener, a convincing win. The Buccaneers are in rebuilding mode, Dallas should be ready to get things started on the right foot. A slow start with a big second half should end in a 31-13 victory. RECORD: 1-0 (0-0)

WEEK 2 – vs NY Giants - The NFL did us no favors with the G-Men opening up the new stadium in Arlington. A tough matchup every time, the Giants will be fired up to ruin our party on national TV.  In a playoff atmosphere, The Boys will be hoping to show an improved run defense and it will be imperative in this game. This is truly a toss-up, but you have to believe we will pull off a thrilling win in the opening game in our new house, 27-24. RECORD: 2-0 (1-0)

WEEK 3 – vs Carolina – A tough follow-up to the emotional home opener, on Monday Night Football to boot. The Panthers will be attacking the Boys new-look secondary with Delhomme and Steve Smith, and it could make for a long night. Romo shines on the big stage but it won’t be enough as the Cowboys take their first loss of the season, and in the new house, and over-reaction ensues as it becomes official that we won’t go undefeated due to a 31-27 loss. RECORD: 2-1 (1-0)

WEEK 4 – @ Denver - We travel to the Mile High city fresh off the first defeat and face a Broncos team minus their pro-bowl QB and long time head coach, I anticipate they will be starting to find their footing by week 4 and it makes for a tough game, on the road. We look sluggish in the first hald but then turn loose the rushing attack to grind out a nail biting victory and the Cowboys nation rejoices in a 3-1 start thanks to a 17-10 win. RECORD: 3-1 (1-0)

WEEK 5 – @ Kansas City………………….

I am just very glad to see the dates and times that we will all be gathered around our TV’s or local sports bars or maybe even the beautiful new stadium for the lucky few, all living and dying with every play. All I know is that it is 148 days until we take the field in Tampa Bay for Game 1. It will be another great season of Cowboys Football and make sure you check in here at Lonestarstruck.com for all the best information and hottest graphics all season long!!

Away

New York Giants-L

Philadelphia Eagles-W

Washington Redskins-W

New Orleans Saints-W

Tampa Bay Buccaners-W

Green Bay Packers-L

Denver Broncos-W

Kansas City Chiefs-W

My predicted record: 11-5.

I see us sweeping Philly because our rivalry with them hit a new high at the end of last season. Well for the 5 losses I predict let me explain those to you. Washington will beat us at home because they are our toughest divison opponents ever no matter what the records of either are or what players are on the teams and I just see that being our first loss at our new stadium.

Carolina I dont think that we will be able to contain Steve Smith and DeAngelo Williams because Carolina mixes the pass and run so fluidly in my opinion.

San Diego only one name needs to be said Darren Sproiles, I believe he is just to quick and elusive and will tear us apart because he is not some over-hyped running back like we usually face and stop.

New York Giants just dont think we can sweep them this year cant really explain why though but I do know that Chris Canty is one reason.

Green Bay they just always pose a threat and it is one of our greatest non-divisonal rivals and we’ve beat them the past two years and I just feel that they will have our number this year.

Well thats how I feel about 2009. Let me know how you feel about my opinion and what your opinion is by commenting. I look foward to seeing what you guys think.

New York Giant Receivers = Gun Magnets?

Once again I had to  travel no further than the NFL website for my article. So let me shoot straight here i think that the Giants receivers are gun magnets. 1. Steve Smith robbed at gun point, 2. Plaxico Burress shot himself, and now the most recent Taye Biddle(read article).

New York Giants receiver Taye Biddle is recovering from gunshot wounds to his hand and leg after being shot while visiting family in his hometown.

Decatur police said in a statement Thursday that Biddle was shot outside a residence and was treated and released from a hospital. Police said there was no evidence Biddle caused or provoked the shooting.

“He had surgery on his hand today,” Biddle’s friend, Bruce Jones, told The Decatur Daily Thursday. “He told me his leg is OK, and he ought to be fine.”

The 25-year-old Biddle grew up in Decatur and played college football at the University of Mississippi.

Police have not made any arrests in the case.

Biddle was promoted from the Giants’ practice squad after receiver Plaxico Burress was suspended for a game in September.

After this I cant help but wonder why are all their receivers dealing with guns going against them here lately. My hopes and prayers go out to Taye Biddle for a speedy recovery even though I hate the Giants with all my heart. I also pray that all this non-sense with guns should end sometime soon how many people are going to have to get hurt and killed for this to sink in to people. The NFL has already lost one great player in Sean Taylor due to some stupid people with a gun breaking into house. So with that I will end this entry with my prayers going out to every NFL player along with every person in  the world and to our new President Barrack Obama and may he be safe throughout his term and for the rest of his life.
